  1. phil's gawky boy scoutness shining through early on
  2. ted speaking highly of Phil's leadership ability, decision making prowess and wealth of experience
  3. press conference about to begin, many fat men milling about in front of podium at the moment
  4. I don't see how they can get one of their GM candidates that got eliminated in the 1st round of interviews to make a lateral move from the Giants to Bears.
  5. I remain highly skeptical of the intense boy scout story all of the writers are praising today, but I do find the Ruskell firing interesting. Given their history, I would have thought at the bare minimum he'd let him work out the rest of the contract. Emery strikes me as the type of guy many of his peers might be annoyed at behind his back. I wonder how many will want to come work for him. He's got two directors to hire and I assume he does it soon.
  6. I really like Kane and have no interest in pushing him out the door, but if his marketability increases his trade value it is absolutely a move I'd be interested in. The Blackhawks will take a hit if he leaves, but it doesn't have to be fatal. He's not the best player on the team, at best he's 3rd. And kids/ladies probably love him. But winning is what is bringing the fans back out to the arena. If they can make a smart hockey move that allows them to keep winning without Kane, the team won't miss him from a business standpoint. But I don't think it can be something that drags on. You need to pull the trigger on a move or don't even talk about it.
  7. Yeah, it's not glorious, but fabulous is the word everybody is searching for.
  8. i just don't think johnson is much better, if at all. He's nothing special but he's better than Knox.
  9. They've got a long way to go before you can have a lot of faith in their rankings. Football just doesn't lend itself to that sort of analysis nearly as easily as baseball does.
  10. The Cleveland Browns have hired former Vikings head coach Brad Childress as their offensive coordinator, a league source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen on Friday.
  11. Johnny just isn't a receiver, he's a runner who needs a great QB to make him look decent.
  12. Forget the people, what were the rest of the words in those sentences? The Chicago Bears (probably won't have a chance to sign) Steve Johnson. he's not really the big receiver that we need. he's more of a johnny knox-type. He's as close to being a "big receiver" as he is to being a Knox type. At least he's a real receiver and not just a guy who goes out for passes.
  13. Forget the people, what were the rest of the words in those sentences? The Chicago Bears (probably won't have a chance to sign) Steve Johnson.
  14. But who really cares about hiding that? It's already out there in the public domain, he's already going to get heckled.
  15. All joking aside, Jay still has some developing to do and needs a capable advocate on the sideline.
  16. Other than create slight nausea, no.
  17. You mean stickball? You can't find a NYer over 60 who doesn't wax poetically about playing stickball.
  18. I'm not talking about losing out on him, offering passing game coordinator when others offer OC/asst HC means you are going to lose. I just think it's crazy he was the one they offered the job to.
  19. I don't care about changing your opinion, I just think it's asinine to whine about "silly back and forth" on a freaking message board which exist solely because of silly back and forth.
  20. Probably soccer as well. Football depending on position. A QB isn't going to step into the game late. A defensive lineman or wide receiver may be able to. Although, there probably aren't any high level hockey players that got into it late either.
  21. I really don't understand this. Off the radio. I guess you'd have to read the post in context to understand it. A) Radio doesn't provide much in the terms of breaking news. B) If you give a crap about it it is extremely easy to listen to radio in other cities. C) If any Chicago area radio station breaks anything remotely interesting it will be everywhere else momentarily.
  22. Not to mention, that if something is going to happen, reading through this thread is not a particularly good place to find out about it.
  23. Sandberg was 23 and played in a league whose average hitter had a line of: .255 .322 .376 Barney was 25 and played in a league whose average hitter had a line of: .253 .319 .391 Of course, Sandberg shredded AA as a 20 year old while Barney didn't hit AA until 23. Sandberg had more than twice as many homeruns (24/11) in 9% more PA (1871/1711).
