  1. Dempster's had 4-5 pitches called balls where pitch f/x disagreed. The system they are showing on the TV appears to be agreeing with the ump.
  2. Every strike is technically hittable, but they aren't all smart to swing at.
  3. Can't really complain about patience when he does that. Yes you can, patience isn't just about taking balls. It's about running up the opposing pitchers' pitch count. Getting yourself out in a hurry against a guy who had TJS not too long ago and is probably going to be monitored for workloads just isn't a great idea. Patience is also about hitting the hittable pitches, and the Cubs did that. It makes no sense to watch a hittable fastball go by for a strike just in the name of taking pitches. When you get sawed off you aren't swinging at hittable pitches. Barney and Castro both got sawed off.
  4. Taking away Soriano, the three other Cubs hitters have hit the ball a combined 13 feet.

  6. wow, was that 5 pitches? Hahaha, first hit of the season is an IF pop that didn't make it to the pitchers mound.
  7. I know this probably reflects my ignorance about these guys but looking at the Nationals roster it doesn't matchup with the hype they've been getting in preseason. The OF looks pathetic.
  8. I thought that for a second then realized the only reason to do so is if you over romanticize opening day and/or baseball in general. It's just a game and he's an entertainer having fun.
  9. bill murray ruined the chalk lines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. or just look up one thread
  11. I think Dempster, but maybe they were just happy that it was over. I was happy that I didn't hear boos raining down on Soriano. They're going to give him at least 1 inning this year, which is awful sporting of them. So was I, which made me wonder if I just wasn't getting good audio or not.
  12. think it's going to be quite awhile before sammy is in good graces again. True, but I don't think a "silent" retirement would be too much to ask for. At the very least hold it back for someone with some clout in the game instead of handing it to the guy who just showed up yesterday. Not sure what such an empty gesture is supposed to accomplish.
  13. Campana was on there before but now he is gone and replaced by DeWitt.
  14. I think Dempster, but maybe they were just happy that it was over.
  15. I don't know if it was just my audio, but I don't think anybody got a particularly warm welcome by the fans.
  16. Not sure what you mean by this but Dempster wasn't too amped on opening day last year. He didn't walk anybody until the 5th. He cruised through 4 but struggled in the 5th and 6th and never should have come out for the 7th.
  17. Hey, Maholm made the big board by the marquee. why?

  19. John Gaub has been lost on waivers to Tampa. Mateo on 60-day DL.
