  1. Joe's money is still the primary money behind the Cubs. He is not involved with the team, but the kids had to get his blessing to make this purchase for the family. It has been completely overblown by the media and the politicians are seizing the opportunity to scold a 1%er, but that's all to be expected.
  2. I would think they would bring up a reliever who is ready to pitch ASAP to take his place, and wait to bring Travis up the day he is ready to pitch, 4 days from now.
  3. You have to realize that's kind of absurd, right? There's not going to be boycotts of Cubs games because the chairman's dad wants a republican in office.
  4. I randomly saw some dude in a Wood Cubs jersey this morning in Rockefeller Center. Wonder if he knew...
  5. so lots of great seats available still?
  6. He's not asking for government money.
  7. they shouldn't trade him at all if they aren't getting a really good prospect or three
  8. The line's weakness is made up primarily of its inability to protect the QB, more than it's inability to run block. Forte hasn't exactly been Barry Sanders making holes where they are not.
  9. the moderators didn't start the thread.
  10. I'm not sure why anybody should assume from what Rahm has said that a deal is dead.
  11. the Cubs won't make any more, but the White Sox probably make more by having people actually show up
  12. what the hell is going on here? why is "the fallout" some 2 year old article? david haugh is tweating some response that Tom supposedly just made
  13. Haha, that's like a who's who of bum pitchers. I see a bunch of guys who put together nice little (or not so little) careers pitching, and Sergio Mitre.
  14. You're still wrong. You can't put the focus on the future forever. Theo isn't going to be all in for the future like he is right now in a couple years. You have to try to win now eventually. This is nothing new. The Cubs have done this on numerous occasions in the past and for prolonged periods of time.
  15. Or maybe they only have one good reliever. Plenty of really bad pitchers have fairly decent results for a month or so at a time.
  16. Well, WGN is about as dull and unremarkable as you can get in the entertainment world so it would make sense that their broadcast has those qualities.
  17. Judd is really bad at the job.
  18. Houston Astros Mark Appel, RHP, Stanford The Astros' decision is still apparently up in the air, but the general feeling is that they'll take the college arm over the higher-upside, higher-risk outfielder, Byron Buxton … or that they'll take the best player who'll cut a deal below the $7.2 million slot figure and transfer the money to later picks. Minnesota Twins Byron Buxton, OF, Appling County H.S. (Baxley, Ga.) They were presumed to be on San Francisco right-hander Kyle Zimmer until the past few weeks, when Zimmer's velocity slipped and he missed a start with a hamstring injury. Appel seems to be the other option here, or perhaps prep right-hander Lucas Giolito now that teams are getting more and more comfortable with reports on his elbow injury, which caused him to miss most of the year. Seattle Mariners Lucas Giolito, RHP, Harvard-Westlake H.S. (Studio City, Calif.) They were supposedly on Florida catcher Mike Zunino, but now the word is they want pitching and are on Giolito, Max Fried (Giolito's high school teammate) and Oklahoma State southpaw Andrew Heaney. But I'm also hearing Puerto Rican prep shortstop Carlos Correa is a possibility. It's worth noting that their first-round pick last year, Danny Hultzen, stunned almost everyone, so if we think the Mariners are on someone, they probably are not. Baltimore Orioles Kevin Gausman, RHP, LSU Baltimore is looking for the best player available; that could be Gausman, who I currently have ranked as the top pitcher in the draft, or Correa or any of the players named above, although the Orioles are not really linked to Giolito. Kansas City Royals Mike Zunino, C, Florida I've heard them on Gausman, and every college arm, and of course, they'd look at Buxton if he fell. They've also been camped out on hard-throwing prep right-hander Lance McCullers Jr. for his past few outings, when he has been peaking at just the right time. Chicago Cubs Albert Almora, CF, Mater Academy Charter (Hialeh Gardens, Fla.) The Cubs also have their eyes California prep lefty Fried and Puerto Rico's Correa. Almora, who has an advanced feel for hitting and good range in center, is the likely favorite here.
  19. if not, then close to it. He had a 916 OPS against in save situations last year over 119 PA, 881 when the Cubs were ahead compared to 422 when they were behind. He's got a 1250 OPS against in save situations this year, 950 in late/close. He's just been worthless.
  20. That's the problem with today's long term contracts. Back in the 80's, the shorter term contracts were motivation for these guys to play well and earn their next fix. How else do you explain Eric Davis' improbable comeback in his mid 30's? Ryne Sandberg signed one of those shorter term contracts and he just up and quit.
  21. How do you find yourself listening to the Sox radio broadcast if you aren't a Sox fan?
  22. It's a decent enough gamble but there isn't high reward with a guy who is a halfway decent setup man when he's at his best.
  23. Am I missing something here or this headline trying too hard?
