  1. why are douchebags with a goat at Wrigley Field? Aside from the fact that they are obviously douchebags.
  2. Is Dale passive aggressively pointing the finger at his bosses with some of this stuff? He talks up the Rizzo promotion idea, starts batting Mather third and keeps running through closing options, all because he really has no other options. He's got to be frustrated with how this season is playing out. If they do end up with a historically bad record, very few managers survive those types of seasons. It would be completely unfair for him to lose his job over this, but even if he feels he's got full support of management, he can't be comfortable dealing with the constant "what was the reason for today's loss" type of questioning.
  3. In what way is this getting ridiculous? I doubt anybody thought he would have his contract by now, so the fact that he doesn't have his contract by now is largely meaningless. If he isn't in camp a week or so before the season starts, then it's getting ridiculous.
  4. I'm worried his results will never look as good as he pitches because of how poorly he fields and handles the bat. A trade would be ideal unless a modest extension is possible.
  5. It's not awful, but it's a low peak.
  6. He's got that as Rizzo in his prime? How incredibly disappointing that would be. I could see him being that type of player over time, but I would have to think in his prime he's got more than an 840 OPS in him.
  7. Wouldn't that 08 season be more like having a whole bunch of great sex with the hot foreign exchange student all summer long and then the day before school starts up you get a little too drunk, have trouble performing and find out she transfered to another school the next day? Or actually, you show up to school and find out she was seeing somebody else and she takes a week to decide to be his homecoming date instead of yours.
  8. But did Favre? Favre was a redneck who had never seen media in his life. Wasn't as highly drafted as Cutler, was traded from Atlanta when nobody really knew who he was. I guess I don't see what Cutler has ever done to not be media friendly. He answers questions when asked, maybe not the way people want him to. He isn't downright rude to the media. He doesn't come off as cocky when he speaks. Favre played the media like a fiddle. His aw-shucks "I'm just a kid having fun out there" persona was well crafted. Peter King's blatant Favre worship is obviously based completely off Favre hooking him up with quotes and backstory whenever he wanted. Cutler doesn't provide quotes and he's loathe to talk about himself (which conflicts with marrying a reality TV personality). Every media person that talks about it says Cutler is rude and comes off as cocky when interviewed.
  9. He's never even flirted with the notion of being media friendly, so he'll never get their love. But it's not just media, or at least the portion of the media that would care (beat writers, local columnists, national guys like King, etc), but the ex-players who now work in media.
  10. Nobody DID like Cutler. But I've heard a lot of the talking heads taking heed that the Bears were legitimate contenders when Cutler got hurt. They had just beaten Philly who was hot. They destroyed the Lions who were media darlings at that point. They beat the Chargers. Dilfer has come out this year (after being very negative last year) saying Cutler can take this team to a Superbowl this year. When Cutler singlehandedly kept the Bears in the MNF game in Detroit with no OL and WRs dropping passes, people started to take heed. As bad as the Bears went downhill last year after he got hurt, while still maintaining a decent enough running game with Barber and Bell, people started to realize how really good Cutler was. Some have a begrudging respect for his ability, but they all hate him, and the next bad game he has they will pounce. They will all rank him below all other similar QBs.
  11. No, not a lot of 2012 hate. But in general people hate Cutler. They will make any excuse to rank any other QB possible above him. And they didn't like the draft. But they did like the Marshall trade and do give the Bears chances to win the division this year.
  12. The fatal bullet may have been fired by Knox but the perception is that the line had him so beat up the injury was just waiting to happen. And that it is bound to happen again.
  13. Everybody hates Cutler, and nobody liked the Bears draft. The perception is the line got Cutler killed (even if that wasn't the direct cause of that injury) and they didn't do a damn thing to improve it.
  14. http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2012/05/25/listen-tom-ricketts-on-the-mully-and-hanley-show/ Haugh tweeted a link to a radio interview with Ricketts, they talk about stadium stuff
  15. It's Memorial Day weekend, and I do not remember when I last saw the Cubs win a game. edit: win, lose or draw..... David will be up to bat for Saturday's game.
  16. so I guess that light bulb turned back off for a lot of people
  17. It was pretty much a useless exercise because all they did was slightly tweak any current power rankings, which doesn't hold up in the NFL. Their commentary on Brady glossed over the fact that he will be 38 in that season. I think half their top ten could be bottom dwellers by the time 2015 roles around. The Eagles are a really odd one. Vick will be in his mid-30's, and he's not going to that long. They will have huge QB questions by then. Plus, after a fantastic 5 year run in the early 2000's, Philly has been fairly inconsistent the past 7 years. Reid will eventually be gone. Anyway, this was a worthless exercise in ESPNness.
  18. But this whole thing has been about you being pissed off that Barney has been somehow slighted while DeJesus and Stewart somehow are better candidates for slighting.
  19. Looks like that bet is -135, as opposed to +105 to bet the under. Detroit's 9.5 total is flipped.
  20. It would be, but getting Hamels is a huge longshot.
  21. Nice job throwing in "for a while" for no good reason. They had him go back to starting for 4 months before he ever got to the point where he was regularly throwing 6+ innings. He had 24 starts for an average less than 4 1/3 in 2009, then just 9 starts for 6 innings each before abandoning the development ship and making him a reliever for four months. He wasn't some september call-up who threw in the bullpen for a little while to get his feet wet. He was the GD set-up man pitching every other day for the majority of the season. It was a complete setback from the development path he was on. If they wanted him to be a major league reliever, it wasn't reckless, but if there was any thought of him starting every day in the majors in 2011 it was completely reckless and foolish.
  22. I've been under the assumption from day 1 that he was destined to be a reliever. But if I was going to try and make him a starter I would have tried to make him a starter and not turn him back into a reliever, then quickly change back to starting. What they did was reckless. Basically, start the way they did and then stick with that program for a couple more years until he's actually making 6+ inning starts every 5 days for prolonged stretches of time.
  23. I agree. Like many things Cubs they had one idea what they wanted to do and changed on the fly. My point on Cashner is that by the time he was slated to start in 2011, his conversion/treatment was screwed up. They almost had to go back to the drawing board on him. It wasn't like the Samardzija situation. Jeff had a lot more work under his belt before this season started.
