  1. Week 8, 9, 10 could be a disaster. Sunday night on the west coast, Sunday in New Orleans and following Thursday at home. two games as likely road dogs then come home against inferior opponent on short rest. Carolina will have had their bye then back to back games against bad teams home vs Houston and Indy. Bears follow that up with two road divisional games against likely better teams. that 5 game stretch before the bye could make or break the season
  2. Because he’s under 18 and it’s required the full mask is required. The fishbowl is preference. Lots of kids wear them. They are odd though. You hear differently.
  3. Scott Powers from the athletic wrote a "what's next" article for the athletic. He talks about planning for the future when the multiple rookies that will play this year will need new contracts by 2026. To that end he mentions overpaying for a free agent on a short-term deal, as well as taking bad contracts from other teams (plus the draft picks for the effort). The one player he mentioned was Tyler Bertuzzi, who was traded from Detroit to Boston for a 1st and a 4th. Another article suggests 6/36 is what Bertuzzi wants. Would he take 3/24? Would the Hawks really want to overpay in that fashion? He'd be a free agent again at 31. He's had injuries but a career spent in Detroit and then Chicago with an unceremoniously early exit with Boston means he won't have a lot of playoff miles on his legs by then. Of course, he was the most famous vaccine refuser.
  4. To clarify, at all is correct.
  5. The early season excitement is gone. The Cubs are losing to bad teams now and a couple games under .500. When will the badness end? Will it end?
  6. Do they have trouble selling out games without road fans showing up?
  7. The thread is about the Blackhawks off-season, technically
  8. I think you can go under 10 and justify the term. we’re not talking human life span generations. Sports generations come and go in 5-8 years. There is a kid playing peewee (12U) somewhere today who will probably surpass Bedard’s reputation by the time they are draft eligible. 5 years is a long ass time in hockey, just look at the 2019/20 Blackhawks who thought they were the contenders they were 5 years before.
  9. They have three young D men that should all be in NHL next year, including their current top prospect. They have Reichel who might be top 6. Then Nazar who could join the team after college season. it’s not really depth they need, it’s top 6 forwards. They don’t even have a guy on the roster that would justifiable be paired with Reichel and Bedard. thry need impact. Signing free agents and trading for real nhl players has to be an option. Moving quantity of picks for quality has to be an option. they have 4 2nd round picks this season. 8 2nd round picks over the next 3 drafts. That’s 8 shots at guys who could be mid roster players by 2026/27 and beyond, but I have to assume some of them will be dealt. If they take 6 guys in the first two rounds this draft that’s 6 guys who could be getting paid in 4-6 years all at once. The list of their top prospects is littered with comments like “could be in the nhl in 2024/25.”
  10. They still have plenty of picks over the next three years. Multiple in each of the top rounds. If you can add another top half pick this year by trading your other 1st and a 2nd or two, you could be getting another top 6 forward that will be ready by 2024. what if the Russian falls to 5 and Montreal doesn’t want to take the risk?
  11. Kane had major detractors at the beginning because at the time smaller, quicker stick handling wunderkinds had yet to begin dominating the NHL. Kane was also smaller than Bedard is now. Two decades of that type of player finding great success in the league and there’s fewer doubts. Bedard is probably better than Kane was at the time of their respective drafts, but that type of player is now more respected largely due to Kane’s career.
  12. They still have Mrazec in net and zeitsev on D, two contracts that will Come off the books before they need to pay any kids. I would expect them to go out and sign a top 4 D and/or top 6 F. Their current forwards cost less than $13 m combined. If they can convince a youngish star to be a part of the next wave, they should do it.
  13. They have two firsts and four seconds. Plus two firsts and two seconds each of 2024 and 2025. Maybe they’ll trade away a couple 2nds for actual nhl players to round out this roster. I doubt there’s any motivation to get hyper aggressive this offseason, but they have space and should use it. if they are any good at drafting the pipeline should stay full for the foreseeable future. maybe they can give away a first to get rid of Seth Jones
  14. Yeah, that was bizarre as hell. The actual selection has already taken place so people knew.
  15. The athletic had a good article explaining the process for the lottery, it was pretty informative. https://theathletic.com/4453404/2023/05/05/nhl-draft-lottery-format-rules-odds/?source=user_shared_article
  16. Because if any of teams that are ineligible to move up to 1 actually win it then Anaheim still automatically gets 1.
  17. https://theathletic.com/4495439/2023/05/07/2023-nhl-draft-lottery-blackhawks/?source=user_shared_article lottery is tonight
  18. The bears have a big European following and would eat up a lot of ticket sales in Germany. Maybe chiefs want to be focus of that game?
