[expletive] Garza is a given. He's damaged goods. He took a step back this year and is hurt. Maybe if he was anything close to what he was last year a team would take a chance, but I'd hate my team for giving up value for him in his situation at the moment. -
I'm not watching it daily, but whenever I do take a look, it's alarming as hell. He's around a 34% k rate and his overall numbers are no longer impressive enough to try and ignore it. He's in the low 800s for OPS.

I just read that too. I wonder what prompted this. Was there a lot of reporting out of shape in previous years? Biggs noted there was a longer layoff between the offseason program and start of training camp this year, so it may just be a way to see who kept in shape during that time.

Looks like Brett just decided to read way too much into Dempster's words. He paid lip service to helping the organization get better but made it clear he could and may have to turn down a deal.

Apparently the Bears are using a conditioning test at the beginning of training camp for the first time since Lovie has been here. I seem to remember them all making a big deal about conditioning when Lovie first came in and that they insisted on guys passing tests, including the coaching staff. But was that just a weigh-in and not an actual conditioning test?

This didn't get the attention it should have. Colletti is either playing russian roulette with his rotation or he has a deal in place for a SP(which may or may not be Dempster). I still don't get the 24 hour thing. If Dempster wanted to approve a deal to LA, and a deal was agreed to yesterday, I don't see why it would take until said moratorium passed to get out, anyway. I think he gets 24 hours, but he doesn't necessarily have to take all 24 hours to tell the team he accepts. It just wouldn't be official until 24 hours, but by then the story would be out and everybody would know.

his age is meaningless when you are talking about trading a 2-3 month rental player. But if his trade value isn't high enough to get you something good this year, then it's virtually impossible to have his value go down next year. His value is not only determined by his current performance (now or next year) but by who you can get to big highest. If he's only willing to go to one place, and you can only get one bidder, you aren't getting any value in either year. The point is, if they don't offer something significant, don't do a trade. Bring him back. If you aren't willing to bring him back you have no leg to stand on in negotiations.

This is his #1 destination. We should probably kill him just to be sure. You hold on to Dempster because a draft pick or Dempster at 12.5M is a better deal we'd get in return for him. Dempster at 12.5M next year has to be the worst case scenario. The team probably isn't going to be very good and he won't have as much value in a trade next summer. It'd just be a big, fat waste of an asset. Why would he not have as much trade value? If his trade value this year isn't enough to get you anything worthwhile, it shouldn't be any worse then that next year. Plus, it shouldn't be too hard to make this team at least a potential candidate for the 2nd wild card next year, if they keep some solid pitchers like Dempster.

Yeah, I still believe this will happen. And TT's hypothetical would be amazing (Garza goes to Dodgers in the meantime) as long as it wasn't underhanded. It would be better if it was underhanded.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Ok, why would the Cubs pay for a 36yo pitcher when they're rebuilding? It just doesn't seem to be a match with the way that Theo and Jed are going about all this. A) They have the money. B) They have a desperate need to fill 5 spots and barely any pitchers to fill them.

Really? He's obviously angry? I don't think it is so obvious that Ryan Dempster is angry. Ok, the overwhelming sentiment on here is that he is angry. I was just stating that if that was case, I could understand him being upset. I don't like it any more than you do, but as someone who has worked for a person that had a "loose ethical interpretation" I know that the organization reflects on the individual just as much as the individual reflects on the organization and if you are uncomfortable with that relationship the choice may not be easy. Somebody leaking a trade is not all that unethical. It reflects nothing.
