  1. Yeah, it’s gotta be pretty much done. I think it’ll be interesting to see how Davidson transitions from acquiring draft picks, which he’s been pretty good at, to acquiring actual players in the future. Everybody expects this team to finish at the bottom next season, but by 24/25 you have to be showing some improvement, even if you aren’t a real competitive threat. it seems to me that Davidson played a little fast and loose with his 4 2nd round picks. He probably reached for that one goalie and traded one for a 2nd next year that could easily be further back in the draft. That’s not maximizing the value. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing. They are set up with a bunch of picks the next three drafts, they can afford to reach and take big swings. But you really have to hit on quite a few of these guys to make this work.
  2. The Blackhawks reportedly signed Corey Perry to a 1/$4m contract. He’s coming off three straight years making $1m or less. What was the point of trading a pick for his rights if all you were going to do was grossly overpay him? the cap floor was never a real issue. these silly contracts took care of it
  3. So far: 1: forward 1: forward 2: goalie 2: forward 2: traded 2: forward 3: forward 3: forward 4: forward
  4. Veteran leader with some size, to protect all the speedy midgets they’ve drafted. He’s barely a blip on the cap.
  5. They’ve placed Bailey on waivers for the purposes of buying him out, they already have enough bottom 6 forwards.
  6. Hawks 3rd rounder was mocked by the athletic 20 picks earlier in the 2nd, with this note: Lardis exploded after a mid-season trade from Peterborough to Hamilton, and his speed-shot combo is too much for the Predators to pass up. If they take a defenceman with one of these two, I wonder if they’d look at Caden Price, his summer birthday, and his vision, and see the appeal. The Preds also took two Finns high last year and have recently graduated Juuso Parssinen, so I could see them taking Finnish U18 captain Kasper Halttunen here.
  7. Martin Misiak is the first skater with size they’ve taken, 6’2” 200.
  8. They got the Kings 2024 2nd rounder from Philly, banking on LA sucking next season?
  9. They took an undersized Russian winger who dominated juniors but is old for the level. This seems like a swing/reach for some potential significant upside or a guy that never plays in the nhl. Now they trade pick 51 to flyers
  10. Hawks jump on the first goalie, Gajan, who moved up boards and was mocked to them with one of the other 2nd rounders.
  11. Blackhawks announce they traded future considerations for Josh Bailey and a 2026 2nd rounder from the Islanders. They take a $5m expiring contract that was a healthy scratch for second half of last season. A 2nd rounder in 2026 is noteable because they should be in the position to trade for other teams assets by then. They have 2 1s and 2 2s in each of 24/25 drafts.
  12. Fantilli already played a year of college. He probably isnt going back.
  13. 5th overall pick. The guy taken before him, Luke Hughes, played two college seasons before turning pro this spring. The Devils were stacked with young talent, so situations aren’t the same. But it’s more reason to think Oliver will not be in Chicago before 2025.
  14. Top half of first, maybe one. Back half, one or two. I would assume two for Moore, especially with the need/desire to spread out contracts for this new generation of young guys. Bedard will need a new big contract in 2026, and so will other guys. Reichel was the 17th pick, stayed in Germany for a year then signed a year later. But he spent nearly all that next season in minor, and most of the following in minor before establishing himself in the nhl, sort of. most top college guys just sign with nhl when ready to play nhl, not minors.
  15. So they didn’t trade up from 19 but nobody really expected them to. Now the question is do they use all their second round picks to move back into the first again? Or do they use all of them and just load up on secondary guys? The world needs ditch diggers.
  16. Love the descriptions I’ve read. He was mocked here and higher. It was bound to happen with all the Olivers I’ve seen in school in these days but is this the first one drafted by a Chicago team.?
  17. Try 4/400
  18. Gimme that upside. Kane was great, when he was great, but Bedard should and could be better.
  19. Hope this turns out better than the last time the words Jared and young were mentioned together in the news
  20. They signed Foligno for 1 year at $4m. Another short term overpay to fill out a depleted roster. He was a 4th liner and should be bottom 6, but on this roster he could theoretically play on the 2nd line with AA and Reichel. They should pretty much be at the floor, and even though they still don’t want to get “too good” this year, they might as well try to optimize that cap space and take on somebody else’s problem.
  21. The type of trade I assumed they needed to make, even if didn’t even consider the name. Assume Hall plays with Bedard. Interesting trading for a pending UFA as well, might overpay him to stay.
  22. How the Russian civil war impacts Matvei Michkov’s draft status, my column with reporting from Russian bureau desk…
  23. I’m not sure why anybody would take offense to the idea that a sub .500 team that has consistently traded away veterans in recent years would consider trading away a veteran.
  24. Hey Jed and David…,
  25. Just beer? Feller that size had to drink a couple thirty packs to get to .21
