By Tim Dierkes [January 6 at 8:08am CST] A note we missed from last night's Gordon Edes story: The Cubs and Padres appeared close to a deal for Jake Peavy in Las Vegas, but the Padres backed away, leaving the Cubs convinced that someone over Kevin Towers’ head pulled the plug. You may recall that during the Winter Meetings Towers told reporters that Cubs GM Jim Hendry pulled out of the deal.

really? yeah man...dero is the man he made a lot of big plays for the cubs, and brought with him a tremendous attitude... he was definitely a key factor in the thrill ride of the past two seasons

i got pretty choked up watching that... his homer in the playoffs was the happiness playoff moment i have had over the past two seasons I Miss You Mark!

Search through the board, this has been discussed thoroughly. The Cubs hit good RHP well in the regular season too. And of course you use the biggest copout, which is that Lou and Hendry agree with it. What about when Dusty was batting Patterson Neifi in the 1-2 spots and doing all sorts of other dumb things? We can't question him, because he has years of baseball knowledge, right? Basically you're saying we can never question anybody in charge of running a baseball team, which is really dumb considering that they make huge mistake all the time. Really weak. Piniella seems to get the benefit of the doubt alot . Lou doesn't play Pie because hes not ready /good etc. but Dusty doesn't play him because he hates young kids etc. Lilly throwing 130 pitches in a game is ok because "Lou knows his pitchers"If Dusty did that..... i like lou a heck of a lot better than dusty...but lou has made some pretty craptacular calls/non calls in the last two postseasons...

Unless we end up with Peavy, I sure wish the Cubs hadn't traded DeRosa. Seconded. There was no reason to get rid of DeRo unless a Peavy trade was imminent. thirded if we don't get peavy...then why in the hell didn't we just go after hermida instead of bradley i am not going to get mad yet, but the coals are certainly starting to warm

that is the only reason i am nervous about bradley i love his bat...i just don't know if he can stay healthy... however, if we are not going to be engaging in any crazy trades, as seems to be the case, then we should have a nice set of outfielders to choose from honestly, if we acquire bradley...the bullpen is my biggest concern
