  1. I'll repeat what I've said before. How do we know what the Cubs offered last year? The only numbers that are officially noted are when the player signs a contract. My guess is that the FO leaks the information that their offer was "competitive and considered" to appease the fans.
  2. Everyone keeps mentioning Gallen, like it's a sure thing. As soon as his agent starts talking contract terms the Cubs might fold again.
  3. Jed traded 3 players for Tucker who basically had a 1-year option.
  4. Extending Nico and possibly Kelly costs $$$. Hope Gallen signs and performs, hope Cassie can match either Happ or Suzuki, and then fill at least two holes with 2027 inflated contracts. Does that sound like a solid plan for a major market team?
  5. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but let's not give all the credit to Zobrist for the WS win. As I said before the 2015 Cubs were a very good club (97 wins) and many players increased their WAR from 2015 to 2016: i.e. Russell (1.1), Bryant (2.9), Fowler (1.7), Baez (2.1), Ross (1.8), Lester (3.2), and Hendricks (3.7).
  6. Zobrist helped a very good team win the WS. Dawson helped a team that was terrible for years get to 1st place. Dawson gets my vote for being the much better player.
  7. And yet we're o page 18.😂
  8. I like Mo and I agree he can hit, but he seems to be destined to be a DH. I think he would make a great addition to a trade package to get a SP. Using BTV, Ballesteros @22, Wicks @ 8.3, Brown @ 12.4, etc. certainly puts you in or near Cabrera @ 27.6 or Ryan @ 52.5 territory.
  9. PTR and Jed don't believe in spending future money either.
  10. All this talk about Bregman is silly. He made $36 million last year and walked away from $41.5 million for each of 2026 and 2027. These kinds of numbers are far so beyond Jed's allowance that it makes his head spin.
  11. Where are you getting the money for Bregman?
  12. I quoted you accurately using the word "OR". We'll see how exaggerated the numbers will be, but if we can't spend $10 - $15 million on an area of need, then why are we all pretending on Bregman "OR" a front-end pitcher?
  13. Somehow your numbers don't quite come out right. Jed has the money to sign Imai and maybe Okamoto, but can't sign Fairbanks ($13 million) and another $10 million pitcher? Then later you talk about Bregman or another high-end pitcher. Bregman will be $30 million, Imai or another high-end pitcher will probably be $25 million.
  14. Or spending money.
  15. The Cubs (so far) have painted themselves into a corner because of their reluctance to trade top prospects. Ballesteros needs to be part of a package (Wicks, Birdsell, Triantos, Brown, etc.) to obtain a TOR. Alcantara should be taught to play 1B (6' 6") so that he could back up PCA and Busch. Andujar would be a great addition, but Jed will wait too long, and he will sign elsewhere.
  16. Allegedly
  17. How do we know what The Cubs offer was? The only accurate numbers are when the player signs with a team.
  18. Have you forgotten who the owner of this team is? Do you remember what they did with the money saved by trading Bellinger?
  19. My out-of-the-box take is that we go to the Yankees and see if they would trade Stanton for Swanson which would solve their SS problem and give us extra money ($9 million this year, $12 million next year, and $53 million after that ). We get a DH that will probably hit 35-40 HR and frees up Ballesteros as trade bait. Obviously, Hoerner moves to SS and possibly Shaw moves to 2B. Use our truckload of trade assets (Alcantra, Ballesteros, Wicks, Assad, Brown, Birdsell, Long, Triantos, etc.) to get either Cabrera or Gore. I would try to keep Cassie, Rojas, and Wiggins if possible. Sign Imai or King using some of the money. Talk to Texas about trading for Jung for 3B. Sign Fairbanks as a closer. Another possibility is trying for Lowe (for 2B) and Jax which would put Shaw in the pool of tradeable assets.
  20. I take it as there's no reason for them not to sign Imai, Suarez, and Bergman except they refuse to go over the LT. The second part is a reason for them to not sign those players.
  21. You mean teams are actually allowed to trade top prospects for TOR pitchers? Somebody should tell Jed.
  22. That sounds like every FA story I've heard about the Cubs.
  23. You contradicted yourself when you said that " they are counting dollars to try being under the LT" and "There is no reason they shouldn’t get Imai, Suarez (RP) and Bregman this off season".
  24. It sounds like a whole bunch of gibberish to me. He might do this, but we might not, or we could do this first, but we're not sure and we're not mentioning any names positively.😂
  25. Most reporters are repeating what they've heard from other reporters.
