  1. Baez finishes 1/6 with a 2B and 1 K, Bryant 0/5 with 2 Ks. Neither player walked.
  2. Almora finished 2/3 with 2 singles in Game 1, but is currently 0/3 in Game 2. McKinney finished 0/2 with a BB and no Ks in Game 1, and is currently 1/1 with a BB in Game 2 (dude certainly seems to have a decent amount of plate patience).
  3. His nickname (on his BR page) is "Big game James". Also, he threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball in a world series, picking up the only win his team would get in that series. If KC makes it in the playoffs this year, he'll get a ton of credit for being that team's #1 pitcher. I don't put any stock into this, but I still have a hard time believing there won't be a GM (or 2 or 3) that will give him an 80-100Mil contract based on that type of stuff. Hell, it could be argued that KC gave up one of the best prospects in baseball for him based on that type of stuff. Who cares what his nickname is? His most recent playoff appearance was 2011 and he gave up 7 ER in 5 IP. Nobody is going to base their judgement on his ability on 2008. We do. You literally just made a sweeping generalization about his "reputation" (whatever that means) not being "that amazing," which sort of makes the fact that he has a fairly widely utilized nickname that actually has the words BIG GAME in it sort of a thing.
  4. Baez and Almora a combined 0/7, but with 0 Ks.
  5. Baez up to .239/.298/.457 for a .756 OPS.
  6. What do people think the FO will do Christian Villanueva? I assume whenever Kris Bryant is called up to Iowa, we'll at least try him at 3B. Obviously Villanueva isn't worth stalling arguably our best overall prospect, but he's not that far removed from being a fringy top-100 prospect with a major league-quality glove at 3B.
  7. so they must be #10 on the list Just checked with Heyman and it turns out they have a 25 year old in A ball hitting .270, so they do have the players. Make them #7. Winner.
  8. Looks like Bryant added another single, leaving him at 3/3 with a 2B and a BB so far.
  9. Brian (Denver, Smoke Weed Everday): Ben, Jen- Ho Tseng has had a nice start to the season. He was highly regarded in Taiwan prior to coming to the US. He isn't listed on the Cubs top 30 list, but has his status changed at all now that he is facing tougher competition? At the risk of stating the obvious, I assume this is about Baez?
  10. I was downright shocked when Len Kasper said his name. Seriously thought he'd been out of the long for half a decade, at least.
  11. Black's no-hitter now through 5 IP: 0 hits, 7 Ks, 2 BBs.
  12. Tigers' offer reportedly was 6 years $ 144 million.
  13. At this point it seems a lot more likely that Ubaldo settles for something in the 3/39 range than 4/60 or 5/75. He's still tied to a draft pick, was the worst pitcher in all of baseball (using xFIP) the year before last, and it's now mid-February. There's no way in h$ll he's getting $60+ million at this point.
  14. Our most recent offer to Jeff was 5 years / $55 million, which he (obviously) rejected. Would really like to know the ballpark amount he's asked for given how poopy the reported trade offers we're hearing about.
  15. Did anyone else hear that on the radio yesterday? Was a station or program specified? Assuming it would have been on ESPN 1000 given Olney works for them, or maybe it was said on ESPN TV. It was in an article by that Loxas dude. I heard it, too. You can listen to it on the ESPN 1000 daily podcast for yesterday (Wednesday 1/22). Olney spoke in vague, broad terms, but said that he's heard from other owners around MLB that the Cubs' ownership has been "surprised" by how much more difficult and expensive taking over the Cubs has been and how much the Cubs' ownership underestimated all of the money they'd have to put into various "expenses" and how much of a pain in the arse the rooftop situation would be with respect to the renovations. Not incredibly profound, nor is it particularly surprising. It would also be consistent with Theo and Jed not being fully aware of all the financial limitations they'd have; put simply, it's possible that the Ricketts weren't aware, either.
  16. FWIW: Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo 20m Dodgers cubs white sox Astros and dbacks in the hunt in the end with tanaka but Yankees bid was an estimated $25-$35 million more than rest
  17. Source? Agree -- right now it seems very unclear as to which team's offer was more, the Yankees or the Cubs. We have Passan saying the Cubs may have been slightly higher, and Rosenthal saying the Yankees were higher. Twitter seems in agreement that the Yankees' decision to up their offer to include a 7th year, an opt-out after year 4, and a no-trade clause were each instrumental, but none of this really speaks to which offer was "greater" in terms of total dollars (or whether the Cubs were already offering each of these sweeteners). The notion that the New York Freaking Yankees are somehow getting guys at a discount is [expletive] laughable. If you believe that, you are fooling yourself. I too would be real surprised if the Cubs' offer was better than that of the Yankees; just summarizing what little I've gleaned from the twitterverse.

  19. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 2h Sources: #Yankees separated themselves on Tanaka, but not by much. #Cubs, #Dodgers, #WhiteSox and #Astros all were involved.
  20. A few additional points concerning the Bears' off-season roster construction from PFF's recap of Sunday's meltdown: And don't worry, Wright / Conte took home the title belt as PFF's lowest-rated safety duo in the league this season. Impressive.
  21. D'Backs apparently "are willing" to fly to Japan to meet with Tanaka's people. Not really sure why this is news, since I'd presume any of the interested teams would do the same.
