    Yea, I'll be shocked if Rodgers is cleared to play. Seems like their whole "We did the tests on Tuesday, and we'll tell you what they say on Thursday" is a pretty clear shot across the bow that we're not to expect the story to be any different. Am late to this thread, but just wanted to re-quote my craptacularly wrong prediction from earlier and mention that if anyone here has any advice as to why my fortune-telling side business hasn't really taken off yet, I'd love a PM. Oh, and I predict a Packers victory via blow-out on Sunday. (Hoping this prediction is as accurate as my last one.) PPS: I'm sure it's been mentioned in here already, but rumor has it that Randall Cobb will also be suiting up. Which is just great.

    After their meetings this week, Cano and the Yankees are apparently $80 million apart. Cano asked for 9 years / $ 252 million (with a vesting option for a 10th year) The Yankees are offering 7 years / $170 million. It feels to me like the parties probably know they're stuck with each other and that, eventually, they'll just say screw it and meet in the middle around 8 years / $ 210 or something like that. I really don't see any way this doesn't get done.

    I'm going to post some of this clown's recent tweets to see if any of them will help (each of these are separate tweets from this afternoon): @Cerambam1736 Yeah, I had no idea that was still up there. Could see the confusion. Was basically told it's 25/35 minus internal raises. @TimBernier31 I just mean $25-$35 from here on out, but some of that will go to internal raises this offseason. Even if they don't plan on spending big, Cubs would probably stretch payroll for the right guy, as they tried to do with Sanchez last year. @mqmoody @harrypav @BleacherNation Not adding 60M. They're adding 30. So if you start at 60, you'll be 90. If start at 90 you'll be at 120 @Boost3383 @BleacherNation Well, I've already answered the question then when I say it's 25-30M minus expected raises.

    Those are going to be some of the most interesting negotiations ever. Given the relative (and increasing) dearth of quality SP available on the FA market, you're going to have teams internally wetting themselves to sign this guy but at the same time throwing Ubaldo's abomination of a 2012 season back in his face as negotiating leverage. How do you accurately price the fair market value for a guy who was arguably the best SP in baseball during the second half of this past season, yet the absolute worst starting pitcher in all of baseball the year before (per Fangraphs xFIP)?

    Doesn't surprise me at all. Same with respect to the Mets; no effing way are you getting Syndergaard AND Wheeler (or Montero or whoever) for Castro. I'd be surprised if we got either/or.

    Am not much of a Girardi fan but I'd be in favor of hiring him if for no other reason that, coming from the Yankees, I simply can't imagine he'd take the Cubs job without solid assurances from the front office that our financial situation is much less dour and constrained than it's been made out to be.

    According to Ben Badler, the Rangers may have the "inside edge" on signing Abreu: http://www.baseballamerica.com/international/five-teams-that-could-sign-jose-abreu/. Badler lists 4 other teams that "make sense" for Abreu, which include the White Sox, Nationals, Pirates, and Red Sox.
