  1. FWIW: Seen some rumors on the Twitterverse about Atlanta having interest in Josh Beckett.
  2. Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS #cubs proposed dempster-soriano package to #dodgers as alternative to just demp. so far not happening.
  3. For whatever it's worth, Jim Callis speculated (not unreasonably, IMO) that the fact that the Angels were able to swing Greinke with the rumored package might indicate that the Rangers weren't willing to part with Olt in a potential swap for Greinke. Then again, maybe they're content with 3-whatever-year-old Aramis at 3B for the foreseeable future.
  4. Crasnick just tweeted this: #Dodgers and #Cubs discussing a Ryan Dempster-for-Josh Lindblom deal, source says. (I admit to having absolutely zero clue who Josh Lindblom is.)
  5. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal Doubt #Cubs’ Garza would clear waivers. Best chance of deal would be off-season. Tough for team to take chance now with health uncertain.
  6. I'll be really surprised if anyone other than the Rangers ends up with Greinke.
  7. So in other words, Dempster completely screwed our negotiating leverage and the Dodgers know it. *chants "Cashner for Rizzo* to feel better* Yea, we're pretty much effed on getting anything even resembling Delgado at this point.
  8. Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN To this point, Ryan Dempster continues to hold firm in his preference to go to LAD. Cubs trying to make chicken salad out of this situation.
  9. Let's kill two birds with one stone and have the Dodgers trade for Greinke, leaving the Braves with no one left to turn to but us.
  10. I'm sure the Brewers would ask for Teheran in any deal involving Greinke. The Cubs' best hope may be to convince the Braves that we're only asking for Delgado and that the difference between 11ish starts from Dempster and 11ish starts from Greinke isn't significant enough to justify trading their best prospect to the Brewers.
  11. Pretty sure Dempster or his agent would file a grievance with the league if we were to banish him to the bullpen or run him into the ground, etc. Moreover, I can't imagine that be would a productive strategy as it concerns attracting and signing free agents.
  12. Ryan Braun, presumably now operating at relatively normal levels of testosterone, is now sporting a triple slash line of .319 / .398 / .619. That's...insane.
  13. Scott Miller ‏@ScottMCBS Scout on #Dodgers re. Garza: "If they've got the money, they should go after him (& not Dempster). He's a Froot Loop, but he can pitch"
  14. Joe Sheehan ‏@joe_sheehan Dempster starting tomorrow for the Cubs knocks about 10% of his remaining value off for whoever trades for him.
  15. Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan Demp: "I have a pretty good idea of where I want to go." Wouldn't discuss Braves/LA. Willing to take til deadline to decide.
  16. Mark Bowman ‏@mlbbowman Braves still waiting on decision from Dempster. If he accepts today, potential he could start tomorrow to give Hanson some extra rest.
  17. A couple of new tweets this morning: Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick Sources say Ryan Dempster had given preliminary indications that he would accept a trade to the #braves from #cubs Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick But when trade leaked out in media Monday before #cubs informed him, Dempster was not happy. Felt blindsided, said a source.
  18. Marlins are apparently taking calls on Hanley. No clue as to the asking price or what the front office's view of him is, but damn he'd look good at 3B.
  19. Kevin Goldstein ‏@Kevin_Goldstein Front office exec: "F***, that was a good deal for the Tigers."
  20. Speaking of Olt: Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler Rangers 3B Mike Olt hits his 26th home run, now third in the minors and only two behind leader Wil Myers.
  21. Latest from the AJC, sounds like everyone's basically waiting for Dempster to sign off: Link: http://blogs.ajc.com/atlanta-braves-blog/2012/07/23/braves-trying-to-finalize-trade-for-pitcher-dempster/
  22. In other not-so-fantastic news regarding any effort to trade Garza, the Red Sox are apparently scouting Josh Johnson's start tonight. I'm rather ambivalent about whether Garza is traded, but if the front office thinks a trade is the most efficient course of action, they better get moving.
