  1. With Sabathia off the board and Tex leaning towards east coast, the Angels will jump back in for sure.
  2. Keith Law is speculating the bidding for Burnett will top the package Zambrano got .
  3. Damn I was hoping there was chance Derosa would stay . Muskat is one source I trust will be wrong everytime.
  4. The Braves will really be lucky if they get two good years out of him.
  5. Jerry Hairston JR fits that bill rather nicely he can play the outfield and SS/2B. He really hit well last season for the Reds it might have been a fluke but for a utility guy we could do a lot worse. The way the bench shapes out will have a lot to do who platoons with Fontento.
  6. Watching a generally smart team like the Braves offer 5/80 to a guy that never stays healthy makes the "I hope Peavy doesn't suck in a few years because that contract is awful" look even more like a joke. The Cubs are getting a young ace who has been healthy for the most part on a shorter deal.
  7. Market finally heating up with K-Rod,Wood, Sabathia and Burnett/ Lowe seemingly close to deals with the Yankees/Braves. With Hendry freeing up some more cash by trading De-Rosa does he inject himself in the Furcal Sweepstakes? Does the extra cash allow Hendry to go after Dunn? Will Hendry go after a Grudz or Eckstein to platoon with Fontento?
  8. ESPN1000- news update No mention of Peavy Giambi and Abreu on Rays Radar.
  9. in the Levine deal we keep a lot of our trade pieces for nabbing a RF or possibly some bullpen help down the line.
  10. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/1323165,CST-SPT-cub10.article
  11. If the Indians get Wood for 12-14 mill, I will vomit. Gregg's gonna cost us five , plus Ceda's live arm. At this point Hendry should have stepped back in , you can always trade Gregg or keep him the setup role to protect Marmol.
  12. Dunn/Bradley/Abreu/Ibanez in that order for RF.
  13. Sully mentions the Cubs have not talked with Abreu yet but there's interest from both ends. Bradley, Dunn,Ibanez, Johnson,Grudz are my guesses
  14. Freel gives the orioles options for new leadoff hitter if they decide to trade Roberts  . I don't understand why Marquis can't be moved later in the offseason after more free agents fall off the board .
  15. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3758577&type=blogEntry Padres are ready to move on this, Philles are ready to move on this, yet where not close. Only holdup is the Cubs at this point. Is it because Marquis isn't in this deal and has to be dealt first?
  16. Towers mentions there meeting again tonight , I have a feeling this thread tops a 100 pages before the night is over.
  17. http://hotstove.mlblogs.com/archives/2008/12/getting_closer_to_a_deal_for_p.html
  18. Hendry and Towers talking local media at same time tonight? maybe too announce something?
  19. right now csn is covering the bulls . I will update.
  20. I love this time of year, this guy is just driving up traffic to his site.
  21. Theriot/Fonty platoon at second. Hendry can go get his leadoff hitter Furcal for SS and sign Bradley for right. Losing both Derosa and Marquis contracts along with reports of the payroll in the 145-150 is there enough room?
  22. Grudz would be a cheap platoon option that kills lefties. All this talk of the Cubs trading Derosa makes me wonder if in one of these four team deals BRoberts also becomes a Cub. Who exactly are you trading to Baltimore to get Roberts? After the Peavy deal, there will be little left to trade. After last year's debacle, I don't see Hendry wasting any time talking to MacPhail about Roberts. If the Cubs still have money left over after trading for Peavy and signing Bradley, Furcal would make more sense than Roberts since he can be signed as a free agent. I doubt they have the money to do all 3, however. Money would be the main problem. Roberts is in a walk year and Baltimore did say they wanted to sign him long term otherwise they would shop him at the meetings. Marquis Derosa Pie Cedeno Marshall Vitters Those six might bring back enough talent in a four team deal that could net the Cubs both Peavy/Roberts.
  23. Grudz would be a cheap platoon option that kills lefties. All this talk of the Cubs trading Derosa makes me wonder if in one of these four team deals BRoberts also becomes a Cub.
