    I'd be game, but I think he would cost more for 2009 than Dempster would on a per-year basis. I think Dempster is the better pitcher as this point in their careers, plus Dempster is a big-time clubhouse presence. If Dempster turns down our best offer, then Johnson could be part of a Plan B, C, or D. I agree Dempster leadership will be missed if he goes elsewhere . I'm not sure about the costing more per year basis Johnson is reported to seeking some in the neighborhood of 8-10 millon on a one year deal with the Diamondbacks offering 4-5 million on a one year deal.

    If Hendry lands Peavy and Dempster leaves some reports had us targeting another starter like Lowe to join the rotation . If the top tier guys Hendry targets become out of his price range. Anyone interested in Randy Johnson on a one year deal incentive based? He a great second half year and did a radio interview last year he raved about Piniella. Johnson wants to play for a contender and get 300 wins something the Cubs can offer him.

    If Levine's reports of a $150 million dollar payroll are correct Hendry has room to work with , even more if we don't bring back Wood and trade Marquis.

    Bruce are the CUbs targeting both dempster and peavy or either or? If Wood lweaves do they replace him in-house?

    The Blue Jays-Will have money to spend with AJ opting out and he might want to come home. Peavy would be a nice upgrade from Dempster.

    Hopefully they keep running RIch out there and he can come to camp back to normal and compete for a spot in the rotation.

    I would rather have Abreu,Bradley,Dunn ect in right field since were considering Ibanez who is a horrible outfielder.

    I think the Cubs have an edge in the Peavy sweepstakes if they also agree to take Greene's contract. A Peavy/Greene package is a way to start the offseason for Hendry.

    I was really hoping he could be a 6th starter or long man next year at some point for the Cubs but it's not looking good for Rich. "Maybe this is the year" annual winner Angel Guzman threw well in his last start.

    The Type A status plus the money he'll get really takes away from his vaule. Rafael Soranio might be had cheap coming off some health issues last year he returned to pitch well.

    This offseason I think Juan Cruz and Jeremy Alfredt will be undervauled and would make nice additions to the Cubs bullpen.
