  1. Yea this is what actually happens when you don't let an Ed Wade or Jim Hendry run your team.
  2. At the very least, Jed confirmed talks with the Tigers on Bowden's show. Not that that's surprising at all.
  3. Would it be unreasonable to expect Beliveau to make the jump this season? EDIT: Also you've got reclamation projects like Corpas and Sonnanstine
  4. It'll be nice to directly compare him to a bad GM. At least he's succeeding as an interviewer!
  5. Jed Hoyer on MLB Radio on XM/Sirius this hour with Bowden.
  6. I'd be surprised if that meant much. This thing sure quieted down real fast.
  7. I think it's "drink until he stops making you sad".
  8. Incentives for the deal: Also ridiculously reasonable.
  9. I still say the Nationals break and give him something close to 7 years.
  10. Fangraphs had him listed at being worth about $2.1 million last season. If "substantial raise" means at least $3 million a year, or even $3.5, they're overpaying, but if he's holding out for an extra $500K-$1MM there probably isn't any harm in paying him that with all the money we're not spending on FA's, but he's honestly not worth that much money from a baseball standpoint. It'd be for the whole Golden Calf effect. I'm A-OK with that, but if they don't sign him it's not exactly a dumb baseball move. SCARY FACT: I know one was a starter and the other was a reliever, but Doug Davis was considered more valuable than Kerry Wood last year, and in fewer innings pitched (0.7 to 0.5). They could still be saving money to splurge on the Cubans, although that may just be being hopeful. I don't mind them overpaying a bit, because hey it's Kerry. If he wants like 4 mil, I'd say let him walk. I might be biased because I will forever view him as a legit injury risk.
  11. Dig the article. Were the Pirates infielders juggling flaming chainsaws inbetween pitches that year? I think it's worth noting that Rizzo, who will almost certainly be up at some point this year, is also supposed to be above average with the glove.
  12. Not surprised by that. Still, I expect Theo and Jed have a thing or two they want to have done before the convention. Speaking of which, I didn't see Garza's name on the schedule that came out today.
  13. I really have to think that this kind of stuff is how Theo and Jed decided to combat the changes in the new CBA. Obtaining prospects via rehab projects and trades as opposed to stockpiling in a draft and IFA.
  14. He should make Wrigley shout "MOVE THAT BUS" at the trade deadline.
  15. Yea if the Phillies want him, I'd rather he make more money and have a shot at a ring.
  16. Yuck. I guess Theo thinks he could be traded for filler at the deadline, otherwise you just DFA him in September when its time to call-up the McNutts of the world? They've done enough wonderful things over the past few weeks for me not to question this. Seriously, I'd just view this as a junk player only to be used in case of emergency, likely as bullpen depth and a 7th/8th starter. It's not like he's going to get a significant contract or anything.
  17. Even without the flyers, not giving Edwin Jackson or Buerhle the contracts they'd want is an excellent idea. Those are NOT the guys you overpay for. Also, Maholm is a lot easier to get the hang of than Buerhle, so there's that.
  18. Wow. If that's it, great freaking deal. I approve. Our front office is so freaking awesome. They haven't even given a mediocre-horrible lefty reliever a bloated contract yet!
  19. It feels like half of the baseball player Twitter accounts I've seen have a sub-header along the lines of "Walking with Jesus!" Where are they all walking to, anyway?
  20. Wow. If that's it, great freaking deal. I approve.
  21. The first ever Cub to announcing his own signing, via twitter no less, according to Sullivan.
  22. At that price I'll pick it up regardless. I had no idea it was that cheap. I was trying to confirm last year, and they were actually offering it as a $10 add on if you ordered MLB.tv. Not sure if they'll bring that back this year. Yea the current website is rather confusing.
