    BleacherNation, which is down at the moment, claims that the Matt Garza trade and resurgence of the efforts to resolve the Red Sox compensation are related, which is interesting.

    I feel a little ridiculous even typing this, but... Jon Morosi was speculating on Twitter that the Royals could conceivably be a "front-line" starter away from being able to challenge the Tigers for the rather blah AL Central. As someone that has certainly not kept up on that team, is there any chance that isn't a totally dumb speculation? I'd have to imagine that Garza would be an intriguing target for them were that the case.

    would the bears be interested in desean jackson? i'm 95% sure he'll be leaving philly (badmouthed the coaching staff, which is more or less a ticket out of town) and he's quite clearly a big play receiver. I certainly am.

    just a thought. but it would be nice if the yanks spun pineda and banuellos(sp) ... our way for Garza. Maybe this is a precursory trade? I'd love it, but I'd be pretty surprised. If I were the Yanks, I'd probably rather have Pineda.

    I wouldn't be shocked if they were in the WC mix down the stretch, especially if it gets expanded.

    As I said in the Garza thread, I'm really hoping this forces the hand of another AL power (Tigers, Sox, Jays) and convinces them to overpay for Garza.

    So the Yankees gave their rotation a pretty huge upgrade tonight out of nowhere with Pineda and Kuroda. I've gotta think this could make the Jays/Red Sox overpay for Garza to keep them in the race.
