  1. Yeah I think DeRo would've had that one cleanly. Not that I'm reccommending it, but: Ward in RF and Lee at 1B has to be worse than Ward at 1B with Lee at a corner OF spot. DLee's a great first baseman, but he's so much more athletic than Ward, soft hands, a strong arm and good fielding instincts.
  2. I think that due to the "-ie" suffix "Cubbie" has the connotation of sounding small and weak, even moreso than "Cub" which is a cute widdle cuddwy baby bear. edit: yeah, what they said.
  3. It's because I started wearing my Zambrano jersey t-shirt when he starts. Last year it proved bad luck the few times I wore it when he started. But this year I had it on accidently the next game Z started after the fight with Barrett, and it paid dividends. I've worn it every start since even if it's dirty. Just happy to do my part. 8-)
  4. It seems to me that when veteran players take a lot of flack, it's usually warranted due to poor production and/or because the vet is blocking a younger (likely cheaper) player from getting a chance. I don't think there are too many people on here that would dislike a veteran player just because they're old, so long as their numbers are still there. Grudz and Karros got a lot of love from fans in 03, especially considerig what we sent to LAD for them. Jones has stunk it up at times but has been a little better this past month. Cub fans want to get behind him, you can hear the ovations he gets when he does get a basehit. Lilly has been very good this year, and quickly becoming a fan favorite. Marquis is an acceptable 5th starter who's shown flashes of both brilliance and suckitude, but he's eating innings and has a winning record fwiw. Of the players you listed, I don't think any of them recieved harsh treatment when it wasn't deserved. Any reasonable cub fan would love it if Kendall raised his numbers that much. I don't think it's gonna happen, but I'd be fine if Kendall got all the PT if he's productive.
  5. I'd have liked to see Sori dropped down in the order today, considering the lack of power in this lineup. Way to suck, Ward.
  6. Brewers TV is saying it looks worse than a blister; like a problem near the knuckle. And my last place yahoo keeper team gets kicked in the jewels again...
  7. I totally agree with this sentiment. The Brewers have been kicked around for so long, it doesn't feel all bad to see them have some things start to work out for them. I'd be totally fine with the Brew Crew winning the NL wildcard. I don't think I can ever derive the same amount of acrimony for Prince Fielder or Ben Sheets as I have over the years for other rivals' stars, like Jim Edmonds, Eckstein, Biggio, Bagwell (mainly just his stupid stance) or especially Clemens when he was with the Stro's. I think the only Brewer I really dislike is Jenkins, seems that he's done well against the Cubs. I'm not sure where to look up a players lifetime stats against a particular team though. edit: Corey Hart's a bee-atch.
  8. Why's Marshall done after just 81 pitches thrown? I'm distractedly watching the game, was he seriously laboring?
  9. I just got back a little while ago from the game, and it was complete BS. Lilly getting tossed for no apparent reason was bad enough, but the way we battled back just to give the game away was too much to handle. After the Cubs had bases loaded no outs in the 8th and failed to score, I just had a horrible feeling they were gonna lose, and they sure proved me right. Damn it all.
  10. I'm so freakin sick of Cesar it's not even funny.
  11. Yeah seriously, I just got to the thread to see what folks were saying about Z after the K, but then Prince blasts one. Lotsa cringe-worthy puns from Bob.
  12. At least we have the comfort of knowing that Edward K. from Indianapolis hasn't had any direct influence on Hendry's decision-making as of yet. Was Ed K from Indy the guy that was singing Neifi's praises? I know he wrote to Muskat with a completely assinine question, but what exactly it was eludes me at the moment...
  13. I was only around 13 at the time, but i vaguely remember that thread on cubs.com. Care to refresh my memory? Some Cards fan (hogcard was his name?) who was a frequent troll on cubs.com started up a thread by that title, complete with improper usage of "your" instead of "you're". The post was a poorly conceived argument that Z was going to hurt the cubs, and this was right before he really broke out into the pitcher he's become. Needless to say, as Carlos dominated the thread was bumped countless times to lampoon the initial post.
  14. your in trouble. Wow, it's been a while since I've thought about that gem from cubs.com
  15. I sure do like him on my keeper team. Keep it going, G-Man!
  16. As long as Prior reported within the mandated timeframe, I don't see any issue. He's probably not as buddy-buddy with the minor guys than his friends on the big league club, so he's likely not going out of his way to spend his free time there, which would also involve dealing with reporters more than he's probably feeling like at present. If I were a multi-millionaire, I could think of some pretty awesome ways to spend 72 hours off work.
  17. Len and Bob commented on how much work M-Bar has been putting into improving his defense, and I recall he made some pretty nice blocks in spring games I saw. If he can bring his defense up to league averge or even plus, he'll be much more of an asset to this club. You won't see the bobbleheads on ESPN give him much due, but Barrett scores high on all the intangibles they fawn so hard over- Grit ratio, Moxie average, Toughness rating... I can't quantify it but I knows it when I sees it.
  18. Yeah that's a head scratcher for me as well. I remember reading some really outlandish rumors there that never materialized in other outlets, so it didn't impress me that much.
  19. Also if he's 31, his speed is likely to decline in the near future, making him not quite the five-tool player he's now known as. Doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested at all, but not for megabucks. Of course getting him is contingent on Pie's showing this season. If Felix tears up AAA and shows he can compete in the Bigs, then our outfield will be set for some years with two cheap productive players, and we'd have flexibility to pay our pitchers and upgrade SS.
  20. other: "You know who I think is the best candidate to run in '08?" or "let me tell you what I think needs to happen in Iraq..." coincidentally, I often here these two topics brought up within a beer or two of each-other.
  21. The poll mention nothing about living or dead, so my vote goes to Harry Caray. Among the active, I'd go with Len Kasper.
  22. Man, your sig totally belongs on the Side-Boob Hour.
