  1. This I agree with. I think a move to the NL brings him back to 120 ERA+
  2. IIRC, the Colts have had their number in regular season lately. I don't think the Pats have won in the dome for a while. The Pats have never had a problem scoring against em', torching the Colts numerous times. Brady most likely throws 3 TD's, 2 to Moss. Colts still win by 4. Wayne, Harrison and Clark all catch a TD while Addai runs for 1. 31-27 Colts. Just can't bet against the Colts in the regular season, especially at home, even against the Pats.
  3. It's true. Any team can win.. But the better teams always have a better shot going in, and I tend to think the Cubs are the best NL playoff team all around... Playoff team, yes. We match up well with just about any of the contenders, although I'd rather not go out West if I didn't have to. However, how we play in the remaining regular season games remains to be seen. I wouldn't mind playing the Padres. No Cameron and no Bradley. Chris Young has a 5.48 ERA in August and 7.00 in September and he's given up at least three earned runs in seven straight starts. True, but I would expect Young gets it together for the playoffs, though thats just a hunch, that would be a huge turn-around. I would expect us to beat the Padres. I'm an optimistic fan and I do believe we will make the playoffs. This year with the bad start I predicted a huge win streak during the summer to bring us right back to the top. I'm just a half-full cup kind of guy. I just don't like the match up with the Mets/Phillies and the D'backs have our number. I see a more offensive driven playoff series and if we bring the September bats we can slug with anybody but if we go cold I don't know if our starting pitching is strong enough. It easily can be when Lilly/Z/Hill are on but you never know facing the stacked lineups of the Mets or Phils, assuming we make it there. I wish we had the dominant 1-2 of 03'. I'm probably just being apprehensive.
  4. 2002 - 15 HR 61 RBI - .275, .337, .419, .756 2003 - 22 HR 91 RBI - .280, .357, .462, .819 2004 - 39 HR 106 RBI - .293, .361, .557, .918 His 1st season was terrible, but his numbers in 03' and especially 04' would sure look good in our lineup. He did plenty of annoying things but I would take pee-hands back, guy can rake. I wonder what his retirement plans are, he doesn't seem to slow down hitting wise. A move to the AL and he could easily go another 3 years of high productivity barring health issues.
  5. First time I ever played baseball, well technically tee ball, I ran to 3rd base instead of 1st, and never dropped my bat.
  6. In the title of this game thread, what does the CTD stand for?
  7. Earlier in the year, weren't SI the guys who were doing the basic metric introductions, explaining win/loss as a bad indicator, etc.?
  8. Wow, the optimism for the Cubs' offense today has me feeling all weird inside.
  9. Does anyone know if the Thursday game is on WGN?
  10. or was it the best game thread ever? http://www.austinchronicle.com/binary/c3922e57/i_see_what_you_did_there.jpg
  11. no. The way he looked at the plate tonight, I have to disagree. His timing seemed off. I think a few games in the minors might have helped. I think a rehab assignment would have definitely helped but I agree with the decision for him to be in there. He is one of the few guys who can put a dent in the scoreboard with 1 pitch. We're in one of the biggest series of the year, probably the biggest so far and I'll take the potential over what has been dragged out there lately to meagerly put up 1-2 runs.
  12. Oh what the crap? I thought Sheets would either miss the series or pitch the 3rd game. Oh well, I like our chances with Z facing him. Hes due for a good outing here, as long as his adrenaline doesn't take over and he starts off bad. I'm also predicting a big hit, perhaps 2 ribbys. Cubs hit hard throwing right handers pretty effectively, but being lazy and not looking up stats I believe Sheets has pretty good #'s against the Cubs. Lets hope his rust somehow turns into a 3-run homer, assuming the Cubs remember what that is.
  13. Doesn't JJ have on and off years? Let him ride out his contract and hit righties all day long. Only thing is he will take the time away from Murton if Pie starts producing, but we have seen worse with Uncle Cliff and a platoon is better than nothing for the Rooster. Not to mention I simply can not complain if Pie becomes an average contributor on offense next year. However, if this hitting attracts the buyers then by all means move him this summer, I'm sure we will even be able to find something better then that Marlins deal.
  14. I wouldn't mind seeing Petrick up. From what I can remember he was lit up hard once but the rest of the time he had a good live arm. Piggy and Gallagher as well. Soto, Fox, and Cedeno as the 3 bats.

  16. http://espn.go.com/photo/2007/0816/snibbe_race2.jpg I liked this: "Only die-hards can stand watching the Dodgers for the last three weeks. With every inning and Pierre pop up, we die a little. But we still watch the games." And the Padres hate is effectively funny as well: "Padres? Who the hell wants to root for Khalil Greene? that." "I'd rather masturbate with sandpaper than root for a team with a Chicken as their mascot." Oh man this helped cure my boredom, thanks for reviving this thread.
  17. "How the are you hitting above .100 Pierre. I don't get it! I don't think I've ever actually seen you hit the ball."
  18. Oh man I love that board, haven't been there in a while. For some reason, no matter how many times I see it, the idea of replacing Pierre with a poodle gets me laughing out loud every time.
