  1. WTF REED JOHNSON?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!? Never again will I say well this isn't that bad of a pickup, he could be a decent platoon player.
  2. "He's got experience," said manager Lou Piniella. "He's played in big situations. I think here at Wrigley Field with the crowd and so forth and the fact that this club can win, I think those are all positives for bringing in a veteran player." I hate Lou. That doesn't even make any sense.
  3. I don't see what this has to do with anything. I'm guessing that Edmonds will hit 150 and give Johnson more AB's while Edmonds sits on the bench until he's released. The only positive that comes from this is it will stop Lou's moronic usage of batting Johnson against righties because he has his reliable veteran Edmonds now. Edmonds will most likely fail and quickly and we can see Pie brought back up and enter this platoon. If he produces incredibly high within the 1st week he might even get continued playing time.
  4. Someone warn the players to cover their crotches after they score and for their wives to not leave their mascara out. Ugh this is frustrating, I wonder how Pie feels about this.
  5. The only thing hes doing is perpetuating the Steinbrenner stereotype. These comments will have no effect on the players what so ever. Its not like they are out there not trying, he needs to stop being so moronic, the act has far worn out its welcome.
  6. I played into college ball and considered myself a good hitter, I had an average of .330 and an OBP over .450 in high school and the college pitchers I faced were nothing special to me but I quit before the season even started, just was tired of playing. I've also got to go to a real nice batting cage and hit 90 mph fastballs and was able to get some good rips on the ball after being so completely blown away I thought I didn't have a chance. Against a major leaguer changing speeds I'd be sat down very quickly, however if say I got to see 10-15 pitches I think I could manage a hit as long as he was staying in the zone.
  7. I think Lou goes like this: Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Fukudome Soto Fontenot Pie Pie gets to continue his enjoyment of starting against tough righties only I must add this is also contingent on Edmonds not becoming a Cub
  8. Well he had 5 walks in 62 games at Tenn last year compared to 11 walks in 39 games this year. Still terrible, but improvement none the less. And Truffle, I was talking about the game, not his season up to date.
  9. I might have just not paid any attention and missed the post but how much of this is actually guaranteed? This contract might be heavily incentive laden and he might only be paid middle of the road which seems plenty fair to me.
  10. Nobody is welcoming Edmonds with "open arms", it's the simply inevitable that Hendry will sign Edmonds. 99.999999999999999999999 to inifnity% of the Cubs fans would prefer to keep Pie up and not sign Edmonds. But Hendry/Piniella has a man-crush on Edmonds.... Actually, on the Tribune poll a full 39.6% endorse the move. In not unrelated news, I hate 39.6% of Cubs fans. This just made me spit Gatorade all over my keyboard. The bill will arrive shortly.
  11. Colvin tearing it up, good to see.
  12. I pegged him for about 100 wins by now. He will never be forgotten because of what he did in 03', he just gets to be another example of what could have been.
  13. I didn't think Gagne would be that great for them but I didn't expect total failure. Its incredibly fortunate to the Cubs to see their competition blow away games, even if there to one another.
  14. Jeebus forbid if Marmol goes down. I actually hope he does something stupid during the summer like stub his toe too hard and go to the DL so he can have an elongated rest before September rolls around. I have to assume he has a stretch of dead arm I just hope it doesn't come at the most inopportune time. I may just be overly worried due to the Cubs' past with pitcher abuse issues. Maybe Lou will let up when we get a comfortable lead in the division...But Truffle brings up a great point, there's no way he gets to 100 innings, hopefully this is due to being rested and not due to incapability.
  15. Its so incredibly stupid and frustrating I just try to ignore it. There is nothing I can do except hope either Lou gets smarter or Marmol's arm can just handle it. I really wish some one would ask him post game about this so we can see his incredibly asinine logic. Until then I remain dumbfounded as on aggravated outsider.
  16. Soriano must have himself an incredibly lucky rabbit's foot on him or something...A 3-4 day with the potential game winning RBI double. Bloopers and hanging sliders ftw.
  17. Well Soto is moved up and Pie is in, I can't complain too much.
  18. Is there some reason why he could not have had a rehab stint for a couple days? Hes not even close to ready right now.
  19. That just strikes me as completely unnecessary. Although the situation may well be different behind the scenes.
  20. I could see the PUP for Benson, not because of injuyr, but because no team has signed him after the Bears cut him. I'm leaning more and more toward the idea that they will be cutting Benson. Angelo went from talking about Cedric as needing to improve before the draft, to practically dismissing him after they got Forte. They like Peterson on ST and as a backup. They presumably like Wolfe for his change of pace situation. And considering the RB in the system that Forte is most similar to is Benson, I would think Cedric would be a good candidate to be cut. He probably will be given through training camp to prove he deserves more of a chance. But I could definitely see them cut him before even the first preseason game. I wouldn't like that at all. This is a great time to open this camp up with the position wide open and see some competition. I think we might see a new Benson with Forte pushing him. Or perhaps they both work out and we see what we did with Jones/Benson. At the very least you give him one last year here, I don't know how much lower his value can get. If Forte outright wins the position then great, then we send Benson packing. Lets not put all our eggs in one basket again with a new RB, at least not without a little caution. By the way, what kind of cap issue would we see if Benson was cut?
  21. Thank you for this one sir
  22. I like the way Angelo drafted over the weekend. We got a franchise LT and what could become our starting RB in no time. Since RBs usually have the best impact among rookies we may have gotten some great value for what is considered a bit of a reach. Bennett looks to be a good fit, It looks like Turner's plan is to use Hester and Bradley as our deep threats with a whole bunch of slot type receivers (Booker, Bennett, Davis) for the mid range passing game and a good look at 2 TE sets considering we have 3 formidable options there. I believe our red zone offense will improve by leaps and bounds this year with Olsen, Davis, Bennett and Monk. Our improved pass blocking should allow us to resemble an offense this year, provided Grossman takes advantage of his last chance or Neckbeard takes the reigns and delivers. Our defense will once again be our strength, yeah big surprise. We now have a lot of depth, especially at the S position which has been killing us with injuries followed by lesser production. Angelo used multiple draft picks to pick guys with big upside that had their draft position slide due to various reasons - injuries, character issues, etc. If one of those guys produce thats a steal (Harrison, Monk, Bowman). I look for Steltz to find his way into the starting role, at least in an active rotation. Hopefully Payne comes back from his injury well and sticks back there. Our DT rotation should be solid if Dusty stays healthy and there are no concerns about our corners and linebackers. There is plenty of competition in camp and a whole bunch of potential for the defense, since they were all drafted after the 2nd round by Angelo I feel incredibly confident they will produce and become starters in the future. With our defense coming back again the spotlight of concern shines on our offense. With what appears to be an improved line, especially if Beekman claims a starting job, we may be looking at a pretty adequate OL. Lets just hope Turner finds a way to utilize the weapons we have. Bennett has some great production in college, I think he should translate well into the pro offense. Hester should allow us to stretch the defense and our RB depth should allow us to find one who works. If this OL holds up I think we make some noise and find a way into the playoffs. Of course we all have to keep our fingers crossed that our QB play is adequate. I'm thinking we're at 9-7 with a good chance for 10-11 wins.
