  1. the handball rule is ridiculous. Pulisic looked good. Having another good threat out there will help him. Nice finish on his goal. I thought Mount looked better too and was wondering if that was because Kante wasn't out there. Could two unstructured players create dysfunction?
  2. The NBA may be the only league to pull this off with the teams in a bubble in Orlando. Granted, they only have to finish the end of the 2020 season with smaller rosters than other sports. Hockey will, they are in a country that has actual leadership and the virus seems to be a bit more under control. The NBA being in Florida might not be so fortunate Perhaps the other leagues can negotiate to play in Europe. With no fans, would it matter that much? It stays light late in summer - the players won't mind 2 AM gametimes at all.
  3. VAR is great. So glad we have it. Should have called the foul though. The handball rule is dumb. In any case, anything that makes Mourinho suffer is a plus. Got to catch the Werder relegation battle last night - they stayed up. Sargent started and looked like a boy against men in the first half. Came out much better in the second and should have scored after a great run. He could use to be on a better team - Werder is constantly playing long balls up and Sargent's strength does not seem to be in the air. Hopefully Werder reloads and fields a better team next season.
  4. I think the team probably has as much talent as ever but perhaps they aren't as strong as ever yet. Injuries are worrisome as a lot of the key players seem to be hurt a lot (Pulisic chief amongst them). Add Reyna and the kid at Barca B to the mix . . . very encouraging future.
  5. I don't buy that on Abraham - his movement off the ball is atrocious. Pulisic looked really good yesterday - almost DeBruyne like with the ball. Last I heard was Chelsea was no longer in on Havertz. Abraham's non-penalty Goals/90 is 6th in the league(between Mane and Auba) and non-penalty xG is 3rd(behind 2 guys who missed time in Jesus and Aguero). As far as off the ball work, Giroud isn't a top line striker any longer, but he's no slouch at the dirty work and the team is way better when Abraham is in there. This isn't to say that Abraham is a decided superstar, but I'd probably spend a bit less than 150 million on giving him competition given the number of other spots on that team that are just okay. he's not a top 5 striker in the PL. though perhaps Wolf is right and it's the midfield that is the problem - I completely agree they look a lot less disjointed when CP is on the field. In the first half yesterday, he must have made 5 perfect passes that caught his teammates flat-footed. Giroud is awful.

  7. Mount is maybe the tryhardiest player I've ever seen. As a USMNT fan and nominal Liverpool supporter, today is a good day. I am not impressed with Mount. Or Tammy Abraham. Will be interesting what happens with Werner coming in. Hopefully Lampard understands.
  8. I wouldn't bet on it making it to the starting line.
  9. I would think it would tilt home field advantage.
  10. no video? #-o
  11. and we have a Pulisic sighting - scored the equalizer for Chelsea! He looked active but rusty - but they all look rusty.
  12. I'd say there's a good chance MLS happens this year. NBA could happen but suddenly Orlando is the worst place to have it. NHL should be fine overall. MLB would be fine if the owners cared about anything other than their bottom line. NFL is probably going to happen but shouldn't. the contact sports are likely the ones to be most in jeopardy in terms of infection, so nfl, nba, hockey, maybe soccer in that order from wrost to best. mlb is pretty safe in comparison. in terms of timing, mlb, nfl,(when is the soccer season??) and nba/ nhl in terms of worst timing to best. i'd say its a pretty mixed bag really eta : but if I handicapped them the way I outlined them I'd say worst chances to best are nfl nba hockey mlb depending on mls's schedule, they are in the nba/hockey group I believe, but lower on the scale Soccer is comparable to hockey I would say but it's outdoors. MLS season is right now. for reference, they are playing professional soccer in Europe right now - in Germany since May 16. It's going fine. No fans.
  13. 8 divisions of 4 would lend itself to them pretty easily. With everyone under the DH and smaller divisions you could realign more optimally for geography too. thats a lot of divisions. I wonder if they could reduce the travel that way also. ok, my shot at 8 four team divisions: AL West Oakland Seattle Portland Colorado Central Minnesota White Sox Cleveland Detroit South Texas Houston Arizona Kansas City East Boston Yankees Baltimore Philadelphia NL West San Francisco Dodgers San Diego Anaheim Central Cubs St. Louis Milwaukee Cincinnati North Toronto Washington Pittsburgh Montreal East Tampa Miami Mets Atlanta
  14. yes, there has to be some significant reward for finishing first. 16 does not suggest byes though. 8 divisions of 4 would lend itself to them pretty easily. With everyone under the DH and smaller divisions you could realign more optimally for geography too. If you start with 8 teams and eliminate 4, you have 12 teams left. How do you get down to a format that can play out with 16 teams if 8 teams have byes? I don't see it. If you have 6 divisions, you could take 10 more teams and play down to 8. Say the the four best 3rd place teams play down to 2 and then those two teams play the 2nd place teams to get down to 2 again. A lot of down time for division winners potentially.

  17. Agreed on all counts. A 162-game season doesn't remotely require a playoff with half the teams in it, especially in the sport already least likely to produce a representative champion. 16 team playoff totally diminishes regular season. terrible. it will be like hockey where there is no reason to watch until playoffs start.
  18. Interesting that this may be the end of pitchers hitting. I have come around to it - I guess it will still have to be in the new CBA
  19. The whole situation is just sickening. Billionaires against the world. Did anyone read Doug Glanville's column? Not much insight really but it was truly bizarre in that he seems to think MLB is leading the world in how to get back to playing sports . . . is he really that unaware?
  20. "His Type 1 diabetes is another complicating factor that doesn't really have a precedent for everyday position players" apparently has never heard of Ron Santo.
  21. https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-transfers/story/4097302/bayern-munich-keen-on-us-teen-sergino-dest-amid-barcelona-interest-agent Dest on the move? This would seem like a good indication of his level of talent although the list of Barca washouts is seemingly endless. They need outside backs badly though. Playing opposite Davies would also be interesting.
  22. fair enough. I guess I just don't think the doc made Jordan look good as a person. as a player, yea, but that was probably more reminder than anything. There have been a ton of positive articles about Pippen at least. For me, he was the best defensive player I ever saw (granted I stopped watching after 1998). I remember that if Pippen was hitting from outside, the bulls were unstoppable. I enjoyed the documentary but I can see your point about it not being great or documenting 1998. btw, found this old photo from Arizona . . . trying to remember what year that was.
  23. this seems like a reach to me. Jordan doesn't look good to me in the series - just was who he is. I don't buy the conspiracy around it. 1. I thought both were portrayed as out of line but frankly, Krause is the villain. 2. Fair assessment of Pippen 3. Fair assessment of Pippen 4. Who knows? I think Jordan comes off looking like an ahole for doubting Pippen actually was sick 5. This is what happened. Where's the controversy? I think Grant makes himself look really stupid by complaining about it - Scottie is smart not to say anything. My takeaway from the series is Jordan was an ahole and the best player ever.
  24. He got lots of interviews, but they didn't spend a ton of time on his game, I think was Regular Show's point. Makes sense that he got a lot of air time though. Scottie is kind of dull to listen to. Rodman was probably hell to get to focus. Harper and Kukoc are fine to listen to, but Kerr is definitely a good interview. They didn't even include Longley. Did Randy Brown also not get air time? He was at least as important as Wenington and Bucheler. Stacy King?
  25. Soccer on TV this weekend! Hope everything goes well. Here is a Bundesliga primer if it's new to you: https://www.espn.com/soccer/german-bundesliga/story/4093811/german-bundesliga-returns-bayerns-title-fightmust-see-matches-and-players-to-watch
