    i agree with you're ideas here, except that corey isnt a good hitter, we saw glimpses of what he could be if left alone with his abilities in 2003... .298BA, .320OBP, .511SLG.corey was over coached and forced into roles he was never meant to play, it screwed with his approach so much that he just lost it his lack of plate discipline screwed him up.

    But Galloway's drive to the basket was thwarted by Williams, and despite replays that clearly showed the ball going out of bounds off Williams, the Blue Devils were given possession. Surprise, surprise, surprise

    If the only thing you can do to motivate a guy is to not protect him, you probably aren't any good at motivating people. Or Sisco is unresponsive to that type of motivation. If you only use one type, it's your own fault. Every sports organization has to deal with a wide range of motivationals tools for their many different athletes. I find it hard to believe a young pitcher should need outside motivation to make it to the major leagues. if he did, he won't stay long. Perhaps what you mean is that it was a wake up call.

    That's just the Kool Aid talking. If Cedeno & Murton managed to put up OBP's of .358 and .378 respectively, that woluld bring the team OBP into the .335 to .336 range. Now, that's light years better than last year, but still light years away from pushing .350. No, to get 6 players hitting .300 would push Pierre and Jones into that .350 as well. certainly walker and barrett wouldn't drag them down that much. I find the kool-aid reference quite offensive by the way. why add that - does it somehow contribute to your argument or is it just meant to irk me?

    the point is obviously not that going to arbitration helps the team win. the point is that the MacPhail management team is very good at avoiding arbitration but not very good at putting great teams on the field.

    you think he can save 44 games with an ERA of almost five? the cubs better get him some big leads if those numbers are going to happen. I would think with an ERA around 5 he will have 7 or 8 losses and maybe 35 saves. The Cubs could have 4-6 .300 hitters if those two meet those projections. If that happens, the team OBP should push .350. I would like to see that very much.

    who wants to see him to a longer deal? not me.

    or trade him for a starter. I don't think his contract is dependent on his performance - what he will do is well known. its pie's performance that will dictate pierre's extension and perhaps murton's performance.

    ohman signed for 610k today. oddly they didn't split the difference. I think he's worth a fifth of eyre - probably even a fifth of vodka.

    I think we need to wait and see if he actually can be a major league shortstop. things look good right now, but . . .

    I think many people from both ends of the spectrum questioned that move. I wouldn't have added him.

    After reading all this, I think the cubs should trade high on pie if they can get a top hitter for him.

    it's a pet peeve of mine, that's all. i'm no definitive expert on college basketball, but i know enough about the BT, and wisco (being a current resident and all) to be offended when someone asks me that question. tucker's just not a back-to-the-basket player. he's an inside-out guy, similar to roger powell, but with more skill and less power. he gets his points driving into the lane, shotting from mid-range, and exploiting mismatches down on the blocks. randle is not a mismatch. i'm predicting 10 points from tucker tonight. if i'm wrong, i'll face up. Sorry, if I came across snippy there. Wasn't my intent. I was just pumped about the game and wanted to talk some basketball. I agree that he doesn't play excusively with his back to the basket but he does post up about as much as anyone else on the team. Then again, basketball isn't really my strong suit when it comes to sports. So I could be wrong. 10 points it is! If he scores under 20 then I'll come back and eat my crow as well. God, I hope it's not 10 points. That would be really really bad for Wisconsin's chances of winning. Looks like you both lose!

    I think the Thome move was a good one for the Sox. If Jim is healthy, that offense got a lot better. Why not play for a run of WS wins? Rowand isn't really that much to lose.

    I read moneyball in about three hours! I really think the cubs need some counter-balance to this approach. Though I like it a lot better for pitchers than hitters.
