  1. You know who would be able to hit well with or without wind? Adam Dunn.
  2. make me your best offer.
  3. what time was that on? I want to watch the speedskating but I have to scan through a lot of crap to find it.
  4. can someone explain edward K for the clueless?
  5. idea - start a US soccer thread and let this one be about the olympics.
  6. That's very optimistic. When I compare Sheets to any of the Cubs starters I find that Prior, Wood, and Zambrano are all better. Prior and Zambrano by a substantial margin. To me, a healthy Wood is also substantially better. Only Sheets 2003 puts him an elite class and that year looks anomalous at this point.
  7. Or injury prone players falling apart: Izzy, Carp, Spivey, etc. I was lumping that with luck since it largely can't be controlled. Rolen's health is really the key. If he doesn't come back strong, they could be considerably weaker at three infield positions. Edmonds also needs to continue to produce. I would protect them to win 95ish but the possiibility of collapse is there.
  8. I don't think anyone really disagrees with him. The only reason the Cards won't win the Central will be luck.
  9. the important thing is I won an argument regarding the location of Howelsen Hill - featured in the Exxon ad with the Yampa Valley in the background.
  10. wasn't jump the WGN intro in 1985? Wow that season sucked. It could've been as well, but I have the '84 clincher against Pitt. and the WGN intro has "Jump" as the intro. maybe it was 1984. I wonder what happened to old murph and his chip off the old block?
  11. oh thank God!
  12. so in an hour we'll only be on Hungary?
  13. wasn't jump the WGN intro in 1985? Wow that season sucked.
  14. Didn't catch that. Get ready for a steady dose of 80's music! :phones: no kidding on the music though some of it is 70s! the Argentines all looked italian.

  18. she learned in minnesota! http://www.nbcolympics.com/athletes/5057032/detail.html?ib_oll=Headline so there is hope for you! The average downhiller is 230 so there is hope for me.
  19. wow, this guy needs to wear a coat that doesn't match his hair. its quite disturbing. the alpine setting is phenomenal. Wish I was there.
  20. so, since the Red Sox have won 1 world series in 87 years, they are a much better franchise and can justify raising ticket prices? What is felony assault on their fans? I would think EVERYONE would stop cheering for a team if they were assaulted by management. I think you are a bit hysterical in your interpretation. No, the cubs aren't run for their fans. No, the cubs management is not going out of their way to screw the fans. oh wait, you're not listening anyway.
  21. that they are whiny, small and generally insignificant. or perhaps Disneyland.
  22. The olympics are the ultimate Tivo event.
  23. and what it says is "he's no lock" - I'm not sure where you got fall apart and can't hit.
  24. I think the BP article said it. 32 is the typical end of a players prime years. Obviously some players fall apart faster than others. Certain types of players also have been shown to retain their skills better than others.
  25. I think it will be a hitters park June-August and a pitchers park April, May and September/Oct. The wind and warm weather are going to play some interesting tricks on that park. It does look like it's going to be an amazing place. I think that's a competitive disadvantage - I would prefer a park that consistently plays either for hitters or pitchers so you can mold a team to that park. This is of course from a Cubs fan whose team plays in one of the worst stadiums in terms of variability. I agree. But It's a double edged sword. If you have a bandbox then you can't get decent pitchers (Coors) or a pitchers haven, you have trouble getting hitters (Detroit till they moved the fences). This year will be interesting. I don't believe anyone will really know how far off neutral the new park is for a while. And you're right, Wrigley can play really small or really big depending on what the lake is doing. I thought someone had done a study showing that pitchers parks were generally favorable to building winning teams versus hitters parks. In a bandbox, I am wondering if the Astros have developed the right formula with a pitching dominated team. On the other hand, they were doing just fine in the Astrodome too (showing that having good players is more important than what kind of park you have). Just so long as I never have to watch the mid-80s Cardinals ever again!
