  1. Apparently he needs more wins. Right. I guess those three straight years of at least 130 ERA+ don't matter, especially when the only starters to have accomplished this from 2003-05 were him and Santana. I'll stop attempting to hijack this thread now. If Zambrano pitched for the Yankees or Red Sox he would lead Sportscenter every time he pitched. He is a special talent. He and Lee are the 2 most important players for the Cubs. I'd say Z may be the most important. Kind of sad when the cards fan is the only one with any hope for this team. Saying Z isn't elite is ridiculous. He has had the three best consecutive years of any cubs starter since WWII
  2. that's it - I'm moving back to California to be an A's fan!
  3. we need some hitters. they are so much more reliable. I have zero confidence in Guzman. Pawelek has so far to come still.
  4. Bad luck isn't why these types of injuries occur. The trauma injuries with Giles as well as the liner off the elbow=bad luck. Wood's many injuries as well as the previous elbow/heel problems and now shoulder problem of Prior happen for a reason, failing to find out where the breakdown occured will only lead to further breakdowns as well as chalking it up to bad luck. 2003
  5. this may not just ruin this season, this could be the end of his career. I know that's jumping the gun but back of shoulder pain in a pitching shoulder is not good. not good at all. though rotator cuff is probably better than labrum.
  6. yes, and the cubs will get 60 starts from wood and prior . . .

    ugh

I feel sick. back of the shoulder pain is very very bad. I'd rather his elbow hurt.
  8. game of the tournament so far . . .I better get home.
  9. pay through NSBB - either send a check to Tim or use Paypal.
  10. doing the girlfriend does not equal whipped!
  11. There is some sort of limited no-trade that I believe kicks in April 1, but I don't know the exact language. There seems to be little interest in Walker around the big leagues right now. IMO, teams know that Jim wants Walker off his team and why would anyone overpay for him given that. I like what Walker brings to the offense but his mouth is more than he's worth. When has his mouth ever cost the team games? 54% of the losses in the past 3 years have been due to a chemical deficiency. If they finally get rid of all the bad guys they will win, but not until then. The fun thing is we don't know who the bad guys are going to be until management draws up that offseason's must-dump list. I thought I just read that team chemistry was at an all-time high?

  13. I think its pretty common for pitchers to throw an overwhelming number of fastballs early in spring training - if the pitch isn't overwhelming, they may get hit hard early. another great reason to ignore ST stats.
  14. Lee sat one game because it was teixeira's turn to start. and yes, he would have dove for that ball at HoHoKam.
  15. wow, you aren't watching are you? Or are you just so cynical that you can't appreciate how great the competition has been?
  16. I disagree - in an eight game tourney you play who is hot. this is no marathon - teixeira will have a nice season but he is not good right now. From what I read, the US needs to beat Mexico AND have Japan lose again to advance. Not sure I understand that since I thought head to head was the first tiebreaker. maybe that's to be certain of advancing.
  17. Thats probably close to Opening Day if you insert Lee and Barrett. The Cubs really hate Walker don't they? I cannot possibly see why they would add Graffanino - couldn't Theriot, Fontenot or Hairston equal his production?
  18. this one seems out of hand - thanks for the pbp though.
  19. in five short years he'll be a grossly overpriced free agent!
  20. I saw it on sportscenter - high pop up right down the line barely cleared the fence.
  21. For those who dont know, it's been on ESPN alternate. I get alternate but it hasn't been on.
  22. like in the 9th yesterday>? exactly, and the US won!
  23. it would be helpful if ARod got a hit or two.
  24. It's the 5th inning, we have 2 on and one out. All is not lost. Yeah, but runs allowed is the first tiebreaker. Maybe I've just been a Cubs fan too long? one of the teams has to go 0-3 for that to matter.
