  1. Ha, I could see a pathetic organization like the Cubs going after a stop-gap solution like Sheffield vs. getting a long term solution like Soriono.
  2. If they pass on Giardi they will be hearing from me at the covention. They can bet on that.
  3. BullS*** that he never got in. So stupid.
  4. Well I'm sure they could fare better than the 01' squad. I hate to use the term "fluke", but alot of things bounced their way in 01. Alot of things.
  5. Apples and Oranges in terms of the type of player. Crawford may not have as high as slugging% as Carbera, but is Carbera gonna swipe 50+ bases and play gold glove defense. I'd still take Cabera first, but Crawford isn't that far off. I'll take the .998 OPS OF rather than the .840 OF who steals bases by a huge margin - and to think Crawford isn't that far off, you must not be able to pass a urine test. Disgruntled Cubs Fan = Dusty Baker stan - "love that speed dude" Its unfortunate you can't debate your point without personal insults. How old are you?
  6. I begining to think Nomar was on something. Maybe a lean mass product.

  8. I think he needs to realize that as a MLB pitcher, you are not going to feel 100% all of the time. You will have aches and pains that you have to pitch through. That being said, no way can you get rid of him now. I'm hoping he can get on a hot streak again(like 2003) and increase his trade value for someone like Miguel Cabrera or Carl Crawford.
  9. THe longer you wait to hire your manager, the more likley you are to have garabage assistants. Kranitz wants to follow Girardi, but how long can he turn down an open offer from Gonzales?
  10. Wow. Alot of mediocre players are going to get extremely overpaid this offseason.
  11. The meat of the talent was in that young rotation. (part of the reason I want Girardi is so we can get Kranitz too) The infield was solid, but his outfield was very bad production wise.
  12. Beware. People are going to argue that those inexperienced players flourished all by themselvles and the influence of Girardi had no effect whatsoever on fostering their development.
  13. Talent aside. Myers is scum. I certainly don't want him in a Cubs uni. I would jump on Jennings in a heartbeat. I don't understand why Colorado would dump him, he is only making 4.5 mil
  14. Indians | Update: Westbrook's option Tue, 3 Oct 2006 16:02:40 -0700 Updating a previous report, Anthony Castrovince, of Indians.MLB.com, reports the Cleveland Indians picked up the $6.1 million option on SP Jake Westbrook for next season. I was really hoping the Indians would not pick this up. I wanted to Cubs to purue him. Westbrook would be a great signing as a #3-#4 type starter. I didn't even notice they picked up his option on tuesday, crap, crap, crap.
  15. If Wale isn't 100% I hope he is smart and doesn't try to force anything. Idonoje/Anderson can holt the fort down for a game.
  16. But wouldn't an overhaul of the minor leauge system lead to those young players that Minnesota has? And wouldn't a team with young studs cost a lot less than 100M worth of mediocrity? Wouldn't a team of young studs that were contenders draw in more money than 100M team that goes 66-96? And frankly, any decision to overhaul the minor league system should come from the GM or head of minor league development. And taking such a decision out of Hendry or Fleita's hands would be undermining them. The only person I have faith in is Wilken. (regarding the farm system)
  17. I dont' view it as undermining them. The whole deal of harrasment of the broadcasters was a black eye to the organization. It had to be dealt with somehow.
  18. I started an office fantasy FF league this year. I regret every minute of it. It is seriously the dullest league I have ever been involved in. Not one single trade has gone down...BETWEEN ANYONE! I am not lying. Seriously. I have prososed dozens of trades, heck I have even put 1/2 my team on the trading block. Funny thing is I'm in second place. I'm just not that happy with alot of parts of my team and I love to shake things up. Wouldn't you think those in last place would put alot of their players up trying to shake things up for themslves! just had to vent! Has anyone been frustrated with a boring league?
  19. I will give them credit for allowing a 90+ million dollar payroll. And yes Hendry did screw the pooch in that regard. Beleive me he should be gone as well. However I do have issues with ownership not giving the extra $$$ to get players when it is needed. The only time when thay have authorized an expanced budget is when the oppurtunity to sign Maddux presented itself. (I have a source on this, a late night board of directors meeting was called to approve his contract) After the 04 season when we needed a complete remake of our outfield, the Tribune company refused ante up in the Beltran sweepstakes. Probably because of eathing the Sosa $$$. When the fans needed them to step up they didn't. I have also stated my gripes regarding the ticket scams. No need to go back there. How about the stunt pulled with the rooftop owners a few years back? Just immaturity from them. I also go back to the issue when you had players attacking broadcasters. The manager wouldn't do nothing. The GM wouldn't. At some point doesn't some type of leadership have to step in to stop this? Don't think for a minute that they really care one way or not whether the team is competitive. Its all about bottom lime to them. They care about attendence, not winning. We have to draw a line there. Outside of September, the Cubs were darn near selling out every game. They saw the dropoff in Sept. and while part of it could be due to school back in session, they noticed dis-interest by the fans at the gate. They will do what they need to do to spark interest. Expect a big signing of one of these Soriono C. Lee Daisuke Ztio Combine that with some good marketing this offseason and the gates wil be packed in April. And as long as that $$$ is coming in no one in that compnay cares about wins or losses. No One. If they did you would see things such as an overhaul of the minor league system. Not that I don't think there are some fine arms down there, because there are. But there needs to be some changes regarding training staffs, and general instruction of fundmentals. Look at young players coming out of Atlanta, Minnesotta...then look at the Cubs...it is night and day.
  20. Maybe he is, or maybe its just an act. He is a salesman first and foremost. Let's not forget that. At this point I have 0 trust for anyone associated with the Tribune compnay So a marketing exec from another team would've been a better choice? Someone that didn't have the stink of the Tribune company, is what I would have peferered. Just my opinion. I'm not feeling this guy.
  21. Whatever candidate gets the job It would benefit them to realize that Jimbo's favorite pastime is bidding against himself. They stand to cash in big time.

  23. Great Freakin avatar! http://www.sportsnet.ca/images/mlb/fla/girardi_vert.jpg
  24. He must have tanked the whole bottle judging by his play in center field tonight.
  25. CF? That could get ugly.
