  1. No softballs to any of the guests tonight.... I hope.
  2. Winning is a relative term in todays National League
  3. I'd throw the name out Girardi out there but unfortunetly I'm the only one on the board who thinks Joe deserves credit for fostering the development of the young players down there, and bringing out their "talents" So IMO, there are managers that can bring out the best in players. Joe is one. Brenly I see as a guy who needs established talented vets to succeed.
  4. You just answered your own question there. He can win, when he has talent. Alot of managers can do that.
  5. Yikes, anyone know a way to record this aside from tapes? I'd like to record this for later listening on a long trip I am taking. . Will there be an intersection between Girardi and McDonough or will they move from one straight to the other I wonder?
  6. Hendry might not hire him because there are better candidates. While I'd prefer Girardi to some candidates, he hasn't done much to distinguish himself in my opinion. A control freak is not a good thing. What has Buck Showalter won? IMO, I think Showalter is a combo of a control freak/jerk in general. You can be strict, yet still gain players respect. I haven't heard anything about players dis-liking Girardi. It may have come out and I missed it though. So many years of bad fundemantels have been really soaked in on this team, I think you have no choice but to go in a direction like Girardi.
  7. Girardi was put on this earth to manage the Cubs. http://www.sportsnet.ca/images/mlb/fla/girardi_vert.jpg No nonsense. Perform. A freakin dictator. That is what I want. If Hendry doesn't hire him it is because he is a coward and afraid Girardi won't kiss his feet and bow to him.
  8. Guys will stand up for Dusty because he gives them a free pass and no-one is held accountable. Hell if I had a boss that let me do whatever, defended me no matter what I would love the guy too.
  9. I disagree strongly. Tribune wants to win! Why wouldn't they? If you win it's a money windfall. They just don't have a clue how to win. Yep. Winning brings a boatload of revenue. Corporate committees like revenue. 66-96 managed to bring in a boatload of revenue this year. Who needs winning?
  10. Despite his solid season, Eyre's "man love" of Dusty has really made me dislike the guy.
  11. Donuts is gonna get mugged at the convention if he passes on Girardi.
  12. I think some people owe you an apology the way they came down on you with their "Holier than though" attittude.
  13. Son of a %$# :x Anyone that thinks that the problem with the Cubs is Tribune ownership just doesn't get it. get what? explain yourself? I dont' care if they authorized a 90+ million dollar payroll. They have no interest in brining in compentant leadership that will spend it wisely. They have also been terrible managing the leadership/vision of the farm system.
  14. Book the tickets to Miami now.
  15. Here Here. Drink a Beer to that!
  16. I haven't seen this posted yet. God Bless the NFL.
  17. wow.... I agree. Great Post by JeffH. Summed up the complete essense of Failure in 7 words. Actually, I find that post to be embarrassing to this site. Thats is your opinion which is cool. But there are a ton of Cub fans that are completely over the edge, becuase the fact is managment has not been respectful of Cub fans. What got me oldcubfan was this. No apology this season. They could have came out and said: We let the fans down, and we apologize. I never heard that, so I can't respect them. true, everyone is entiled to an opinion, and some ppl will not agree, but "sweater vest wearing piece of garbage".....from what i hear he is a good guy, very charitable and stuff like that....please dont ask me to show proof, i've heard stuff he does on the radio....call him "a sweater vest wearing poor excuse for a ......." it does him no good to question a man's character on this or any board.....this, of course, is MY opinion Cool. I wont' go as far the "sweater vest" comment, but he will always be "Failure" to me. He let down my Grandma, a diehard Cub fan her whole life who sadly never got to see a winner.

  20. I hope people seriously don't considering giving respect to McF.ail just because of his resignation. He has basically spit in the face of Cubs fans over the past decade. This is the same man that presided an organization that seemed more focused on shunning rooftop owners and scalping their own tickets than building a sucessful organization. Andy, hang you head in shame. Your last name is so fitting of your tenure here. Failure. Adios.
  21. but, but, but, OBP isn't important..look at Oakland they are only 7th in the AL in OBP! http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/aggregate?statType=batting&group=7&seasonType=2&type=type1&sort=onBasePct&split=0&season=2006 See Jim was right! It's right there ^^^
  22. I'm just gonna order my Cubs 2007 WS champions shirt right now. Its in da bag.
  23. Good point..emotions are bad. hmm how bout this guy http://www.djfl.de/entertainment/stars/c/chuck_norris.jpg
  24. Any Sox fans post here? I'd figured someone would have taken the bait by now.
