  1. Honestly I just knew nothing about him. He may very well be a good option. If he could be had real cheap maybe you could even sign him AND Zito and try and consolidate some of out young pitchers to get an even better young player. same here.. i know nothing about him
  2. yah, you really think hes getting run out of town??
  3. The problem with Hendry is even though he takes the blame, he doesn't learn from his mistakes. He'll say stuff like "Obvisly, the Tribune Company give me a big enough budget, I just need to spend the money better", then he turns around and signs someone like Jock Jones as his big bat offensive player for 3 years.Jones was the best OF available this last year... and was looking for a multi-yr deal. I believe the phrase "the tallest midget" is appropos regarding Jones in the FA market. Sometimes doing nothing is better than doing something-Corey Patterson could have played in the OF this year for half the cost of Jones. He might have been horrible, but it wouldn't have made a difference because this team was going to be bad regardless. And they could have gone after a better player via trade or FA this offseason. Oh sorry. I forgot about him.. this is not a sarcastic post... I really did forget about him
  4. If Kerry needs surgery, they should ask him to wait and put him in the bullpen until they are mathematically eliminated this year. After that he can have the surgery and be ready by spring training next year. thats what they did last year..so no... just convert him permenantly or cut him
  5. would be nice.. but ARod cant catch the ball right now.
  6. this is not true..he is helping guys like Marmol and Marshall. If he is traded he wont be able to help them learn. Is there any quanitative proof that he is helping them? of course not. the best thing he could do for the cubs' young pitchers is to leave and let them have his spot in the rotation. hill's going to win 300 games in AAA before he ever gets another shot at this rate. betchya nething if Maddux wasnt a Cub early in the year... Marshall wont not be 3-3 right now.. but rather he'd be down in AAA and we would have traded for another starter
  7. Anyone thing hes unhappy here?? I dont.. just want to know what you think.

The Cubs need to do much, much more than this. This is a team with so many holes they can't easily be counted. I realize that.. but these are the biggest three holes.
  9. They are just as ready as the pitchers that you are so concerned about that we gave up for Pierre. The ones who aren't RIGHT now like Gallagher, Ryu, Wells, maybe Guzman could be ready sometime next year. If we sign a FA pitcher your rotation is Zambrano Zito/Schmit/etc Marshall(ready) Hill(ready) Marmol(ready) Sixth Man/Bonus- Prior(could still be All Star Caliber) On the Cusp- Guzman, Gallagher, Ryu, Wells. A strong spring training like Marshall any of these guys could make a run at the last 3 rotation spots. The popular view seems to be to go for it all in 2007. I think while possible it makes more sense to aim for 2008. You can still be active this offseason and aquire guys who will help in 2007, but also make sure that they'll be aoround for the long haul. Any extra spots should be used on young players, trying to find out who may a piece for a real run in 2008. Any spot where a young guy doesnt emerge, you can fill via FA the next offseason. Right now we have enough pitchers to work with and try to find a couple keepers. You can't say the same about position players so theres no reason to shy away from aquiring some top position players this trade deadline. And you are leaving Miller out.
  10. hu?He wants Rich Hill on the MLB team and not sent down every time he stinks it up. Well maybe with the trade of Williamson he will get his wish
  11. this is not true..he is helping guys like Marmol and Marshall. If he is traded he wont be able to help them learn.
  12. Like I said in other threads.. I dont think we should trade Maddux unless we are blown away with a deal that will out value Maddux's future value to the franchise and I dont think we should trade Blanco because he is one of the better backup catchers in the game. I dont care who he is holding up... he is one of the better proven backup catchers in the game. Now for the new names that you brought up. We should trade Walker, Nevin, and Novoa for some prospects... or if possible one very good proven major leaguer. I dont think we will be able to trade Neifi or Rusch.. so just DFA them. Do the same with Williams. As for Jones, I dont think anyone will take him with 2 years on his contract and I dont want to pull off another So-so deal and pay him to play elsewhere for two years. Now that Williamson is gone... we should call Theriot back up and see what he can do (I know there is a 10 day rule) so wait the 10 days and then call him back up for the remainder of the season. 40 man Roster- Pitchers: Aardsma Dempster Eyre Howry Miller ---- we are all forgetting that he is still rehabing... and should be ready by next year to help out in the rotation. Guzman Maddux ---- if he is not traded and doesnt retire Hill Marmol Marshall Ohman Wuertz Prior The Z man (as if you dont know who I mean) Wells Gallagher Catchers: Barrett Blanco Soto Infielders: Lee Ramirez Cedeno Theriot Moore Dopriak Patterson Mabry Outfielders: Pierre Pie Murton Jones Still 9 open spots. Ill get to those later. SP: The Z man Marshall Maddux Miller Marmol / Guzman / Prior / Hill RP: Aardsma Dempster Eyre Howry Ohman Wuertz Marmol / Guzman / Prior / Hill (only one of the three that are not in the rotation) C- Barrett 1B- Lee 2B- Theriot SS- Cedeno 3B- Ramirez LF- Murton CF- Pierre (if he isnt traded and returns) RF- Jones (if he isnt traded or DFAed) Bench- Blanco, Pie, Mabry, PROSPECT or FA That would be the roster if Maddux, Blanco and others who could be traded are back in 07 and the Cubs trade others for prospects. But this would leave 9 open spots on the 40 man roster... I will add 3 in the case some of the guys I mentioned retire or go elsewhere. So now to the 2007 FA Crop: We need a top of the rotation type guy who doesnt have an injury history... so I say do everything you can to get Zito. For a back up middle infielder I would go after Clayton or Counsell. Maybe even try to get both. For center field... I say bring back Pierre.. but if he goes elsewhere we need to get Lofton or Hunter and Cameron or Matthews Jr. For left we should bring Mr. Carlos Lee home... and bench Murton or trade him. We need a power hitting outfielder. As there was with WrgleyField 22's ideas.. there is a lot of assuming going on here. Here is my 2007 Cubs 40 man Roster: Notes: ^ = 25 man roster Pitchers: Aardsma Guzman Hill Wells Zito^ Dempster^ Eyre^ Howry^ Miller^ Marmol^ Marshall^ Ohman^ Wuertz^ Prior^ The Z man^ Maddux^ Catchers: Barrett^ Blanco^ Soto Infielders: Lee^ Ramirez^ Cedeno^ Theriot^ Moore Dopriak Patterson Clayton^ Counsell^ Mabry^ Outfielders: Pierre^ Pie^ Murton^ Jones^ Matthews Jr.^ Cameron^ Lee^ I know there are more the 25 on the 25 man roster that I proposed.. but thats because we are not going to have all the guys that I suggested.
  13. Some are saying that Hill and Guzman should be traded.... others are saying to trade Marshall and/or Marmol.... with that in mind I want pitching for Pierre... because we may not get pitching for any of those guys. the bottom line is all of those pitchers you listed are not ready for the big scene yet.....honestly I just feel that with our pitching problems and the slim FA Market of pitchers we should get pitchin if we trade Pierre or any of our pitchers... because we can find a center fielder easily in the FA Crop. and then call up Theriot be lead off and play second.
  14. You were smart to switch the channel. they sucked!!! Can we for the life of the baseball gawd, please FAST FORWARD this season to the end. This blows. I think that would be nice... but it wont happen till they make history with the WORST record in franchise history.
  15. Randy Wells. A converted catcher who is having a great season at AA and now AAA. He should probably rank between 10 and 20 in the Cubs top prospects. His best asset is his control, he has an 88-92 mph FB, plus change and average slider. ah i see... so he is the next Marmol???? Marmol has much better stuff...and worse control. Also, Wells isn't on the 40-man roster as of now. well..same idea tho cause Marmol is a converted catcher.
  16. yes.. he missed time after the collision
  17. If I recall correctly he missed his next start or was taken out of that game after the collision.. Acctually in an incredibly foolish move by Baker and the Cubs they let Prior go out and pitch several innings after the the collision with Giles and then only later in the game took him out. and then he missed his next start right?
  18. You were smart to switch the channel. they sucked!!!
  19. If we are getting more in return than his future value... I would be fine with it.. but I because of his record we wont be able to get much......... thats why I dont want to trade him
  20. With this injury, I bet they call up Hill or Guzman. Then if Prior get hurt again or Maddux gets traded they will call up Wuertz and make Rusch a starter
  21. Novoa Sucks, Williamson should be saving games for a contender because he wants to be a closer and is unhappy in Chicago and I am sorry but Wuertz isnt anything special either, IMO. Also, Aardsma deservers a chance..I am willing to give this guy a little bit more time.
