  1. Couldn't we have swapped Barrett for Linebrink or one of their other good relievers straight up and just brought up Soto?
  2. This is effing hilarious
  3. No PPV offering. I have the premium package, and I like the Mosaic feature a lot. I think it's worth it, especially when the Cubs aren't on or when you've got nothing to do and want to watch some baseball. It's great.
  4. Well the difference between Bonds being walked all the time and Pujols being walked all the time is that if you went ahead and pitched to Bonds, he could probably smack out 70HR again (well maybe not now, but in recent years past), and people continually throw to Pujols and he hasn't yet reached 50. Plus it's not like people don't walk him, he draws lots of walks, I'm sure a lot of them are unintentional intentional walks, despite the fact that he's been in the Top 5 in IBB in the past few years. Plus he was sucking really bad early on this year, so I probably would've thrown to him as well. When he starts hitting 15-20 dingers a month like he was doing last year I'm sure they'll start IBB'ing him more often, wouldn't be surprised if they start doing that more often sooner than later
  5. I didn't think you did, I was just questioning why it's officially Rule 5 why people say Rule V is wrong when it's the same damn thing.
  6. I posted it in another thread a few days ago... As of June 13th (when I originally wrote it) His average and OBP is low, but is consistently in the Top 5 of most offensive categories for catchers in the NL. I don't think he's doing that awful on offense. Defense is another story, but offensively he's not as terrible as people are making him out to be. Compared to what great hitters should be, yeah, he's terrible, but think about the position he plays and what the other catchers in the league are doing. He's above average in that regard offensively. I think that = a good bargaining chip
  7. Did you mean to say reputable? And from what I've heard/read, there have been no sources of Griffey to the Cubs that I know about. Did find these articles, though, relevant or not: link link - No real speculation, just talks about Griffey and his good season and whether or not they should trade Dunn or Griffey
  8. You must have missed his, "Im Jake Peavy, do you know who I am"? I cant remember the rest of what happened but I know Raisin does. Well, with all due respect, Mobile is a small city in comparison, and Jake Peavy is somewhat of a local celebrity/hero since he was born and raised here. I'm sure anyone who has any sort of celebrity in that situation likely would've said the same thing, or at least some variation of it, like "You know, I play baseball for the Padres" or something like that. He was in a hurry to catch a plane and an airport officer told him he had to park his car first and he told the cop to go ahead and ticket him and he'd pay for it, and instead threw him in jail, from what I remember. I'm assuming the "I'm Jake Peavy" came somewhere between "Put your hands behind your back" and *click*
  9. I bet he wouldn't be all that bad. He seems like a pretty articulate guy. I'll take him over Brenly. I like Brenly. He reminds me of my Dad, in that "I'm old but I'm gonna try and act young and hip in front of the kids" kind of way. Plus he will always be quoted by me for saying "Danks and Durbin in Detroit... DUH!" Back on topic though, it's nice to see that from players, especially Wood. At least he's doing something productive this year. What's the latest on his playing time status?
  10. What difference does it make if they both mean the same thing? Are there imbeciles out there actually pronouncing it "Rule Vee Draft"?
  11. He supposedly takes (or has taken) grounders at first base during BP and wants to play at least one inning in the outfield in his career. He really is that crazy. Don't forget he can throw some heat left-handed, too. He's got two arms to blow out if he still wants to pitch
  12. Touché, nice stat
  13. Anemic? His OPS places is 7th best among AL rightfielders. It's nothing special, obviously, but to say it's anemic is just flat out wrong. He'll be traded for more than what we dumped him for. Yeah, you're right. I didn't know that stat, but still, a .762OPS for a Sammy Sosa who everyone thinks is "back" isn't that impressive. Will he win comeback player of the year? Probably, but he's not doing anything incredible at the moment. But at the same time, I'd definitely entertain the idea of trading for him at the dead line if we need a RF still and can't get better available options, I can't imagine he'd be too difficult to obtain in terms of pieces we'd have to part with so he could be a bargain. EDIT: The whole notion of being a Cub fan and discussing a trade for Sammy Sosa and thinking we could get a good deal on him just feels weird
  14. You can tack on Cy Youngs 749 complete games to the list
  15. I think he gets traded as well. And as much as I love his HR and RBI production this year, the very weak sabrematrician in me can't ignore his anemic OPS. If he is traded, he shouldn't be traded for much more than what we traded him for
  16. I get what you're saying, but I did say that it's a small sample size. If the pitchers he catches make a couple more starts and dominate with him behind the plate then my conspiracy theory brain is going to continue make these asanine assumptions (not joking, I know my opinions are weird)
  17. Well with the exception of Zambrano's no-hit bid heatbreaker yesterday, the only game the Cubs have lost with Hill starting behind the plate was because Will Ohman is a piece of trash who can't keep opponents off the bases. With a little run support yesterday and Ohman not sucking, Hill would have an unblemished 7-0 record with pitchers he has caught when he starts. Starters have yet to give up more than 3ER in a game with Hill behind the plate, and the only person to give up 3ER in a game was Marquis. He's also caught Hill (1ER in 1G), Marshall (3ER in 2G), and Zambrano (3ER in 3G). Yeah, it's a small sample size, but it makes Barrett's ability somewhat suspect in my opinion. Of course Barrett catching Hill makes sense now that I think about it because in Barrett's radio interview the other day he said that of all the pitchers on the staff he only knows of Rich Hill looking over tape looking for hitter tendancies, he says all otherp itchers rely on him to look at the tape. So if both of them look at the tape then they should have a good idea of what to expect. I admit you guys are right and Hill probably just had a bad outing, and sure Barrett should probably deserve some credit when pitchers throw a gem, but it's just seems a bit more than a coincidence that when Koyie Hill catches, the Cubs pitchers tend to throw better than they would with Barrett behind the plate.
  18. if anyone will break Henderson's record, it's Jose Reyes, and he's on a blazing pace right now, and he's still not going to come close. Henderson averaged about 18 stolen bases a month the year he stole 130. I had a friend who said the reason he was able to steal so many bases then was because pitchers had yet to grow accustomed to a side step approach and all pitchers used a wind-up. Is that even true? It sounds far-fetched, but I wasn't even born then to know EDIT: I was looking at Baseball-Reference wrong, he averaged well over 20 a month
  19. . Last I checked I asked what was wrong with him and if he was tipping his pitches, two of 4 concerned questions that had to deal with blame on Rich Hill. He was hit HARD today. Got 9 outs in his 3IP, 2 were ground outs, he struck out Maddux, he rest of the outs were deep fly ball outs that weren't lazy pop flies or miss swings, they were hit HARD, like they knew what to expect from Rich Hill. Of his 5 hits given up, 4 were extra base hits, 3 were home runs. And most of the pitches I can recall being hit hard weren't all up in the zone, some were low, some were away, some were in, some were up, they hit them all, curveball or not I was just asking a questions. Yeah, I'm fed up with Barrett lately, as I'm sure a lot of folks are at this point, so I voiced my frustrations in the line I said. If Barrett was doing well as a catcher I probably would've just said "Was Barrett making bad pitch selections?" and no one would've thought anything serious of it. I fluffed it up with some anger cause I'm not digging Barrett at the moment, especially since Koyie Hill has done some great things with the pitching staff since he's been here
  20. Okay, chock it up to rich hill just sucking really bad today. Sorry. I'll try not to ask anymore questions for the duration of my time on this forum
  21. http://wrigleyville23.blogspot.com/search/label/Andre%20Dawson
  22. Hey now, I'm just throwing it out there. There had to be an explanation for Hill sucking so bad today
  23. What the hell was wrong with him today? Did Maddux clue the team in on something? Was he tipping his pitches? EVERYONE hit Hill hard today, it was inexplicable. Could it have been because Barrett is an awful defensive catcher and sucks at setting up pitches?
  24. 511 wins. It will never be topped, and personally I think it should be considered as a seperate record. The dead-ball era was interesting, and considering pitchers pitched between 40-50 games a year, I think it'd kind of ridiculous to consider it a breakable record in todays era. I think there should be a modern era record, personally. And since in this modern era of 5-man rotations and typical maximum of 35 games a season which very few pitchers fulfill, if anyone DOES break that record, they will be the 2nd coming of Cy Young himself, since they'd have to win nearly 30 games for the majority of his career to break it. If someone won 30 games a year for 17 years straight, they'd still be 1 win shy of Young's record.
  25. Tell me this isn't real. I almost voted for that one. I bet a 4th grader came up with it
