  1. Why do all the reports that talk about the Cubs not being able to take on his $12.5 million a year salary fail to mention the fact he only gets paid $6 million a year because the rest is deferred?
  2. Didn't Guillen get thrown out for excessive arguing, not so much for what he was saying, just spending too much time arguing? And also, did those morons not realize Uribe interfered with Pagan? I watched the game yesterday before the wedding I had to go to and WGN had them on there and I just about shot myself in the head listening to those two dolts blather on.
  3. I don't really consider this a salary dump as much as I consider it a talent dump (or lack thereof). Considering Jacque's numbers last year, he was well worth the $3M he made. This is why he should've been dumped in the offseason to someone looking for a lefty corner outfielder while his numbers were looking as good as his contract did after Soriano signed
  4. Didn't ESPN also report Maddux signed with the Yankees and even threw up a graphic of Maddux in a Yankees uni on the front page before he signed with the Cubs? I had heard about that, but did not see it. Also, I like Stark and Gammons. Everyone else is meh
  5. That's why I'm advocating a trade to Atlanta. I don't think the Braves will re-sign him which at least gives the Cubs a shot at him. If we send him to the Mets or Angels, I'm fairly certain they'd ink him to a long-term deal. Didn't Ponson do that with the O's? If the Cubs are out of it at the break, I'd have a nice sit down with Z and let him know they're going to trade him, but want to sign him back in the offseason. I wonder if Z would be game for that?
  6. Is it common for someone to strain their oblique? Seems like there's been a dozen of thosei njuries this year, and they've ranged from day-to-day to a few weeks off on the 15 Day DL
  7. We've started a lovely trend, it seems
  8. Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh... my bad, didn't realize. *punches himself in the nuts*
  9. Must've been nice to have run support in Detroit for Maroth. Kind of difficult to spin a 5-2 record with a 5.06ERA and 1.66WHIP. Chances are he'll become the ace in St. Louis
  10. He doesn't make that much. I don't think he could afford the gas. I know that's a figure of speech, but I'd kill to ride the pine and never play baseball ever if it meant I got MLB league minimum salary.
  11. *COUGH* Alfonso Soriano *COUGH*
  12. But to be fair, he gets results from his garbage vets. Hendry doesn't. Jockety isn't the one on the field telling a slumping player to widen his stance, or telling struggling pitchers to change their release point. He hired a good staff, and they should take credit for turning crap into diamonds. All Jockety did was put them on the roster.
  13. Quoting stuff from Rumor Central isn't really stealing pay service, all they are are rumors from public newspapers posted in one central location. And this doesn't say much of anything we don't already know
  14. Don't know if it was posted here or not...
  15. You guys do realize he's been on the DL 3 times this year already, right?
  16. Sammy Sosa? How much of a kick in the nuts would that be? "Congrats you hit your 600th home run against your long-time team who traded you for peanuts. We're trading you back for some more peanuts"

    SS Issues

Looks solid... but what does your pitching look like?
  18. My favorite part is that now cubs.com writes in ebonics. Shucks, that was a typo. Missed the "r". To think, if I had put that in there everyone would've bought it hook, line, and sinker. Damn
  19. Sounded more like he said "probably" as a precautionary measure. He talked about how he got off the roids rather firmly trhen seemed like he realized he said something dumb and backed it up with "probably"
  20. They're not going to fire an owner for saying that... let alone, how does one fire a baseball owner anyway? But he's a moron, most of his team was probably on steroids... if you're going to be pissed that you got ripped off by Juan Gone, than also be pissed off that the thoroughly-juicy Rafael Palmeiro put up HoF-caliber numbers for your team. Or that Pudge enhanced his power numbers with roids. Can probably throw Dean Palmer in there too. And those are just the more obvious ones. whoa. dean palmer. hadn't thought about that guy for a while. I was actually looking up his stats a few days ago. Forgot what for, though. That whole Rangers team was juiced. Lest we not forget the juiciest player of all, Jose Canseco, was on the team then
  21. It definitely adds future value. Assuming we would've gotten the draft pick for losing Barrett, it would've come in a similar spot to where Burke was taken just last year. Then we have control of Bowen for 3 more years after this year too. The question is really whether Bowen/Hill/Soto can be as good as Barrett for the remainder of the year. If they can, it's definitely a good trade considering we have Bowen beyond this year. If they don't, then it's personal preference how much the added asset beyond this year is worth the decline in production for the remainder of this year to determine how good/bad the deal is. That's a good point. I don't like it because I thought we could've gotten more for Barrett. But if Bowen turns out to help our pitching staff tenfold, then it seems okay. For now, I don't like it, we'll have to see how it pans out
  22. My vote for no just evened it up. We could've done much better. Bowen is not an outstanding hitter, but is above average defensively. Geovany Soto is hitting wel in AAA and is a above average defesnsive catcher according to various reports. Could've just swapped Barrett for a reliever we could've used and brought up Soto and be done with it
  23. Cardinals, easily, IMO
