  1. because the big ten wants their schedule to be done by thanksgiving and the pac 10 plays a larger conference schedule that goes into december during championship week. it's the big ten's fault. a lot of the big tens problems are their own creation. schedule tougher non conference games, lengthen the duration of the season, or add another team to get a championship game. this sets them up better for the layoff (making it shorter). really the big ten is stuck in the 1900s.
  2. every system crowns a champion.
  3. My point is given the top three teams or the field in the current setup you take the top three teams in any playoff (outside MAYBE a +1) you take the field. I understand your point, and agree. I just think, semantically, "worst" was a poor word choice. and that's why i chose the wording i did instead of something like "the playoff system would usually not crown one of the top three teams." as a fan though a playoff Cinderella is always fun and makes it entertaining. we have those already though.
  4. I'll go ahead and beat that poor, dead horse: We need a playoff to correct this stuff. A playoff will crown the one of the best two teams national champion less than the current system. So? Then we're replacing one system that usually crowns one of the top three teams in the country as national champion with a system that usually crowns one of the worst 117 teams in the country as national champion. The sheer absurdity of this statement is enjoyable enough, but I'd love to hear your logic behind this. because the best team doesn't always win and making the best teams play more games against good teams makes it more likely they lose? it's not rocket science, to most people.
  5. It's not higher than USC and Texas, but it's up there with USC/OU and Miami/Ohio St. There are some AP voters touting Florida as comparable to that Miami team.

  7. The only one that doesn't is a +1 playoff. Every other one does, and even the +1 system will crown the top 2 teams less often than the current setup. This isn't up for debate.
  8. No they wouldn't. The AP poll is already in love with Florida and Oklahoma and touting this national title game as one of the best matchups in history.

  10. They probably wouldn't jump the Florida/Oklahoma loser either.

  12. There is no chance it happens. Texas would have wins over Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, and Missouri. Oklahoma would have wins over TCU, Florida, Texas Tech, TCU, Missouri, Oklahoma State and Missouri or Florida would have wins over Georgia, Florida State, Louisiana State, Alabama, and Oklahoma.
  13. Michigan did. The Big Ten really gets a bad shake in the post season because they end their season so much sooner. That's one of the primary reasons that they have struggled in bowl games the last five years since the season was extended and they really did not extend theirs. The extra two or three weeks off kills them. They DO have an easier road to the title game though. The problem with the SOS during the season is that for the most part they lack inter-conference rivalries against top programs, with the exception Notre Dame. The SEC, ACC and Big East overlap a lot. The Pac 10 does schedule tough non-conferences traditionally and the Big XII does a bit more than the ACC. Throw that into the mix and then also add the fact that they have no title game which takes off an elite matchup that Big XII, SEC and ACC schools in the title mix get and you have recipe for a much weaker schedule if for no other reason than the setup of their system not to much the schools.
  14. The Ole Miss dogging has to stop. Ole Miss is a better team than Oregon State and is one of the top twenty teams in the country. They're not chopped liver. I think people are going to be surprised tomorrow afternoon. I don't think they will win, but I think it will be a close game. That being said, Florida and USC are a toss up.
  15. Is this Fox's first telecast of the season? I hate these announcers coming in during the middle of the season.
  16. That's because Texas has a chance to win the AP National Title. Not very likely but possible. Texas probably didn't get into the National Title game because Mack Brown didn't Bob Stoops the score and leave McCoy in the game like Stoops did. Mack Brown will call off the dogs if it gets out of hand. He has too much respect for Jim Tressel not to. Stoops wouldn't and Meyer wouldn't. That's what got them to Miami.
  17. The Pac 10 is 5-0 in bowls, but just 2-6 against the Mountain West Conference. Their last five games don't eliminate the entire regular season. They're not a train wreck of a conference, but they're not the Big XII, SEC or probably even the ACC this year. That being said, over the last decade, the Pac 10 probably has been the best conference. They're down for a bit now, but give them a couple years and they'll be at or near the top. Over the long haul the Pac 10 and SEC are neck and neck for top dawgs. The Big XII is a consistent number three and the ACC and Big Ten duel it out for fourth and fifth. The Big East and MWC are next. Of course, for a couple year stretch any of the six major conferences can have a good run at things. FWIW, I entered the halftime score for the Rose Bowl game 1. 84.59 1 Oklahoma 2. 83.25 2 Florida 3. 80.73 4 Southern Cal 4. 80.53 3 Texas 5. 75.39 6 Texas Tech 6. 72.98 5 Penn State 7. 71.65 7 Utah 8. 70.45 9 Alabama 9. 70.04 10 TCU 10. 68.55 8 Ohio State Predictor 87.50 Florida 87.32 Oklahoma 85.01 Southern Cal 82.41 Texas New - Old 60.60 60.01 Big 12 58.14 59.69 ACC 57.63 56.47 SEC 55.08 52.97 PAC 10 54.32 55.81 Big Ten 53.82 53.30 Big East 51.17 51.13 MWC 41.97 42.56 WAC 41.82 40.70 CUSA 41.34 41.60 IND 40.11 41.92 MAC 34.75 34.13 Sun Belt
  18. well usc ought to hit 45 themselves.
  19. I wonder when the SEC will stop turning the ball over. Georgia already has two in the first quarter against Michigan State.
  20. Um I'm pretty sure a ton of people have talked about OU's struggles in bowls the last five or so seasons. Stop being naive.
  21. except that leaves fontenot on the bench and someone like hoff in right.
