  1. cue Billy Beane comparison.
  2. In July his career major league ERA was probably still over nine. My point is from a scouts eye there are a lot similarities and if Cabrera ever got his walk rates in check they'd be very comparable stuff wise and everything else. Sure, I'm not Zambrano's biggest fan. I wouldn't be all that surprised if his ERA is third of fourth best in our rotation this year.
  3. Actually, they're similar but it's probably more acceptable to compare Daniel Cabrera to Carlos Zambrano. Both guys have good K rates, poor walk rates and are traditionally groundball pitchers. However Zambrano doesn't walk as many and gets more grounders, so while their skill sets are similar their production from the skills are dissimilar. I meant it more from the "they're the same age, but Carlos has 5 years of major league success to draw from, while Cabrera has never had any" angle. So it would be terrible to compare Rich Hill to Barry Zito last July? I am sure you and I both made those remarks.
  4. which is pretty much what a manager's job should be. I guess every single manager in baseball is doing his job wrong then. This isn't a new development. While I agree with a lot of the things said this thread about generally speaking sac's and stealing third are bad ideas. There are some times that it's an asset. Looking at the tables people brought up actually understate the amount of time it's useful.
  5. Zambrano's "sky-rocketing walk rate" is one season. He improved his walk rate four consecutive years before.
  6. I always do an autodraft on Yahoo at the very beginning - as it allows me to take advantage of poorly ranked players. This year was no different, but I have holes at SV and SBs. C: Bengie Molina - Im thinking of dropping him for Kendall b/c those 10 SBs are a need. 1B: Jason Giambi - Love this power with no BA b/c my BA rocks everywhere else. 2B: Tadahito Iguchi - Decent, won't kill my BA adds a few HRs and SBs SS: Michael Young - Hit for more power plz, nice BA 3B: Miguel Cabrera - Yeah thanks for the .330 BA! OF: Manny Ramirez - Yeah thanks for the .320 BA! OF: Rocco Baldelli - Hit for power plz. OF: Coco Crisp - PECOTA has you hitting .310 son! SBs plz UT: Aramis Ramirez - Great production Like I said the only hole for me on offense is SBs. It's a h2h league so I can survive there with a SB only guy. Im trying to trade for Brian Roberts. My bench sucks. Marcus Giles - trying to trade for speed or SVs Curtis Granderson - dropping for Salomen Torres Brandon Inge - dropping for Jonathan Broxton Craig Monroe - dropping for Taylor Tankersley SP: Ben Sheets - stay healthy SP: Felix Hernandez - return to form plz SP: Cole Hamels - 06 second half plz SP: Rich Hill - 06 second half plz SP: Jon Papelnon - I so want you back in the bullpen. SP: John Patterson - trade bait for bottom teir closer. hopefully. SP: Mark Prior - 2003 plz RP: Mike Gonzalez - oh plz close sometime.

  9. My respect for Tavarez just shot up.
  10. i would have preferred him to marquis just because cutting him would be cheaper
  11. I know he won't break camp as a starter but continuing our world of loving Angel, what if it's May 1st and he's sitting 5-0 with a 2.something or lower ERA in Iowa with impressive command, K's, and stuff and Jason Marquis is sitting at 1-3 with a 5 plus ERA. I guess my scenario is at what point does Angel Guzman get a chance if {Prior, Hill, Marquis, Lilly, Zambrano} are healthy and Marquis is not performing? At some point JH is going to have to give Angel a chance provided he's healthy and performing, of course. If Prior's at 1-3 with a 5+ ERA there's a pretty good chance he's not healthy and will be on the DL within a week or so OR he had two bad starts and two excellent starts and it's just a quick anamoly. if it's lilly then the cubs are out of the division and Z is on his way out...
  12. What if I posted this in the wrong thread!

  14. Yeah the Angels are going to trade two of their best prospects and a good young pitcher for one year of Big Z. That's a terrible article. Obviously you are not a student of recent baseball history to make such a sweepingly inaccurate statement. Examples include, but are not limited to: 1) Bagwell for Larry Anderson; 2) Smoltz for Doyle Alexander; 3) Randy Johnson to Hou (for less than one season) for Freddy Garcia, Carlos Guillen and someone else who I cannot recall at this moment; 4) Former Cubs luminary Heathcliff Slocumb for Jason Varitek and Derek Lowe. Anyone wish to add to the above? except the angels need bats, not arms and none of those included two top 25 prospects...
  15. And there's a pretty good chance it happens. What happens if Angel Guzman pitches in Spring Training like he did in 2003? Displaying the plus pitches and results. (16.0 IP 2 ER). In that case there's an argument for him being the third best starter in the organization.
  16. maybe marshall can have a fastball this year. way back when he was in lansing (i think we were still with the lugnuts) BA had him touching 95
  17. pitching or hitting? probably pitching unless the dodgers pull a loney saverys getting drafted as a pitcher.
  18. i was going to build a game by game spreadsheet for wieters, brackman and price similar to this one from last year http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f189/kctigers23/DavidPrice001.jpg any other guys you want?
  19. Rice Owls IP H R ER BB SO AB BF ----------------------------------------------- Joe Savery.......... 4.0 4 1 1 0 4 15 15 against LBSU
  20. but he did, and it's not really fair thus far 18 BF, 10 K 5 IP, 0 BB, 2 H, 1 HBP, 1 ER To be fair, it's Ohio not exactly a baseball juggernaught and well Vandy can't score it's 1-1.
  21. he may not. he didnt pitch friday because he was sick. he might just take the week off
  22. http://images.sportsline.com/u/ap/photos/AZMG202021717_1024x768.jpg Its clearly Kerry
  23. Not only that, IF Izturis goes down because of an injury the most likely replacement for fulltime duties is still Ronny Cedeno. Ronny's defense may not be as good as Izturis, but it's not THAT big of a dropoff. We're talking a few runs over the course of 162 games. Both guys can't hit though. So really our replacelemt for Izturis is essentially the same player (and by some projections better) so that makes Izturis' health not all that important because if he goes down we replace Izturis with Izturis.
  24. Well izturis has batted .280 once in his career and has failed to top .260 over any other seasons with 150 AB. I wouldnt call it pessimism id call it realism.
