  1. easy, they suck it's directional michigan.
  2. how did usc lose to stanford how did illinois lose to iowa how did alabama lose to louisiana monroe how did michigan lose to appalachian state how did iowa lose to directional michigan and so on....
  3. Yep, MLB teams are free to sign undrafted Japanese prospects. They haven't pursued any of the big name Japanese high school players historically, though. Kind of an unwritten rule between the two leagues. It has changed over the last five years though. yuki saito, sho nakata, and yoshinori sato were heavily pursued by Major League teams before the 07 draft. yu darvish was as well. Ultimately three of the four went to NPB, but the three mentioned for this years draft were the three biggest names and nakata may have been the biggest position prospect coming out of japan in years.
  4. He wasn't drawing a line in the sand between contributors and non-contributors. He was drawing a line between kids who buy into the system and aren't a cancer for the team. Andre Caldwell was an example. Several of the graduating seniors were bad apples. The guys who weren't great but gave it their best, he loves those kinds of guys. He said the team MVP last season was Jemalle Cornelius who barely contributed at all...but he stayed in, bought into the system, worked hard and graduated with good grades. And cromagnon, it really was a great rebuttal because I already argued against that post....oh wait I didn't. My mistake it was the same argument that you posted before, just restructured in different sentences: Ws and Ls because Ws and Ls are the goal blah blah blah blah. Hypocritical remark considering you accept Ws and Ls as not accurate indicators of Ws and Ls in baseball.
  5. all other fantasy sports suck. especially football. baseball is perfect for fantasy.
  6. That isn't what he said.
  7. Youre completely lost. Seriously, Urban rocks. Who can't love a coach like that?
  8. Your final question answered your first two. International players aren't subject to the MLB draft. In addition, MLB teams are hands off players drafted by NPB (Japanese) teams per the working agreement between the two leagues. The opposite is true as well. To clarify, MLB teams can sign Japanese prospects before the draft starts. So a guy like Yuki Saito could have been brilliant when he decided to go to college.
  9. no surprises in the first two bcs games with hawaii and illinois getting killed.
  10. they won't be when ohio st. wins by 2 touchdowns next week WOOOOOOOOOOO ohio state barely beat akron by two touchdowns.
  11. I think the SEC is the best conference, but it's not far and away better than the other major conferences. I think Michigan beating Florida and Wisconsin nearly beating Tennessee can justify that. i never said it was far and away. it's a sizable difference. but its not the nl to the al here.
  12. This kinda hurts your argument. I don't exactly what you're trying to say here. Are you saying that we should put more stock into Ws and Ls because they play less games? Because that's what you are suggesting. You're right every single game matters. But that's why Wins and Losses need to be factored out. Looking at Ws and Ls classifies everything as black or white when each game is a shade of grey. Looking at everything (ie score, schedule, margin of victory, etc) tries to then put a correct shade on the game. If a team outgains another by 400 yards and loses they probably lost because of a fumble by Mike Hart (heh). Florida's best offense allowed them to beat the crap out of some good teams (Tennessee, etc). I think the best way to describe the Florida defense this year is inconsistent. They had their moments, but a lapse here and there. Probably due to their inexperience more than anything. One thing that Florida has going for them. Put them on a field with anybody, and theyll get blown out less often than just about anyone in the country. They can beat anybody. They wont lose handidly to anyone. What is a top ten team? Missouri got their asses handed to them. So did Georgia. For whatever reason Florida is always going to stay in the game to the last few minutes and can beat anyone. That is more than some top ten teams can say. You put Florida on the field with anybody, including their crappy secondary and they'll be in the game until the last minute if they dont win. Does that make them one of the best ten teams in the country? Perhaps. You can't make the same claim with most top ten teams this year.
  13. you know the sec stuff is just dumb. its pretty damn obvious the sec is the best conference this year. so by me saying that it is you guys are making fun of me. you guys are amazing.
  14. this is asinine. aside from blatantly botched calls by referees, the team who plays better as a rule wins out in football. outgaining a team 500 yards to 100 is meaningless if you can't execute that yardage into scores. USC was outplayed the two Saturdays they were beaten. they're the best team in the nation because losses caused them to be outplayed, but the games were not indicative of their true talent level. football is in no way comparable to baseball for this concept. so what's so different about these two scenarios: Football team gains 500 yards on offense, score 7 points. They allow 100 yards, give up 10 points. Baseball team gets 5 walks, 10 singles, 2 doubles and a triple, score 0 runs. They allow 1 hit no walks and one run. They're analogous to each other. A few points either way in a football game is a pretty random outcome. If a team wins by a field goal, then what's the difference? It's a 3 down conversion, or stopping one. It's very small and very random. Three touchdown loss? No. A loss within a touchdown? It's fairly random. What should we take away from the game? The same from each team. On that day they were pretty much equal. Who won has very little predicative power, if any. This isn't negotiable. It's a statistical fact that cannot be argued. Don't even think about trying. So the team that wins is always the team that outplays the other? Florida lost today's game by a botched call (they had a TD called back on a penalty when they actually had enough men on the line thank you tivo and eventually a FG was blocked). Give them that TD and they win. Does that mean they outplayed Michigan? No...but they would have won.
  15. Yes. The other guy is Cameron Newton. He's a lot like Tim Tebow. He's actually bigger (6'5"), a bit faster (4.50) and has a stronger arm. He came into a few games this year to run some and he barreled over some guys like vintage Tebow. He's every bit as talented as Tebow, although he probably doesn't have the heart of Tebow that separates Tebow from others (who does?). Meyer wanted to do it this year, but Newton did not grasp the offense quickly enough to implement the system completely. They envision Newton as a similar power running QB to compliment their speed rushing attack with Fayson, Harvin etc. They hope to bring in Newton some more to save Tebow from taking the pounding he does - see the 27 carries he had in one game. They also have a real running back coming next year, the USC transfer Emmanuel Moody. So that'll help. They have talent behind Tebow at QB, just not fully gelling with the system. Tebow didn't have it down last year, they had the Tebow package which was completely different from the normal offense. Over the second spring with him, they opened up and he got the entire offense. Newton was on campus last spring, and will probably get it down pat. He's got Tebow skills, but he's no Tim Tebow. They are the same type of player. Newton loves pounding guys too. I don't know if Tebow will leave early. He's more likely to succeed as a full-time FB in the NFL. He'll get killed if he pulls his shenanigans as a QB in the league. Still there's more talent in the pipeline. They did bring in three five star recruit quarterbacks last year, (depending on the site). The other two. One's their best cover corner, Joe Haden. The other's John Brantley who redshirted this year. He's a drop pack passer with an NFL arm. He's definitely the best pure passer on the team, but he's not as good of a fit as Tebow or Newton. Although he may have an NFL future in him. He's actually as fast as Tebow, but definitely isn't a run guy. They havent signed a QB this year yet and dont really need to. They havent signed much because they dont have any scholarships. no ones leaving.
  16. Maybe Darvish will be the one to break the posting system. It only takes one.. If Darvish were posted this year, he'd probably get a 75 mil bid. no kidding. hes better than matsuzaka at the same age.
  17. You might see USC ahead of them, maybe OU. They're the odds on favorite. They return everybody and have a heisman. Voters go gaga over that sort. Theyll be preseason #1 in a lot of polls. Maybe not the AP, but in a lot. Agreed, Oklahoma seems like the no-doubter. Florida should be top-5. OU has 8 seniors on their defensive two deep. Florida has 8 seniors period. The youth on this team's unbelievable the have less juniors than seniors. With the exception of Harvey and Caldwell every contributor will return. Give their defense a year of development and they'll be back to being dominant. The offense returns every but Caldwell, who they can replace. Their offense will actually have a running back next year (and a good one). They'll have the top offense in the country (again). Florida's depth chart: Starter (Backup) DE JR (FR) DT FR (FR) DT SR (FR) DE SO (FR) LB FR (FR) LB SO (FR) LB SO (FR) CB FR (SO) CB SO (FR) FS FR (SR) SS FR (SR) It's no wonder they struggled against the pass this year. They have three defensive backs that are upperclassman. Three. Two freshman beat out two of them out. They have no upperclassman linebackers. They had a very seasoned defensive line by the teams standards with four upperclassman...out of 17. It's not as if they don't have the talent. All of the freshman listed are four or five star recruits and theyre are two other freshman not listed who were five star recruits on the defensive side who redshirted. Next year the defense is going to be quite fun to watch. Florida may finish ranked around 18-20 this year, but if the voters are rational enough to realize that they return everybody and some there's no reason not to rank them #1.
  18. Did anyone on the Illinois roster show up? At least the Florida offense made an appearance.
  19. yep. the florida defense was too busy breaking into cars and shooting up clubs in gainesville. kudos to michigan. they outplayed florida fair and square. people are taking the loss thing way out of proportion. if some of you would actually read what i posted, you'd realize that my point was that losses arent very important when you're outplaying the other team and losses generally are expected to happen. A loss like this obviously matters. florida wasnt outplayed in the auburn or lsu losses (georgia yes). "losses" are inherently taken account of when you look at say score among other things (the last i checked the losing team is outscored in a game... so losses matter quite a bit). Theyre just not end all be all that you guys think. A team with 1 or 2 more losses than another may certainly be the better team. It isnt a new concept. It isnt an earth-shattering one. You all accept the same principle in baseball, you would be stupid not to in football. look at USC. Theyre the best team in the country and have two losses.
  20. floridas young on defense and offense. only duke is younger in all of division 1a. a lot of their problems in the secondary have been blown assignments. these announcers are stupid. theyre talking about harvin coming back or not. harvins not eligible to come out. hes a true soph.
  21. youre right. theyre only a top 20 team (even if they lose) and theyre going to open up next season as the number 1 team in the country
  22. hes got some blazing 5.0 speed. well he looks like hes running a 6.0 compared to harvin floridas just getting lucky now. theyre getting outplayed and shouldnt win this game.
  23. Losses don't matter. sure they do....when the losing team gets outplayed.
