  1. Lovie just says that because he know that's what the media and fans want to hear. It doesn't really mean anything. We're quite predictable. Throw in tough defense and "Bear weather" and we're set.
  2. Three Duke freshman were kicked off the team after "felonious possession and discharge of a weapon." The players were a Rivals 4-star DT, a 3-star DE, and a 2-star RB.
  3. No injury update until tomorrow.
  4. This should be the greatest unsportsmanlike conduct penalty I've ever seen.
  5. Gus was certainly in midseason form. I'm glad I finally get to hear him call a Northwestern game on Tuesday evening @ Ohio State. That was a pretty good example why nearly 2 minutes and 30 seconds left is a tad too much time to try and just run out the clock without running any offense with a 2 possession game.
  6. Some initial reports state that he may have had a heart attack. How horrible.
  7. Way too many mistakes, but the FT shooting and rebounding got them the win. It's nice to be able to win games against ranked opponents when you still make way a ton of mistakes on both sides of the ball (turnovers and stupid slaps on layups under the basket).
  8. My beef with the officials in 3 of the conference games for Northwestern so far has been the ridiculous lack of consistency from the 1st half to the 2nd half. It was especially bad against Wisconsin on Wednesday night where they barely called anything for the first 20 minutes and called everything imaginable for the last 20 minutes.
  9. NU started out the Big Ten slate with Illinois, MSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin. If you asked me before the start of the Big Ten season what their record would be after 4 games, I would have said 1-3. And that's right where they are. 1-3 isn't a bad record at this point and the rest of this month is going to be brutal, but it was still a very, very winnable game. The kind of game that they really need to take advantage of if February's schedule is going to be meaningful. It's also disheartening to see how poorly things have gone so far. They've played one good half against Illinois (and lost) and one good half against Michigan (and won). Two stinkers at home, though.
  10. Northwestern will not get a more winnable game all Big Ten season, and that includes Iowa at home. Wisconsin looked bad out there. NU did everything conceivable to lose that game from start to finish and Wisconsin finally decided to do something in the last 4 minutes. 7 missed FTs, just 1 steal, a ridiculous number of offensive rebounds allowed immediately followed by wide open, uncontested shots. Unbelievable.
  11. If I recall correctly, the athletic department originally wanted about 9 months to market the game, in part to help sell season tickets. That would require it to be finalized in the next month or two. If that happens, my gut tells me we'd host Illinois for the game. I don't think Iowa makes as much sense since they travel better to Ryan Field than Illinois fans. The Northwestern and Iowa game is more likely to be picked up by ESPN, as well, and wouldn't need the extra attention. I get the sense they don't want to push it back to 2011, but Phillips probably will if he feels there won't be enough time. In that case, it's somewhat of a tough call between Michigan and Rice.
  12. Which fingers did Hummel injure?
  13. Kiffin will be gone by the time the next round of sanctions come down. Garrett has been there a while, but I'd imagine he's in a position of desperation. He can't afford to wait for an honest coach to turn that culture around, so why would Garrett bother pretending at this point.
  14. What is happening to this city. Spent all this time on the Olympics, didn't get it, didn't spend any time on the World Cup bid, didn't get it, losing a huge chunk of its convention business, etc.
  15. Apparently Chicago submitted a terrible bid after being too consumed by the olympics, but does Chicago seriously need a bid? It's the biggest city with a centrally located stadium. US Soccer is based here. They play in Soldier Field all the freakin' time.
  16. Just look at the list. They have SD when LA and Phoenix are already there. DC AND Baltimore!? KANSAS CITY!?
  17. You've got to be kidding me.
  18. Big, big win. Crawford made some rookie mistakes, but he showed today that he really can be something special down the line. Yeah, the 5 turnovers weren't attractive, but the guy has already had about 5 huge games. Not bad for a true freshman. We're going to face a Leuer-less Wisconsin on Wednesday. He's out indefinitely with a wrist injury, for which he'll undergo surgery tomorrow.
  19. I generally dislike stupid clock management like this.
  20. My goodness we needed that one. Apparently it took a 17 point deficit to get this team to remember how to play basketball. The 2nd half was by far the best the defense has looked in about 3-4 weeks.
  21. He probably just wants to go up to Washington to scout the local talent. And by talent I mean whores.
  22. I'd "pull" for Texas, but they can't even graduate half of their players, so no dice.
  23. C of C tied it up with 2 seconds to go in regulation on a desperation 3. At one point, they had a 19-2 run between the end of regulation and the first 3.5 minutes of OT or so. NC hit their first 3 of the game with just over a minute left in OT but they have a roughly 32 to 6 FT attempt advantage. And they storm the court.
  24. C of C 2.2 seconds away from taking down North Carolina in OT. Couldn't hit the front end to ice the game, but NC only has .8 seconds left.
