  1. So what exactly happened on the Lee error?
  2. It's Sean Marshall, Eric Patterson, and Sean Gallagher.
  3. No damage. Sounds like Z is settling down a bit.
  4. Gotta love a seven pitch inning after chucking 20 in the first frame. And a hit and run with Schumaker and Molina against a pitcher who hasn't established good control yet.
  5. If Hendry somehow found a taker for Jones, he'd almost definitely have to eat most of the contract. Or take on a bad contract. Nobody should want Jones for 3-years. Not sure why Hendry did.
  6. Two gifts in the inning. Gotta take advantage.
  7. 15-20 mph, in front center. The wind chill is below 30.
  8. Commando with a bloop double. Bah.

    Maddux

I'm not sure you can really pitch to the wind blowing in unless it's blowing in over 30 mph. Even then, though, you risk having balls dropped in the outfield. For the most part, hard hit balls are still going to do damage. You can't just let them hit it hard. If you do, you're not going to last too long. Maddux was fortunate that Edmonds got his flyout up in the air. If Edmonds got on top of that one a little bit more, it would've been a 2-run HR and not a 7-3 DP. As a pitcher, you just can't rely on the wind to do your job for you. Greg pitched very well yesterday to everyone else, but he could have left with a 5-3 lead instead of 5-1.
  10. Yeah, when I heard he was limping into third, I really didn't expect it to be a foot problem, let alone a serious one. That's a real blow for Dope.
  11. Neifi had a .287 OBP in 390 ABs at the top of the order (1 and 2 spots). And Dusty's staff went out of their way to try to make Corey into a leadoff hitter and he kept in the top of the order for 206 ABs despite a .243 OBP there. Instead of putting the better options in front of Derrek Lee, who had one of the best seasons in the history of baseball, he let those two get over 600 PAs in front of them. Combine that with other situations like not even thinking of putting Bellhorn at leadoff in 2003 and I'm convinced that he has very little concept of the value of OBP. In conclusion, it's best not to try to make any sense of Dusty's decisions. Dusty sees something in Neifi that seems to escape a lot of us and trying to find the reason behind it will only cause headaches.
  12. Did he say how exactly it happened?
  13. He probably won't want to have this announcement come on the same day that contract talks with Lee get put on hold for the season.
  14. Jaxx win! Great pitching tonight.
  15. Hopefully we'll hear Dope's x-ray results tomorrow.
  16. EPATT goes deep to right-center!
  17. According to Cubs.com, Lee set a deadline for tomorrow.
  18. Eric, I've always been intrigued by what it takes to become a good base stealer. There are plenty of guys in the game with good speed but can't seem to get their SB% above 70%. What are some of the lesser-known tips to getting a good jump and picking the right situation to go on? I'd imagine that you're continuing to try to cut down on the strikeouts, but as a top of the order and possible leadoff hitter, do you feel any pressure to sacrifice some of your extra base hitting ability for the sake of contact? Do you try to become more of a contact hitter with 2-strikes but swing harder earlier in the count? How do you balance that? Good luck and thanks again for your time!
  19. I don't know if anyone brought this up elsewhere, but on the WGN Radio Cubs Gameday program (right before the pre-game show) today, Kaplan interviewed FitzSimons, who clearly stated that "the Cubs are not for sale." I forget the jargon, but he also went on to say that the Tribune Co. doesn't have much of a reason to sell.
  20. CUBS WIN! Great way to end a great win!!!
  21. Aramis! Great play. And that applause was great.
  22. Derek, What should we expect out of the booth this year? Did you have a chance to make it to Mesa this spring? How have you been preparing for the season and getting to know the new faces? Thanks!
