  1. Well, you are entitled to your opinion. But i am not hating. I just said in the earlier 20+ pg hatefest that Jones needs a fair shake and pointed to the Boston-Renteria disaster last season. Sometimes it just takes a player 1 month to adjust to the league. One of those crazy things. But we do need to get more positive posting going in here. Need to find some diamonds in this rough. So your thoughts about letting Ramirez, a superior hitter (and possibly better defensively so far), leave after his April were justified and shouldn't be called out later on? If Jones keeps up those splits against righties, I think we'll need to call Ripley's.
  2. He hits for very little power and won't make it to the big leagues as a corner outfielder. He'll also have to cut down on his strikeouts, but he's certainly hitting right now. He's 6'2'' 185, but he's also 24 years old. He isn't really going to bulk up. He's going to have to move eventually. Even if his future is as a bench player, he'll probably want to try the infield again.
  3. Wow. We should just put Conan in there. They're looking for someone to hit off of, not to show them up. In another article last week, I believe she said that the Cubs received over 60 applications for the lefty BP pitcher position.
  4. Although, it was a bad risk because you don't want Pierre leading off the next inning.
  5. Maddux better not let the opposing pitcher steal off of him like he did last year after he stole a bag.
  6. Nothing has gone smoothly for Prior since December. If he goes in two games in Mesa and then two rehab starts (like Wood), he'll be looking at a return the first week of June. Of course, he may not need four.
  7. That'll be nice. As I mentioned elsewhere, it's something to keep an eye on, but I wouldn't be overly concerned about his velocity. He topped out at 97 in Peoria. If he's not around 95 consistently by his third start, then there may be something, but it's too soon to really make much of it.
  8. Just bullpen help. Oh, and he'll be up for 4 games, not 3. My mistake.
  9. Yes. It wouldn't matter anyway. The 40-man roster is currently at 39 after outrighting Restovich, so one player can be added to the 40-man roster without removing somebody else. Actually, it does matter, technically at least. If you load up the 40-man while you have a guy that you value on the 60-day DL, you'll wind up having to take someone off the 40-man when you eventually activate the 60-day DL guy. In our particular case, it wouldn't matter much. I'd be happy for them to DFA Bynum, Hairston, BFG, or BFJ. Probably Hendry will be willing to part with Bynum, but Miller probably won't be activated until at least the second week of June. Maybe sooner, but there's still plenty of time. Oh, and it looks like Ryu took #20. Hopefully Pie takes that number later, or else I've got to sell my #20 jersey.
  10. Have Cedeno and Guzman shown above average emotion on the field? I haven't seen that. He'll regain his control, but it wasn't that great in Iowa, either. He was able to get away with more deep counts at AAA, but not in the majors. He should be fine, though. Ryu will be up for 3 games. If he pitches in any of those games, it won't be a good sign.
  11. I agree. If the Cubs want to improve the line-up, they need to make a move that will have a difference after Lee returns. Something that upgrades rigthfield production against lefties is where to look. Of course, that's been needed ever since Jones was signed and yet Hendry continued to ignore the bench. Maybe they finally realized that they need a platoon partner for Jones (could they have actually looked at his splits?), but I'm not holding my breath. But yeah, with Lee back in about a month, that's what Jim needs to be focusing on.
  12. He topped out at 97 in Peoria, but most of his fastballs were in the low 90s. We'll see if that was from just not pushing it.
  13. Yeah, his velocity is something to watch. It picked up after a few innings in Peoria, I believe, but he wasn't in the 95 range consistently. Here are some pics from the game: http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060513/capt.0fc9a9f50e854b1489b4c59bce674676.cubs_wood_baseball_iacn105.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060513/capt.652a24592ac245a5b07189f25886112c.cubs_wood_rehab_start_iacn104.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060513/capt.c778c43a770e424f8e895437de3c48ea.cubs_wood_baseball_iacn107.jpg http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060513/capt.ae7e445ea6be4738b33a402b9c71698a.cubs_wood_baseball_iacn106.jpg
  14. If he was going to be called up, he wouldn't have played tonight. Plus, he hasn't hit much at all this season, although he's batting .233 in May with a .857 OPS.
  15. 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K on 85 pitches, 54 for strikes, 7-5 GO-FO Not all that impressive, but without much control, he at least minimized the damage. Didn't really give up many hard hit balls and most of the fly balls weren't hit too deep.

  17. Certainly not smooth sailing like last time. 61 pitches and 38 strikes through 3 innings.
  18. Not much control so far and it doesn't sound like he's been able to do all that much with his breaking stuff.
  19. Did I miss a foul ball on the third batter? I guess I did. Trying to keep up gives me a greater appreciation for Fred and the awesome job he does in game threads. Gameday says it the batter fouled off three pitches, which were the only strikes in that AB.
  20. There's a game thread in the game thread forum. You can also follow along on MiLB gameday. Pie gunned down trying to stretch a leadoff double into a triple. Must've seen his power numbers.
  21. Wonder if that would have had a chance without the wind blowing in. 18 pitches, 11 strikes. Sure had some control problems after getting the second out.
  22. During a pregame show after the move, he said that he was hoping the move would light a fire under some of the guys.
  23. Gonna see Wood? Nice. Len and Bob's WGNTV.com blog puts them up before each homestand. Wayne Messmer will be singing on the 17th.
