  1. What a stunning comeback by Turkey.
  2. Mathes is certainly one to keep an eye on. He probably had some luck in April with a .233 BABIP, but he's keeping the ball on the ground a bit more this year. Today, he had 15 ground balls to 4 fly outs.
  3. Are the Cubs being forced to play some of their regulars? It may just be an inning, but they still have to go through their entire pregame warmup routine. Playing the bench players would be just fine, though.
  4. Actually, he probably will. Wood pitched 2 innings on Thursday and 1 inning last Sunday. With the exhibition/off day tomorrow, Wood may be out there.
  5. Oh, Lou. You may want to take a look at the scoreboard sometime.
  6. Gotta love Edmonds batting 5th in front of two better hitters. Cubs R. Johnson lf K. Fukudome rf D. Lee dh A. Ramirez 3b J. Edmonds cf G. Soto c M. DeRosa 2b M. Hoffpauir 1b R. Theriot ss Blue Jays A. Rios rf M. Scutaro 2b S. Rolen 3b V. Wells cf K. Mench lf R. Barajas c B. Wilkerson 1b G. Zaun dh J. McDonald ss
  7. Greece is gone following a 1-0 defeat to Russia.
  8. We're still a ways away from telling how Edmonds is going to work out. In his first 25 PAs, he hit .125/.160/.125. Since then, in 39 PAs entering today, he has hit .400/.436/.771. It doesn't seem like he's going to put up a respectable OBP right now, but if he can provide some power at the bottom of the order, it might work out. But again, he's only had success for 12 games and there are quite a few warning signs with him. He also hasn't shown a great glove out there, but he should be more than passable.
  9. Hmm. IowaCubs.com says that tonight's game has been postponed. However, they may play tonight if they can without any fans allowed. Strange. They've scheduled a double-header for tomorrow.
  10. Didn't see it, but the Spain/Sweden match looked entertaining. Quite a few blown chances and one controversial no-call.
  11. Miles was pitching in the upper 60s to mid 70s. The PitchFX system classified 6 of the 10 pitches as knuckleballs and the other 4 pitches as changeups. It's hard for batters to make that adjustment in the 9th inning.
  12. Kevin Hart is supposed to start for Tennessee today due to the flooding in Iowa.
  13. Corey was batting .250/.318/.300 the week leading up to the injury. The week before that, it was .217/.333/.391. Before that it was .167/.231/.208. Overall in that last month, he was hitting .238/.291/.356.
  14. Yes, the sandbagging option, please.
  15. that 86 OPS+ and .700 OPS sure catalyzed that 2005 team. You can't buy that kind of catalyzation. What about the stolen bases? He was nearly a liability on the bases with his 72% success rate, especially with the power they had in that lineup. Podsednik's base stealing ability was only an asset in his two seasons with Milwaukee and not since. And he's only had one good season in the majors (2003). Outside of that, he's been really bad.
  16. I'm not sure if this was already posted: http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2008-06/39923917.jpg
  17. On Kevin Jones: Also, Bears tickets will go on sale a week earlier this year, July 12th at noon.
  18. I still don't know why Dempster needed a complete game.
  19. I rewatched the first inning and that was awesome. Plus, Len's call should be sent to the HOF if that were somehow possible.
  20. That was a fun one to listen to at work. Can't wait to check out the highlights. And for all the moaning about the black and white with the old camera angles, I think it was a pretty cool idea (only because they kept the HD).
  21. I'd imagine that Cedeno would have been used to PR for Ramirez if Lou kept Hoffpauir in there to PH.
