  1. What did Jacque Jones do to piss off the baseball gods yesterday?
  2. It's interesting though. I agree with Len that I think that most major league managers could have been with the past few World Series champions and managed them to a title. Managers don't have much to do with Randy Johnson/Curt Schilling/Josh Beckett totally dominating the Yankee hitters. They also don't have much to do with David Ortiz hitting walk off homers. However, by the same token, I wonder if Len Kasper thinks that Grady Little should be criticized for leaving in Pedro Martinez in the ALCS.
  3. Oh gosh, this is gonna get me in trouble, but... Cubs fans are not the best in the world. We are great fans, no doubt. We are NOT the best in the world. How do you even quantify that? Because we sell out every game, even though we're horrible? Because we question each and every move that our front office and manager make? As much as I hate to say it, we aren't any better than Cardinals fans. We're no better than Red Sox fans. We're no better than Yankee fans. We're definitely up there, and among the best, but I think saying we're the best is very egocentric. Sorry for the semantical rant. We are great fans, no doubt. The best? How can you say? The "best fans in the world" don't throw garbage onto the field when things aren't going your team's way. The "best fans in the world" have more class than that. The "best fans in the world" would respect themselves and the game. It was a sad day for me as a Cubs fan when I saw that kind of crap after the Pierzynski homer in the top of the 9th.
  4. ESPN just voted that Ryan Freel catch in the 4th inning of the game where Sosa/Alou went back to back to get a walk off win in 2004 as the best Reds web gem of all time.
  5. What about situations where errors are committed but they lead to earned runs? For example, man on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. Error by the left fielder allows the man on 3rd to score and the man on 2nd to go to 3rd base. Next batter doubles to score the man on 3rd. Hence, the two runs are earned runs. Does that count in your stat?
  6. Konerko just homered off Rivera to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th.
  7. What stands out in my mind from that article is not the fact that ARam has the best fielding percentage of 3rd baseman in the NL. It's the fact that the Cubs have three former players up for Comeback Player of the Year honors. You have to wonder about the management when players leave from the previous year and THREE of them are now up for Comeback Player of the Year.
  8. -cough- Dontrelle Willis -cough- -cough- Ricky Nolasco -cough- -cough- Joe Borowski - cough- Boy, I sure have a tickle in my throat. Well, every time you call someone up from an affiliate, you gotta send someone down to make room. ;)
  9. As memory serves me, Miller made it clear when he signed with this team that he had no intention of being a reliever. Well, that just makes the choice easier. He puts up decent starting numbers on SOME level consistently or he's gone. Stop being so tough on the kid, man. He's just doing the best he can.
  10. Man, the Marlins are fast becoming something like our major league affiliate. We keep them there until they're on the verge of stardom, and then we get them all.
  11. Perhaps a better stat would be the #1, #2, and #3 Tiger starters records against the Red Sox/Yankees/White Sox. But wouldn't it have been awesome if the Cubs took 2 of 3 from the Tigers at Wrigley? It would lend even more credence to the theory that the Cubs play up to their opponents level, and could always be mentioned when talking about the Tigers.
  12. Why? I really like this team and think it would be awesome to have them in the World Series, considering their recent horrible stretch and the fact that their fans seem to be pretty on the level compared to other AL franchises. I really like the Tigers, too. And it's almost....heck it is unfair. Think about a postential pitching staff that includes Bonderman/Maroth/Verlander and Miller, with Rodney and Zumaya at the back end of the bullpen. Omigod....unreal. The Tigers have not shown that they can beat the Yankees or the Red Sox. And don't they also have a losing record against the White Sox? That's why I don't think they'll beat them in the postseason. As for why I want that to happen: probably cause the Tigers swept us at Wrigley.
  13. That one may be too esoteric, even for me !! You got any stats on walk-of wins for different teams this year? I know the Cubs have none.
  14. Somehow having Gretzky's jersey retired by the NHL feels right, but having Michael Jordan's jersey retired by the NBA doesn't feel right.....there's just something different about Gretzky. Maybe it was because he is the greatest hockey player ever, and there is not even any argument that is possible for someone else. (And please don't call me a racist with this post.)
  15. Man, I can't wait for the postseason so the Tigers can lose in 6 to either the Yankees or the Red Sox.
  16. You need 502 PA to qualify to win the title. Yes, when all is said and done, you need 502 PA to qualify for the batting title, but what I meant was he needed 344 PA to qualify at that time. The Cubs had only played 111 games at that time.
  17. That would be amazing. I would love it. Don't hold your breath... Howard, Utley and Hamels are the three untouchables on that club. Maybe Brett Myers too, but it's hard to know because of his off-the-field troubles. I agree. Utley and Howard ain't going nowhere. If any GM calls up the Phillies and asks about them, they'll get laughed at and a Monty Python and the Holy Grail-type scolding.
  18. ^That's even more depressing.
  19. Impressive for a #8 hitter. Well, impressive for a catcher too. The NL Central has some pretty good hitting catchers this year; Ross has been good in Cincy, Barrett for us, Paulino for Pittsburgh. Don't forget Yadier Molina! Oh never mind, he can't hit his weight. That's not saying much though...
  20. I think he has 337 PA's now, since he had 333 coming into this game. You need about 344 to qualify.
  21. The thing is, if we got Mauer, we could have moved Barrett to another position. One positive thing about the Cubs management is that they have a knack for getting players on the verge of stardom: DLee, Ramirez, and Barrett.
  22. What's Len and Bob's email address on WGN?
  23. A game w/ no offical AB's unless one of the PA's was a Sac Fly So he could get a sac fly and 4 walks and have his streak ended?
