  1. DLee has been with the team even when he was on the DL. He won't break team chemistry.
  2. How do the A's keep winning ? I mean, they are so young and inexperienced, they don't play small ball, and they have guys on pitch counts. It makes no sense. Great pitching in a terrible division will do that for you. That's all they have-their offense is only marginally better then ours for the year. It also helps to be in the only 4 team division in baseball, none of whose teams are particularly dominant.
  3. Awesome read. Thanks.
  4. Yeah, when rosters expand. Leave no stone unturned. Put Wood on the 60 day DL and activate Miller.
  5. Wow. There's a lot of ignorance on that message board. So Ensberg is having a horrible, wretched year, but his WARP is exactly the same (3.9) as Aramis Ramirez, and he's had fewer at-bats. So the Astros problem is clutch hitting with RISP? That sounds like something Jim Hendry would say. So the Astros need to play more small ball? Bunt more? Hit more sacrifice flies? It seems they haven't discovered OBP yet, either. Are public schools failing in Houston? It's a lot easier to sit back and objectively comment on something when you have no stake in it. They are the ones that are emotionally attached to the Astros, so I would cut them some slack. We are probably the same to them.
  6. Izzy Alcantara! I was at a Durham Bulls game with Izzy in the outfield for the opposing team. We taunted him by chanting "Pele!" for the entire game.
  7. LOL at the guy with the boom mike.
  8. What's the history between Showalter and Scioscia? I wonder how far back this goes.
  9. NL-only leagues?
  10. Okay check it! If the Cards lose tonight we are 11.5 games out. When we sweep the Cards this weekend we are only 8.5 game out! Wow! How does it feel to witness a Cubs miracle in your lifetime!?!? GO CUBS!!!! Am I the only one with a bad feeling about this weekend series against the Cards? It seems everytime the media or fans dismiss a team as an "easy win" because of past success, it backfires right in our face. The Cubs have been living dangerously against the Cards at Wrigley. I would be shocked if we swept.
  11. Being better than Roger is an accomplishment, Andy? Not so much. I haven't been watching, but it doesn't look like Andy pitched a bad game. Complete game for Pettitte, 1 ER. It must really suck to be a starting pitcher for the Astros.
  12. I love it when Berkman does the bat boy's job for him.
  13. who is 1-4 out of curiosity? Carpenter, Schmidt, Clemens
  14. Don't worry. I'm sure a hooker with a heart of gold that he falls in love with will make him see the error of his ways.
  15. Batting third: Dusty Baker Batting cleanup: Hank Aaron Dusty is always on deck when Hank is up. That's one thing Dusty could say. He offered protection to the greatest home run hitter ever.
  16. If we were to rank position players in the NL, I'd put Derrek Lee behind only Pujols. However, I don't think that Zambrano is the second best pitcher in the NL. He's awesome, no doubt, but I'd say he's closer to no. 5.
  17. When did this happen? Clemens beaned Jones in his first plate appearance. BTW, I absolutely love having nothing to play for and totally demoralizing teams in the playoff hunt. There is something sadistic about that, I know, but it's a good feeling. Of course, I would love it even more if we were in the playoff hunt to begin with, but given the circumstances, I couldn't feel better.
  18. Man, if you ever have the time, read this thread on a Houston sports message board. If you thought we were down about our team, just wait until you read the posts by these guys! Some of their sarcasm, masochism, and tongue-in-cheek riticism is absolutely hilarious. It's kinda like the humor in these game threads, but multiplied by ten. Oh man, I almost woke up everybody in the house laughing at those posts. Take for example this quote about Morgon Ensberg: HAHAHAHA.
  19. Murton's name upside down has a "W" in it, and looks like Wnnfou. Did you actually waste paper and ink figuring that out?
  20. Good thing the Houston hitters suck even more than our hitters.
  21. Hawkins gave up the 3-run, game tying home run to Diaz with two outs in the 9th. Some no-name hit the game-winning home run off Mercker in the 11th.
  22. Wow, was that really all the same game? I remember all of those incidences, but I don't recall them being in the same game. I certainly remember a Wood ejection after he walked two straight hitters, but I don't remember that being in the 9th inning. BTW, the score was 10-10 in the 9th. What kind of pitcher was "dealing" with the score 10-10?
  23. That game was one of the wildest games I've ever seen. Baker actually snapped in that game as well as he couldn't execute a double switch properly. That whole season was wild. 2003 was a great run, but for sheer entertainment value 2004 was the most fun baseball season I've ever followed. My best memories of that season: 1) Sosa's bases-loaded fully extended diving catch against (I think) Pittsburgh to preserve a 1-0 Cubs win. We really needed that win at the time. 2) Following Gameday from work and not believing my eyes when Barrett hit the double to drive in Hollandsworth and Walker against the A's. 3) Nomar's first game with the Cubs and Maddux's second attempt to get his 300th win. Nomar got his first NL RBI that day to get some insurance runs. 4) Sosa/Alou go back to back against the Reds. Was that really the game that Dusty got ejected cause he couldn't pull off a double switch or the ump didn't hear him correctly? I remember the fans throwing trash onto the field after that. 5) Maddux's 300th win against the Giants and Bonds. 6) Sweep of Sox at Wrigley. 7) 4 game sweep early in the season against the Astros.
