  1. Here's a screencap of the bleachers that I took: http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/314/image09052216tv78qc2.jpg
  2. I know we hate Juan Pierre but he has been the best leadoff guy the Cubs have had this decade.
  3. You'd think that the Cubs would accidently win a game one of these days, eh? You'd think with all the baseball, that they'd stumble onto a victory every now and then.
  4. I agree. The Marlins are the ones I want to win the Wild Card. How cool would it be for a team with a $15 million payroll to make the playoffs? It'll make a lot of GM's look awfully silly, if you ask me.
  5. I can see it now. He gets Todd Helton to pop up for the last out in the 9th on his 213th pitch of the game, blowing out his arm in the process.
  6. Yep, we're about to set MLB history. I don't see us getting a complete game anytime this month.
  7. What's lost in the shuffle is that the Astros pitcher that day, Shane Reynolds, pitched an 8 inning CG with 1 earned run and 10 K's. The 30 combined strikeouts that game might just be a major league record. Great thread. I haven't googled this yet, but my instinct tells me that the record is 33, and that Randy Johnson was involved. I'm pretty sure he was in AZ, so this could have been a record at the time. I remember watching a little bit of his ML debut in Montreal (was this the same game that Kent Bottenfield beaned Andy Stankowiecz (sp?) in the face?) and wondering if he was going to be any good, then coming home from school on May 6 and seeing him being interviewed after a game in which he apparently had 15 Ks thru seven. I was always a very openly stated Cubs fan, but this was the exact day I bacame the hopeless mess I am today. EDIT -- I still haven't found anything definitive on the combined Ks in a game. There was a game in 97 in which 33 people from both the A's and Angels K'd in a 15-inning game (this tied a record, one which I again couldn't find), but that's not quite the same thing. I'm very curious now. I'm also hoping that the number 33 didn't come to mind because of Kerry Wood's 2-game K total thanks to striking out 13 in his following start. The major league record for strikeouts in a game is 43, in a 20 inning game between the Angels and the A's in 1971. Link to box The major league record for strikeouts in 9 innings is 31, in a 1997 game between the Mariners (Unit starting) and Rangers. Link to box Wood's 20 K game remains the NL record for combined K's in a 9 inning game.
  8. What's lost in the shuffle is that the Astros pitcher that day, Shane Reynolds, pitched an 8 inning CG with 1 earned run and 10 K's. The 30 combined strikeouts that game might just be a major league record.
  9. To be totally fair, it would have been a 19 K perfect game. He struck out the 27th out of the game, which wouldn't have happened. EDIT: NM< forgot about the DP. It wouldn't have been a perfect game either with that play converted since Wood also hit Biggio in the 6th inning. Also, no DP was converted by the Cubs in the game. link
  10. What's weird is that in the past 11 games, the only two games that the Cubs have won are the games that I did not watch a single second of. I watched parts of all the rest of the games. Geez, this doesn't help me get over superstitions.
  11. Full Article CLASS! You don't hear a lot of players leaving bitter. Who wouldn't want to play in Wrigley in front of great fans... Jacque Jones? If Jones learned how to throw a ball to the cutoff man on less then 10 bounces and keep his mouth shut he would be a fan favorite... I've never heard Jones say anything.
  12. Who's going to get hurt next for the Red Sox? Schilling? Beckett? I mean, it can't get much worse now can it? Well, if they lose Schilling or Beckett, then they can be entered into the discussion with the Cubs of which team has been most injury-prone.
  13. I'm not sure if I'll be able to stomach this movie... Seriously though, are most Cubs fans like us: criticizing the owners, the front office, the management, the players. Or are most Cubs fans like the guy who made this movie and the Cubs fans who posted in this thread: loving the Cubs no matter what, proudly admitting they are true fans through every losing season, etc.
  14. Actually, since it's now Sept. 1, the 25-man roster no longer exists. Rosters have expanded. Since the minor league season is still going on I wouldn't expect anybody to be called up yet; I think it's more likely that some of the injured players will be activated from the DL. Well, then we have a spot open on our 40 man roster. Since the 15-day DL is included on the 40 man roster, we either have to activate someone on the 60-day DL (Wade Miller perhaps) or just add someone to the 40 man roster. Now that I think about it, the Cubs will definitely activate Wade Miller. No reason not to.
  15. So we have a spot open on our 40 man roster. Who got called up?
  16. That was Lugo, not Furcal. And yeah, those freaking umpires can't let their emotions get in the way of calling a fair game. Anybody who does should be replaced immediately. How much pull does the umpire union have with the MLB?
  17. Who the hell cares about the Red Sox?
  18. This month has been the month from hell for the Red Sox and their fans.
  19. What are you talking about?
  20. Wow, I just looked it up the roster, and you're right. That team had no business winning 90 games at all. Servais, Morandini, Blauser, Hernandez, Alexander??? It's like Major League all over again.
  21. Mulder is terrible! Why couldn't he have come back in the series against us?
