  1. Apparently instant replay will be showcased in today's Cubs-Pirates game.
  2. I would assume that umpires are instructed to rule a ball in play whenever possible, and go to replay afterwards.
  3. Why is Len saying the end credits when there's an entire half inning left to play?
  4. i doubt it... have you seen the girls in pittsburgh? No, but now I'm very curious.
  5. Since we all know baseball goes in 100 year cycles, who will make a boner this year?
  6. For the PCL, the league is split into two conferences, with two divisions each. Division winners play best of 5 for the conference title, and those two conference champions then play a best of 5 for the league title. The winner of the PCL plays the winner of the IL in the Bricktown Showdown.
  7. Are they from College Station, PA?
  8. Adam Dunn Too bad he hates baseball though.
  9. If my calculations are correct, +143 against non-Pirate opponents, still good (by a wide margin) for first in baseball.
  10. Yep, Dave Trembley's an idiot. Here comes Dye to end it.
  11. The whole point of a PA is to count the number of plate appareances. You have to go up to the plate to get a sac bunt, so it's a PA.
  12. Season over. Pretty impressive you found that needle in the information haystack.
  13. Charlie Manuel runs out of pitch hitters so he had to use Cole Hamels to hit in a crucial spot.
  14. We all know about the incidents with Doug Eddings and the White Sox in the 2005 ALCS and now today. However, there was a third incident either earlier this year or last year involving Eddings making a favorable call for the White Sox. I'm not sure if AJ was involved in that one though. Does anybody remember this? I'm busting my brain, but nothing comes up ... EDIT: I think I found it. Doug Eddings was the home plate ump during the Thome/Quentin double steal controversy on May 8th.
  15. Well I understand the "purposeful out" thing... but regardless... not every time does a player go up there TRYING to Sac Fly... Purposeful or not, it's still an out. I think an RBI should be awarded and that's it. That's why it still counts against the players OBP, because he was not necessarily trying to make an out. SacBunts, however, do not count against OBP as in most cases the coaches are taking the PA away from the batter by telling him to make an out. Sac bunts also count against OBP, as they are also a plate appearance. The plate appearance statistic has nothing to do with the OBP formula: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_base_percentage
  16. Joe Maddon with the 4th infielder trick now. This should be good.
  17. If I'm a team and I have to play the Sox at the Cell with Doug Eddings in the crew, I protest the game before it even begins.
  18. HAHAHAHAHA ... Doug Eddins bails out AJ Pierzynski again!!
  19. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CHC/attend.shtml The Cubs were 5th in the NL in attendance in 2006, and fell just short of the attendance record to that point. (A new record was set in 2007) you know as well as i do that a number or those tickets were sold well in advance. by september of that year, the real attendance wasn't exceeding 30,000, even if the paid attendance was above that mark. But even approx. 30K people is better than a large portion of team draw on average this year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance There's no question that more fans go to Wrigley every year than most other teams. But that doesn't make Truffle's overall point wrong. You'd have to compare fans of a team that's winning to fans of that same team when it's losing. If there's a team that fills its stadium or even maintains an even attendance level, whether the team is winning or losing, that would disprove his point (to some extent). Agreed. But Cubs fans are def. not as "fairweathered" or "front runner" or whatever as, say the Phillies fans. Or the White Sox for that matter. Here's a pic of Wrigley in 2006 (just sayin'): http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3144/2791475745_4b2b3a01a2_o.jpg
  20. Ichiro is having an awful year, by the way, does anyone know why? He's 34 and was vastly overrated in his prime anyway? In his prime, Ichiro was definitely not overrated. Now, however, I don't think anyone is saying Ichiro is still as amazing as he was in 2003, so he can't be overrated.
  21. Well, if you want to know, bigger baseball collapses have occurred. One just last season.
