  1. Good, this means Edmonds will get an AB in the 9th, if it goes that far.
  2. 6 pitch inning with a baserunner ... don't see that too often.
  3. Does it feel like we're slowly progressing to a Lilly disaster inning?
  4. Fukudome providing absolutely no protection for Ramirez.
  5. This is why baseball is my favorite sport, always full of surprises. Surprise! Joe Mather LOL
  6. I didn't think we'd get an answer to this question, but here it is: Valdosta, Georgia http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080807&content_id=3270063&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc A couple good quotes from Eyre in there. Good luck to him, except when we possibly meet his team in the playoffs. 8 miles to the gallon? Geez, talk about a waste of money.
  7. Gentlemen, you have a chance to end the Cardinals season. Have at it.
  8. Manny can freaking hit.
  9. I bet managers love closers because it means less accountability for them. Blew a lead in the 9th? Oh, well. I put the closer out there and it didn't work out.
  10. how many people really stuck with that team? i remember game threads that were 2 or 3 pages long, mostly fred doing play by play for himself. they were a complete waste of time to follow (except on rich hill days). I'll say one thing, it was a lot less stressful to watch the team at the end of 2006. Losing was expected. If they won, it was gravy. But if they blew a 5 run lead, it wasn't really a big deal because you hated pretty much everyone on the roster. classic game thread - 22 posts TOTAL. these game threads have twice as many before the game even starts. and of course a classic cob lineup: Pierre, CF Fast Freddie, 2B Ramirez, 3B Murton, LF Moore, 1B Blanco, C Coats, RF Cedeno, SS Mateo, P You picked a fitting game thread from the 2006 season: Bottom of the 9th, Reds Batting, Behind 1-2, Ryan Dempster facing 8-9-1 Ryan Dempster replaces Freddie Bynum pitching and batting 2nd; Ryan Theriot moves to 2B; Todd Hollandsworth pinch hits for Jason LaRue batting 8th T Hollandsworth Double to LF (Fly Ball to Deep CF) Juan Castro pinch hits for Aaron Harang batting 9th; Ray Olmedo pinch runs for Todd Hollandsworth batting 8th J Castro Wild Pitch; Olmedo to 3B " " Strikeout Swinging C Denorfia Wild Pitch; Olmedo Scores " " Single to LF (Ground Ball) S Hatteberg Single to CF (Line Drive); Denorfia to 3B 84% R Aurilia Intentional Walk; Hatteberg to 2B Scott Eyre replaces Ryan Dempster pitching and batting 2nd; Royce Clayton pinch hits for Dewayne Wise batting 4th R Clayton Single to LF (Ground Ball); Denorfia Scores; Hatteberg to 3B; Aurilia to 2B 2 runs, 4 hits, 0 errors, 3 LOB. Cubs 2, Reds 3.
  11. Given what I've seen of him, and some of the things I've heard him say, I think Cecil Cooper just might be a worse manager than Dusty. i didn't think that was possible. IIRC, he had Berkman lay down a sac bunt this year. It was on FJM some time ago. I think that was Dusty Baker with Encarnacion and Dunn. Cecil Cooper said he would rather have Berkman hit a single rather than a home run with the Astros down 4 in the 9th. This was after the game when Berkman hit a HR to bring the Astros back within 2.
  12. Then stop cheering for them to lose.
  13. Damn. I was hoping this idiotic idea would continue a little longer. It's true for hitters as well because hitting and pitching stats are basically the same thing, just on different sides of the tug-o-war. Consider a theoretical case of a pitcher who routinely gives up 330 ft. fly balls to LF. He would be great at Wrigley but horrible at Fenway. On the opposite end of the spectrum, consider a hitter who routinely hits 330ft. fly balls to LF. He would suck at Wrigley but be great at Fenway. My point is that home stats are meaningful for a pitcher because the ballpark is a constant in home splits. However, road stats don't tell you much because it gathers together all 15 different road ballparks to form the split.
  14. I mean, really. Did anybody seriously think that he was going to do that all season?
  15. Fielder HAD to watch Parra cause he was playing the field ...
  16. Maybe cause Plesac wants to be a color guy someday? Honestly, why does it matter? I guarantee you Plesac is not looking at Melton thinking if Melton won't fill in for the Cubs, I'm not gonna fill in for the Sox.
  17. See Cubs, 2005.
  18. I giggled like a schoolgirl.
  19. At this point I think La Russa IBB's Manny for everything except bases loaded. I'd do that all through every game. The rest of this lineup is like a neutered dog. Kemp, Loney, Ethier, Blake, Martin ... not too shabby.
  20. Don't question Torre's logic. Glaus shoulda picked up the foul ball. But where's that logic when he pulls the pitcher in the next inning?
  21. At this point I think La Russa IBB's Manny for everything except bases loaded.
  22. Joe Torre batting the pitcher. Great.
