  1. any Soriono predictions for 2007? .271/.337/.545 .390/.533/.703
  2. You think Hawpe's a better player than Soriano? Yes. Wow, I mean Hawpe is a very nice player but I personally dont think he is on Soriano's level. I think it is quite obvious that you dont really like the signing of Soriano, but dont let that cloud your judgment. If you are going the route of production vs. price, then I can see your point, otherwise I would have to disagree. But I would love to hear why you came to that conclusion. Hawpe in 2006: .293/.383/.515/.898 Soriano in 2006: .277/.351/.560/.911 Soriano has only put up Hawpe's OPS once in his career. And Hawpe is 3.5 years younger with just two full major league seasons under his belt. Hawpe is really good though, so I don't take it as a knock against Soriano.
  3. But him stealing a bag isn't going to make up for him getting caught. The Cubs are and still are going to be a team who are out-[expletive]. They'll get them in bunches and REALLY need to conserve them. On the averages, a SB is worth .195 runs and a caught stealing is worth -.456 runs. Plug in his stuff last season and his stolen bases netted a whole .24 runs. Throw on top of that the Cubs higher than league average run environment (which makes each CS hurt them more and each SB help them less) and all of a sudden you have a guy whose running hurts us. And we decided to pay for it. I understand, but saying Soriano's speed is only a threat to our offense is crazy. When he does steal a bag it will help, and when he is able to, say, get from first to third on a single, it will help too. Sure when he is caught stealing it will hurt, but in reality it will help alot more then it will hurt. Would you rather Soriano have no speed or somthing?
  4. Because when Soriano steals a bag, it's really hurting our offense! That's as silly a response as "Because when Soriano strikes out, it's really helping out offense! " Neither of these statements have anything to do with what he posted. try harder. What?

  6. I'm gonna be honest and say if the Bears have to face the Cowboys at any point in the postseason, I wouldn't be afraid at all. I'm confident the Bears would absolutely dismantle them. They are just not really particularly good at anything. I think the Bears, healthy Seahawks, Panthers, and healthy Giants are all better teams. I am still very impressed by the Cowboys and think they have a shot.
  7. Well, they're not. The Cubs scored an almost identical percentage of baserunners to the rest of the league, elite teams included. There is very little variation from team to team. The Cubs scored fewer runs because they didn't have enough baserunners, plain and simple. I'm pretty sure in Jim's mind, he means no team is going to walk 7 times an inning and score 3 runs. Walks are great, but you have to execute and drive the runners in too. I hope thats what he means ... :?
  8. I think Jim's comments are true.
  9. I'm more worried about Zambrano being extended to be honest.
  10. just stop talking (writing, typing, whatever) You aren't a mod, so who are you to say that?
  11. because he was a .300 hitter in 2004 and 2005 and he had a finger injury in 2006 that made him suck. hes not great, but he's not terrible. in a perfect world it would be trade eyre and izturis for coco and sign lugo forgetting about soriano. Right, because you know 100% that the Red Sox would do that deal. Soriano/Derosa > Crisp/Lugo.
  12. Please god let Rusch retire!
  13. Sign Meche/Lilly. Trade Jones's contract. Sign Drew. I don't think it's that impossible. Who knows, the payroll maybe be bigger than the 115-120 that we've been hearing. Zambrano needs a new deal.
  14. Signing Drew now is a bad idea. We need the money for one of the Starters. Then we need to trade for one, of course.
  15. actually i read that soriano might be in right with jones moved to center and murton in left. not a bad idea if jones can handle center. Only if DeRosa can play CF against lefties, and then Theriot taking over at 2B on those days.
  16. Trade Eyre, keep Ohman and Cotts plz.
  17. Jones or Murton is so gone.
  18. Pierre- .292 .330 .388 3 HR 58 SB Soriano- .277 .351 .560 46 HR 41 SB Ohh, I didn't realize that every player repeats their numbers from the previous year. Thanks for letting me in on that secret. Jeez, that makes a GMs job so much easier. I would say that our team is looking pretty good now...except I predict its really going to hurt us when DLee breaks his wrist. And too bad ARAM won't step up when we need him. Hey, lets trade for Suppan at the deadline, he won't have a ton of value at the time but I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that he will do really well in the playoffs!!!! Man I bet the Rangers are pissed that that this rule that you have wasn't in effect when they trade for Sori. Thanks for the update! Calm ... down ... Alright, now that your calm. Even if Soriano reverts to his Texas numbers (will not happen), then he is still going to hit 30+ home runs and have a decent arm in center. Will Pierre have those things? No, so it is at least a pretty big upgrade over our production last year from CF.
  19. Does anyone know where this puts the payroll?
  20. Pierre- .292 .330 .388 3 HR 58 SB Soriano- .277 .351 .560 46 HR 41 SB
  21. How much money do we have left with the Soriano signing?
  22. I don't know if I should be really happy or really pissed ... ! ...
  23. Depending on who else they're asking for, I'd do that deal in a heartbeat. Would the Marlins do Pie, Marshall and Wuertz for Willis? No trading Wuertz.
