  1. Ankiel solo home run!
  2. Looper and Arroyo heading to the bottom of the 6th in a scoreless game.
  3. Wood outing. 20K games are more impressive regardless. Not only that, but most metrics say that it's the most dominant starting pitching performance in modern history. Yeah...there were 3 walks in this game...I'd be interested to see the game score though. So? Buchholz has three walks, too. Wood's game was far more impressive. There have been four 20 K games in the history of baseball. There have been 235 no-hitters.
  4. I don't know, I don't think it should come as that much of a surprise. He was a very highly touted prospect. Is it really that uncommon to see a new pitcher come up and dominate (presumably due to the lack of scouting on him)?
  5. Wild pitch, 9-2. Yadi is 'bout to come through.
  6. He has a no-hitter.
  7. Ankiel 2-run double. 7-2.
  8. Edmonds two-run double; 4-2.
  9. Would-be double play nullified by a high throw to first... 2-2!
  10. Fly out and then a line drive that was ripped, but right at Pujols. 2-1 Reds going into the bottom of the third.
  11. 2-1 Reds. Bases loaded, 1 out.
  12. Reds go ahead 1-0 on a double by David Ross. Yadi "the Body" ties it in the 2nd with a solo homer.
  13. 45 : 69 K:BB ratio on the season! That's insane!
  14. A few years ago, Larry Walker, Cliff Floyd, Pedro Martinez, Moises Alou, and Randy Johnson would have made them pretty good. And they would currently have Grady Sizemore. Also Vlad and Brandon Phillips. The more I thought about it they wouldnt be as good as I thought. Pedro would be a Dodger with these hypothetical terms. It would be kind of fun coming up with what everyone would look like. I predict the Cubs would have the worse offensive team. The Cards would not be good either. Pujlos and Duncan, but I think thats it. C - Yadi Molina 1B - Daric Barton 2B - Placido Polanco 3B - Albert Pujols SS - Jack Wilson LF - Chris Duncan CF - Coco Crisp RF - JD Drew SP - Dan Haren SP - Anthony Reyes SP - Bud Smith SP - Rick Ankiel SP - Braden Looper Those last three starting pitchers are tongue-in-cheek. My mind is honestly sapped trying to remember former Cardinal starters that are now elsewhere...
  15. I definitely feel the whole system is highly flawed. DVR has ruined what little meaning ratings ever had Not really -- if you record something on your DVR the cable company has a much more accurate read on # of households "tuning" in to a program. But isn't the point of ratings to use as leverage to ramp up advertising costs (I'm ignorant, I have no idea)? And if people that are recording games are skipping commercials, it renders that whole thing useless.
  16. Lee is having a better year (126 OPS+, versus 111 from Alfonso), but then again, he plays in Minute Maid... is it a hitter's park? No. But does it have a short left porch that caters to right-handed pull hitters? Yes. Look at his home/road splits: Home: .359 AVG / .415 OBP / .595 SLG / 1.010 OPS Road: .252 / .302 / .469 / .771 (Not to insinuate that the park explains that big of a difference) Soriano + should age well + versatile enough to play CF + intangible speed - $36 million more than Lee - 114 OPS+ out of a corner outfielder is not acceptable at his salary Lee + $36 million cheaper - his body will not age well - (arguably) benefiting from Minute Maid's short porch Interestingly, Soriano and Lee both have a career OPS+ of exactly 114; similarly, they were both bad signings. They were both way overpaid and were signed for way too long. I can honestly say I didn't want St. Louis to pursue either of them this offseason.
  17. One thing that slipped my mind was that the Cards signed Miguel Cairo to a minor league deal; he's going to be called up in September. Unfortunately, he's going probably going to be seeing some of Rolen's at-bats.
  18. I think hardcore fans would tape sporting events, but I question how many "average" ones would.
  19. I'm personally interested in seeing if they give Jarrett Hoffpauir a try. I don't know how realistic that is, but here's what he's done this year: AA - .345 / .420 / OBP / .527 SLG / .947 OPS in 61 games AAA - .303 / .387 OBP / .427 SLG / .814 OPS in 50 games I guess I'd figure that they'd give Ryan the gig at third base, and then have Miles and Hoffpauir split time at second. In any event, I don't think that Hoffpauir nor Ryan are ready to start full-time yet. I think that La Russa is going to have to do a lot of mix-and-matching with those guys. It will be curious to see when -- if at all -- Spiezio comes back; that would help ease the loss of Rolen. Now granted, as mentioned, Rolen hasn't been very good this year anyway... Oh, and the Hoffpauir thing is complete speculation on my part. I don't know how realistic him coming up is. I agree with this 100%. Cards Talk is home to the cream of the Cardinal fan crop.
  20. He shoulda slid. In reality he was out.
  21. Ankiel double, 7-0; third hit of the game.
  22. Encarnacion home run, 4-1.
  23. The vote is very even but all of the comments are lopsided towards FRBG. Interesting.
  24. My next door neighbor is good friends with someone who won a public Yahoo Fantasy Baseball league and he thinks he's only 25.
