  1. I probably wouldn't have worded it as strongly, but I essentially agree. P.S. Why on earth is TBS hosting a playoff series? Good one, MLB. Why don't any major local networks (CBS, ABC, NBC) except Fox show MLB games? The same reason TBS is hosting a playoff series. $$$
  2. Dempster. I don't put much credence in the status of closers, but I don't think I'd mess with the system at that particular point in time.
  3. IMB is really freaking out about this. That being said, I sort of agree. This isn't the time to be tempting fate.

  5. Was there really a 'cubbies suck' chant in Milwaukee a few minutes ago? I was watching the game and I'm pretty sure that's what they were chanting. If so, that's pretty hilarious. I hope they do that some more.
  6. It warms my heart that there is a game thread for this. I will be watching since we get Cardinals games here in So. Ill. Go Cardinals!!!
  7. Certainly, the game thread records have a lot to do with luck, but I think it is appropriate to reward those with the best records to do the starts. I know if I went 9-1 or whatever and some random dude who was next in line got to playoff start ahead of me I would be slightly irked. It'd be like letting Trachsel start game one of the division series because he's 'next in line'. Gotta play to win boys and gals.
  8. I prefer to save my vitriol for the actual St. Louis Cardinals rather than the fans. They have obnoxious idiots just like every other team, but in my experience they tend to have classy contingent. I'll especially never forget the little old lady I sat next to a few years ago in St. Louis it a Cubs/Cards game. Probably the first time I didn't yell obscenities at a baseball game in 10 years. She was awesome, though she did keep going on and on about how JD Drew wasn't playing because of a hangnail or a splinter. She couldn't get enough of that. I, however, did after like the 8th time. But she never said anything disparaging about my Cubs jersey. We had a gay old time.
  9. Ramirez Wood Z Lilly Pie In that order. All-time? Sandberg Mad Dog Dawson Ramirez Sammy Just off the top of my head anyway, probably in that order.
  10. And here I was thinking that believing in one god was semi-ludicrous, but to learn that some people believe in multiple 'baseball' gods? Incredible.
  11. I've been telling anyone that will listen how much Aramis reminds me of Manny when the latter was in Cleveland since he came to the Cubs, now I definitely won't shut up about it.
  12. but they're the Indians Why don't you understand it? The Yankess play in NY and the Indians play in the Cleve. Face it, these "experts" need quotes around them. my point was that Cleveland's track record in the post season is nearly as futile as the Cubs I'd say the Indians getting to the world series twice in a decade alone makes them a very different franchise from the Cubs.
  13. Well this is it ladies and gentlemen, do or die time.
  14. 1 out of 30. Reinsdorf, and even that's really just what Selig wants too, so basically 0 out of 30. So, 29 out of the 30 owners have to approve?
  15. What percentage of the owners have to approve of the sale? Unanimous?
  16. I have a question, What are the worthwhile defensive metrics worth paying attention to? I've noticed people mention that BP's calculations of defensive contribution are poor, but I've never really seen any explanation as to why. In particular, what are you looking for when analyzing one's defensive contributions?
  17. Yes. He should have been our everyday starting center fielder this year. According to me.
  18. If only our team could attempt something that passes for professional baseball this would be a non-issue.
  19. Well, for what it's worth, I didn't read most of this thread, But really? Really? How pathetic. Ankiel is a great story. If we don't make the playoffs in the worst division in baseball, the only party to blame is our own crappy baseball team. I'm embarrassed, and quite frankly, everyone here should be as well. Nothing could matter less.
  20. Jesus, what's with the weatherman posting the stats and stretching the pages making them a pain in the ass to read. Seriously, a link works. Me having to scroll sideways doesn't.
  21. Loaded question really. The Cubs are at least a half game better than the Brewers. Easily.
