  1. If you told me this now I'd call you crazy. He hit .288 with a .368 OBP in July...for him, in Center...that's acceptible in my book. With absolutely no power whatsoever beyond the six doubles. I expect more out of Jones. While it's better than what he was doing, I still don't quite consider it acceptable.
  2. I have owned the domain names for SecondCityFootball.com and SecondCityHoops.com for a long time now. But I can't find time to keep this site up to date! Maybe I should just set them up as message boards and not worry about anything else for now. Any interest out there? That would be fantastic. If you set anything up, let us know.
  3. I think Steve Stone would have some value in the organization beyond broadcasting. He can teach our young power pitchers when to throw the slider, low and away.
  4. My favorite player in the '90's, easily. Made it even better for me that everyone hated him.
  5. This is why I never listen to obese people.
  6. If you told me this now I'd call you crazy.
  7. I like the guy and all, but I just want C. Cliff Floyd to break something so a certain adorable redhead would get the PA's he deserves.
  8. I was under the impression that it was intentionally bad.
  9. Joe Carter disagrees.
  10. I tend to think of it this way: outs are incredibly precious. At the end of every game, each team eventually ends up creating 27, however, it is generally the team that takes the longest to do it who wins. Having a high slugging can be meaningless if you don't have a high enough OBP with which to maximize the amount of opportunities you can use to utilize your slugging ability. I could be way off though.
  11. That was exactly the point that I was going to make, but you beat me to it. The single greatest obstacle to fair competition when it concerns the MLB is the fact that they are a sanctioned monopoly. In theory it is in place to protect the integrity of the game and insure it's viability. In reality it probably hurts a lot of small market teams much in the way that revenue sharing does, in that bad owners aren't held accountable for their poor stewardship while at the same time able to still pull in a profit. I say we introduce major league baseball to the invisible hand and let it pimp-slap some of these terrible ownership groups into either running the team in a responsible manner or forcing them to sell to someone who will.
  12. Lucky for us, so is Chris Capuano
  13. We have one of the best pitching staffs in the league. Our offense is what's lacking. Edit: and I agree, this poll is way too limiting. We shouldn't have made a trade just to make a trade. But if the right deal was available and we didn't pull the trigger, well, that speaks for itself.
  14. The Indians need to worry more about getting RBI's in baseball than playing RBI baseball. Edit: and Josh Barfield sucks.
  15. Looks like their proofreader was asleep on the job. :D I noticed that too. It's like the quote I read somewhere: "There are three types of baseball fans: Those that understand statistics and those who don't."
  16. mesa's gotta get it somewhere near the plate for that to happen
  17. Mets don't get anything done in the 4th, still ahead 7-5
  18. there's pictures of the schoolbus about a foot away from the edge of the collapsed bridge on msnbc.com
  19. I really am rooting for him. Especially since we need him.
  20. I'm guessing he meant passing on Wieters' in the draft because they didn't want to pay his bonus demands yet going out and getting Matt Morris who sucks and is expensive. Or something like that.
