  1. IIRC, it was Barrett to the A's from Montreal, then Barrett to the Cubs from the A's. That might be why you think of it as two trades when it was just one trade from the Cubs perspective.
  2. I generally agree/hope that the Hamburgler will be able to pull off a decent trade for an power hitter. Hendry is pretty deft at making moves.
  3. Yeah, aside from landing Thome and gambling on Dye, I really don't see how he's ever truly improved that team in any way shape or form. By my lazy armchair non-calculation, he's probably made the team worse.
  4. As I've said before, I'd prefer to leave Dunn in Cincinnati this year. The only other apparent suitor is the Nationals, and that's just because Bowden has man-love for the Dunner, though, you can't really argue that he wouldn't improve that team. Griffey this year and Dunn next when Griff goes down. No reason to sell the farm to get Dunn this year and not be able to resign him in the offseason because of the ownership change.
  5. Dunn K's way too much? Awesome. He's gotten on base 37% of the time this year.
  6. Win or lose, I think it's pretty sweet that Vance got the opportunity to do this. He's pretty much the definition of 'die-hard'.
  7. Attempting to temper my excitement, but it's pretty difficult. As NC said, tonight's outing is of great importance. Hopefully the news out of Peoria tomorrow is of the 'good' variety.
  8. Perhaps he's never been a very good GM in the first place and managed to extend his career because he caught lightning in a bottle in 2005? Ding Ding Ding
  9. Consider me sour on the chances of us obtaining Dye. Hopefully the hamburgler realizes that we need a bat who will perform, not a bat who maybe can perform because he has done so occasionally in the past.
  10. I think Griffey is much more likely than Dunn. Dunn is way under appreciated by other clubs and somewhat over appreciated by his own club. Griffey, on the other hand, hasn't seen his value this high since the glory days of the turn of the century. Krivsky would be an absolute moron to not deal him this summer. The caveat being that he is already a complete idiot, which is only one non-trade away from being an absolute moron.
  11. Appears risky to me. .278/.327/.454 with an OPS+ of 100 the rest of the way doesn't seem anywhere close to a lock. He's done worse in 3 of the last 4 years and 6 of his 9 seasons. also, two home runs to this point in the season isn't encouraging. Yeah, it's not like this hot streak has come with a burst of power. I've seen several weak hit balls just find holes. He'd have to really up the pace of HR in order to flirt with his career numbers. I guess I hadn't considered the complete lack of power on his part during this hot streak. Hopefully, for his and the team's sake, he starts to hit the ball a little/lot harder. I was thinking that he would continue in the hitting and OBP categories without much consideration for the SLG. My fault. On a tangent, I just don't understand the overall power outtage by the Cubs this year, Ramirez and to a lesser extent Soriano aside. Lee is way down, Jones is down, Barrett was down. When that's coupled with the fact that we have a light-hitting middle infield and almost no power from our other outfield spot, I'm surprised that we've scored as many runs as we have.
  12. He'll regress from this hot streak, as the BABIP shows, but putting up his career averages from here on out doesn't appear to be a risky prediction.
  13. Yeah, DJ is definitely a PBP guy. Evidenced by the fact that he calls play-by-play. Plus, they're bad, but definitely not the worst.
  14. sarcasm? i don't see anything significant about his career? sorry if I just didn't get it... I didn't necessarily mean to assert that he was HOF-worthy at the time of his banishment, just that he could have finished as a borderline case had be been able to play and stay healthy. Joe Jackson has a better case, but still probably doesn't qualify considering the numbers as they stand. Edit: And Weaver wasn't a dirty cheater.
  15. I wonder what kind of career Buck Weaver would have finished with had he not been banned along with the other Black Sox.
  16. Aww man, I always kind of hoped that they would just throw Stone in there in addition to Len and Bob, to spice it up. If Bob leaves there's no way we don't bring Stone back, but I'm not to sure he would leave.
  17. A gambler, a sellout, and a cheater? Seems like a winner to me. Uhh, you do realize that nearly everyone was throwing a spitball in those days right? It was not only perfectly legal, it was widely accepted.
  18. I dunno guys, I think it was pretty obvious that Jones was going to heat up at some point. He's a decent ballplayer. I've been saying this for a while now, am I lucky or a genius?
  19. Rose should definitely be in the hall, as should Joe Jackson, regardless of what he did during that WS. It was a different time then, and it is pretty sad to cast aspersions upon a player for opting towards a financial incentive at that point in time considering the days we live in now.
  20. I just don't see Lilly as the one we'd want to trade. This team has enough cash for Zambrano. Hopefully.
  21. At least a puff piece on the Ot's is better than a 'cubs will never win a world series ever' piece.
  22. Dunn or Griffey. Dunn or Griffey. I really can't decide. Griff we'd have for another year or two, and I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I think the proper strategy for Dunn is to just wait until the offseason and see if you can't work out a trade then so his clause doesn't kick in, then attempt to resign him before he hits the market. I could live with eating Griff's contract for a few years while not playing if he can contribute this year for the run. Edit: It's obviously one or the other. If it comes down to getting one this season, I say Griffey, but for the long term, Dunn is the man.
  23. Aside from the occasional rib towards the Cubs, I think Joe Buck does a pretty good job. He's no Jack, but he's at least mildly entertaining, especially when the Cardinals aren't playing the Cubs so the only obvious target for his subtle insults are the Cardinals themselves.
  24. Ever notice I wasn't even talking about Murton, my argument is about Theriot because he should be the starting SS, not cedeno. Yes, you brought in theriot to prove how worthless cedeno is, but you started it by mentioning how there's a perfectly good RF wasting away in Iowa. :D There is, and I dont' think Matt is the greatest thing ever but come on, he is most definetely an upgrade over Floyd, however with DeRo's injury I think we need Cedeno hear, as a backup. I don't know why everyone thinks Cedeno is the second coming of Honus Wagner. So we have you being bothered that your point is being misrepresented, and then you go and misrepresent what people here have said. Incredible.
  25. Poor Adam Dunn gets to waste away in Cincinnati for yet another season. We'll see what happens if the Cubs are in contention next year and if they need a good LH bat from the outfield. That situation becomes even more interesting if Jockety is the GM there next season.
