  1. I think this is right. It’s not about money, it’s that they don’t want to be on the coach carousel every 2-3 years. Oh, Eberflus. On the one hand, he’s one of the worst in-game coaches I’ve ever seen. Important 4th down calls, challenges, time outs and clock management…egregiously bad. His whole gimmick when he wins the coin toss and decides to accept the ball rather than defer? Strictly a negative call, will always cost you points in the long run. These factors alone should be disqualifying. He shouldn’t be the head coach of the chicago bears. The silver lining is that he’s a very good defensive coordinator and his players seem to really like him and play hard for him. So there’s some consolation if he is thrust on us another season. The roster is trending up, and I expect it will only improve next year. This team should compete for a playoff spot next year, even with a rookie QB. But Eberflus will lose you a couple games every year you should win. That’s inexcusable for me, but I’m not the one making decisions.
  2. I doubt there’s any real chance for the Bears to make the playoff but it would be nice for them to feel like they have something to play for in the last week other than The Packers, which I don’t think the players typically really care about that much (nor should they, it’s a fan thing)
  3. They actually reviewed for 12 men on the field in the OSU-Mizzou game last night too (obviously college rules are totally different than pro rules)
  4. This won't be solved until late April so I recommend folks strap in or tune it out. The content creators and radio folks must be stocked to have so much content to mine until then.
  5. What he's doing is wild and absolutely the most captivating story of the year. And it's all the more interesting that if he takes them to a Super Bowl, he's probably cementing his own ticket to the Hall of Fame as well - I'm definitely rooting for them. What a cool story.
  6. IMO, There’s a world of difference between 5’10” and 6’1” in the NFL, and it’s much more significant than the jump from 6’1” to 6’4” is for someone like Fields. (We’ll find out what Williams’s actual height is at the Combine of course), Being that short as an NFL QB is close to disqualifying if you aren’t an otherworldly talent like Brees. I’m not 100% completely amazingly blown away by Caleb Williams, but it does feel like people are going out of their way to look for reasons to not draft him. He’s a better prospect than Fields was in 2021 and we were over the moon to have him.
  7. 1. Devin Hester belongs in the Hall of Fame 2. I have completely excised the memory of Jared Allen ever being on the Bears.
  8. The only thing that would outright surprise me is if they run the whole squad back: Fields, Flus and Getsy. I think Eberflus has likely saved his job (which I have major mixed feelings about), but I think it’s more likely than not that Fields is traded and more likely than not Getsy is gone.
  9. I like this OLine if we get a Center honestly. I wouldn’t be upset if we ran into 2024 with Braxton Jones starting, though I think we absolutely could upgrade from there. in my dreams we draft a C a top OT and pick up another guard or tackle in free agency. I don’t think any rookie will get crushed behind this OLine, they’ve played pretty damn well from mid season on. What’s the problem?
  10. Why wouldn’t I want Fields But Better In All The Ways He’s Weak? Sounds can’t miss to me
  11. The persistence in continuing to go after QBs and not being gunshy until you find the guy that plays well for you (whether it’s because the system works well, or they’re a good fit or whatever) is also well taken. They weren’t afraid to cut bait and not just settle on a guy who was maybe OK but not stellar for them.
  12. The amount of disrespect Brock Purdy has received around the country is wild. Dude is having, even after factoring his disastrous MNF game, at worst the 2nd best season of QBs this year. People penalize him for playing on the best team in the league. Ok. Go watch some tape of him. Imagine Tyson Bagent making the throws he makes - particularly the 20+ in the air throws, which he's had more success in doing than anyone else in the league.
  13. Why do we go back to Marino? Roethlisberger went to an AFC Championship as a rookie and won as a 2nd year player. Just looking at who's around the league - Dak Prescott, Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert and notably, CJ Stroud all had incredibly good rookie seasons that led their teams to be competitive. Stroud specifically has a worse roster around him than what a Bears rookie would. It wouldn't be ideal but it doesn't mean the team won't be playoff competitive by default.
  14. If “Franchise QB” is defined as “(typically white) guy who stands still and throws a lot” then yeah… but I don’t define it that way? I define it as “cornerstone effective player I don’t mind giving a contract that’s worth >20 mill a year for”. So Lamar Jackson is absolutely a franchise QB. Tua and Hurts are knocking on the door of it. Brock Purdy hasn’t shown enough to say yes or no but he’s having a season currently that’s better than any Bears QB in history. all the guys mentioned, aside from the Browns QB situation, are significantly better than Justin Fields.
  15. Bears fans (and executives for that matter) cannot live in fear that they end up looking stupid if they make the move with the highest chance of success and it ends up going the wrong way for them. This happens. It’s inevitable and unavoidable. Making moves to avoid looking stupid is the same principle that leads to coaches coaching games not to lose, etc. it’s very possible the Bears trade Fields and he has success elsewhere and the QB they pick bust. It’s possible Fields succeeds and the new Bears QB succeeds. It’s possible, in a scenario a lot of people don’t even consider, that Fields sucks in a new spot AND the new Bears QB sucks. You make the move that makes the most sense to have long term superbowl competitiveness. And wherever Fields goes, barring him landing in the NFC North, I’ll be rooting for him, because he’s a good dude.
  16. triple post somehow lol
  17. On the one hand, it would be nice to finish the season respectably, finish 8-9 and beat the packers. On the other hand, I bet the Bears would keep Eberflus another year if they do that. so, tough call
  18. I truly had no idea Emery and Pace were in Atlanta. Well, good luck to Falcons fans hoping they find a good QB anytime.
  19. That’s exactly the type of team that will put 35 up on the Bears and blow us out next week
  20. Fields's passer rating (and yes, passer rating is a junk stat) is now lower than his last years. His QBR (which factors in running and sacks) is 15 points lower than last season. Now - going by the eye test, I think he's playing significantly better than he did last season. But it's simply not good enough, for me, to sign him long term and pass on a top prospect at QB. Anecdotally, he also seems helpless when neither Kmet and Moore are on the field. Now, he's got a bunch of schlubs to throw to beyond them, but the vast majority of starting quality QBs can at least do something with schlub WRs. Fields hasn't shown that. It sucks because he's a good guy and he's still improving, but the circumstances are what they are. You got the 1st overall, you got a guy you have to make a decision on in the next few months. It's tragic, and there is of course the possibility it blows up in your face. There's no option where that isn't a possibility.
  21. Of course, it really seems like the average Chicago Bear fan emphatically wants to stick with Fields - we're outliers here. Look at this poll of 25,000 people (now I'm sure a good chunk are out of Chicago, but I'm also sure a ton are from Chicago fans given its the Chicago account): Polls from Chicago football reporters asking similar questions on twitter return very similar results. Will that sway Poles? I sure hope the front office doesn't consider this stuff when they're making football decisions, no matter what direction they go in. But it probably factors in somewhat.
  22. Getting a haul for the 1st overall pick is definitely a tempting proposition, and I would want my GM to make that the most desirable option IF and ONLY IF you felt absolutely secure in your QB. Unfortunately, we aren’t there. If you trade that 1st overall and you’re looking to draft a QB anyway, you’re accepting the fact you’re getting an inferior QB prospect. Now drafting QB is always a bit of a crapshoot - the 2023 draft being a prime example of that - but I don’t think you want to handicap yourself by limiting your options at who you draft. Now…you may think you’ve outsmarted the other 31 teams in the league and think you can steal a prospect who is undervalued by the rest of the league. Do I trust the Bears front office to have outsmarted the rest of the league in evaluating QB prospects? lol.
  23. I don't think running back, tight end, corner back or linebacker are big needs at all. I mean - if there's some amazing dude on the board, go ahead and get him. But those positions are not as much a need as say, Offensive Tackle, in my mind. And honestly, I don't think HB or LB should ever be a need. Just get some guys. Those positions are firmly in "some guys" zone in the modern NFL.
  24. I don't think the eye test or the stats show that Fields is a terrible QB, but an argument can be made that he's anywhere between Bad, Below Average, Average or slightly Above Average. And my opinion of that wavers with each game, lol. I expect any bridge QB would most likely be Bad. We can look around the league and see that... it's exceptionally hard to find even competent play from scrapheap quarterbacks. And I imagine that such a QB would cost as much or more than Fields would on his rookie contract in year 4. But you have to balance that with what you think you can get for him in a trade. A 2nd or higher? I probably take it. A 3rd or less? I don't know if it's worth it. I wouldn't keep Fields for any teaching reason for a new QB, but simply as an evaluation of what the heck's out there. And on top of that - we're almost certainly going to have a new head coach and a new offensive system, and I don't hate the idea of the rookie getting a year in that system before starting. I'm ambivalent on whether or not I'd start the rookie right away. With Fields I was all in on letting him start over Dalton. I'm less confident if thats the right approach or not these days, though its far more common in the NFL today.
