I don't want to speak for him but I think the premise is that Fields is so bad he's below replacement level and the Bears would be better off with virtually anyone else in the league. I don't agree with that, but so it goes.

The Brock Purdy story is pretty cool I think. I guess people are tired of the 49ers but I don't feel any particularly way about them. I feel like each time someone disrespects Brock Purdy's talent to grouse about how good his surrounding cast is, it powers him up to throw more miraculous-off-the-DBs-facemask catches to one of his receivers. So, I fully expect him to play well enough to win, and for everyone to disparage him and dismiss him when he's Super Bowl MVP.

That logic also applies to any potential trade partners: if there’s lots of interchangeable talent between 10-20, then what’s the motivation for other teams to offer much to move up in that area?

Unless the return on 9 is overwhelming, I'm not sure I'm looking to trade it. No matter who's gone by the time the clock goes back to Chicago, there's special talent available. And I think this team does need a bit of special talent on the roster. If all goes according to plan you get Caleb Williams at 1 and you get another difference maker at 9. I'm typically team "accumulate as many assets as possible" - and I can see a path for that. But I also want a real ass-kicker WR, TE, Dlineman or a stud Olineman if there's one available there.

Absolutely devastating loss there for the Lions. Campbell’s 4th down tries while in Field Goal range should be scrutinized, though they’re true to his form and the way he coaches. You live by the big balls, you die by the big balls. time will tell if this does lasting harm to the team or if they’re built for long term success. For the Bears sake, I hope it does lasting damage.

I am pleased the Bears hired an Offensive Coordinator who has worked as an OC and has had success, particularly when the QB position hasn’t been ideal. now let’s see what he can do with Caleb Williams

Well, I thought the line of Ravens -9 or -9.5 was ridiculous but clearly the Vegas people get football better than I do. which bodes well for us Bears fans in that Green Bay - Sam Fran game (SF are 9.5 favorites)

It’s too bad Minnesota is in the division because I think that also wouldn’t be a bad spot for Fields. (Need a QB, not high enough in the draft to get a guy who is immediately ready to go, etc) The chances the Bears retain Fields as draft a qb go up… I’d probably do it if I can’t get at least a high 3rd for Fields.

I consider Fields equal to or better than Winston, Mariota, Wentz, Garoppolo, Browning, Minshew and has more upside than the old broken guys. I think there'll be some takers. But I wouldn't be shocked if the Bears have to settle for a 3rd rounder.

Sure, although you look at KC and can see how lacking weapons matters. Nothing wrong with making the security blanket as nice and as comfortable as possible for the rookie.

I wouldn't mind upgrading at the RB position - though I'm not sure I would shell out for any RB over the age of 25. It's brutal what's happened to that position but aside from a few freaks of nature... you really don't want to spend money on a guy who's in his late 20s. It's a huge shame but it is what it is. (What Aaron Jones is doing is nuts, good for him) But I'm out on Herbert. I never loved the way he runs, he's not a guy you can really count on to gut out short yardage, and on top of that he's not an amazing receiver. I liked what I saw from Foreman in the short period of time when he played, what happened with him down the stretch? Was he a healthy scratch? Injury? I never got info on that. Roschon has been ok - some promising bursts, some blah. I'd definitely be ok with a guy who's a great blocker and pass catcher out of the backfield. I'm just pretty sure you can find that in like, the 5th round, lol.

I wouldn't say the Bears are desperate for a TE. Their #1 guy is playing pretty well and is pretty young and locked up - it would be nice to have a second guy, for sure, but I would place that as a moderate need well below WR, Inside OL and Tackle. "Weapons" in general is what they need. WRs that can run routes and catch balls and maybe even have some special talent.

If you can get Crosby for a steal, I'd be interested, but otherwise, I agree with Kyle - put those resources to building that offense around your new QB. The defense may fall short of being elite, but thats fine. Defenses in the modern NFL are about as reliable year-in-year-out as bullpen arms. You never know what you're gonna get and they may just collapse on you at any moment. The more consistent thing is your offense. Build a competent offense. Make that a mantra in Halas Hall. Build a competent offense.

Packers wont win the Super Bowl but a run in the playoffs isn't unheard of. That line seems enormous given how well the Packers have played down the stretch and I think I'm gonna put a little money on them to at least cover. I wouldn't be shocked if they meet the Lions in the NFC Championship game.

It’s not about money with eberflus. I don’t think they care that much about a piddly few million. What they care about is stability and controversy (avoiding it that is) I’m gonna guess that’s why Harbaugh wasn’t a likely choice, and why someone like Lovie Smith was a PERFECT McCaskey coach.

So what, who cares People keep saying that as if it's been the same organization all those years. It's been dozens of different GMs and front offices. We don't even have our offensive staff yet (god willing that gets sorted out soon) I mean, maybe you can believe there's some sort of metaphysical force keeping the Bears from developing a QB. I don't believe that. If I did, I probably would just give up being a Bears fan. I hardly believe Caleb Williams cares that the Bears fucked up the QB position in 1987 or whatever, or that they failed to develop Rex Grossman or failed to see the promise in Kyle Orton. I would guess the history with Justin Fields bears some weight. Who they sign as OC and QB coordinator would matter quite a bit more than anything else. And one also has to factor in the positive possibility that if Williams is even half-way decent he wins Chicago's loyalty for the rest of his life.

I don't love drafting another Tall White Guy From North Carolina, but thats about it when it comes down to comparing Trubisky and Maye. Haven't watched as much film on his as I have Caleb, but he's a very very good prospect.

if you're not picking the Packers in almost every match up (no matter the odds), you haven't internalized what it is to be a Bears fan. (I've made a good amount of money doing this)

It's extremely inconvenient and annoying how hard it is to watch NFL games these days. I wish you could just pay NFL a flat fee to have access to every game, but so it goes, thats not the way of capitalism. Anyway, I either pirate the games I want or I go to a bar.

Stroud’s unbelievable. Subjectively, this is the best rookie season by a QB I’ve ever seen. I’ll never be mad they passed up on using the 2023 pick on a QB because, lol, they would have gotten Young, but Stroud is looking insane.

It's possible, I just doubt it. We have nothing on the story other than a bunch clout chasers inventing stories. I don't think Caleb Williams looks at Chicago, Washington, New England sans Belichick, or Arizona and is like oh yeah, I definitely don't want to go to Chicago and would rather go to those places.

I don't believe any of this stuff and Chicago is also the best team for him to realistically go to in the short term so I think it would be really bizarre if he refused to come here. The whole narrative speaks to an audience primed to think "oh well the Bears ruin QBs and we expect it" - but not to realities on the ground.

I think Justin can be a very good QB if you give him an elite Oline that gives him 10 seconds a play to throw, and an elite WR corps. But I also think...that applies to most pro level QBs, so it's not a really useful insight.
