  1. You obviously haven't read too many game threads this year. My favorite: the "BE HURT THERIOT" comment(s). To be fair, we aren't complaining about his play to date this season. We are complaining about the likely level of play the rest of the season. Wow-complaining about play that hasn't even happened yet. That's an effective strategy. Its something a GM has to do every day on his job. Even Neifi has had stretches where he walloped the ball. I I know everyone's a wannabe GM, but last time I checked, no one on this board was getting paid by the Chicago Cubs to make personnel decisions. Fans in general need to understand their roles a little better-it will do everyone a lot of good. Whatever, we shouldn't talk about anyones play at all then, since none of us is in any position to make any decision. I'm saying making decisions based on play that hasn't happened yet is something that commonly happens and should be encouraged. Otherwise we are just picking players at random and upgrading them to MLB. Wow, did you miss the point. This has nothing to do with commenting on people's current play...it has to do with commenting on their alleged future play. Let me break it down: 1. Theriot is playing. 2. He has been playing well. 3. Regardless of our predictions, the Cubs will either (a.) choose for him to return to the bench or (b.) continue to play SS 4. None of us have any bearing on that decision. 5. If he continues playing at the level he is playing, the Cubs will be successful. 6. If he doesn't, it isn't very likely that Piniella will switch him out anyway, and the Cubs will be worse off for it. 7. Rooting for him to fail is essentially rooting for the team to fail, because his presence in the lineup isn't likely to change. blah blah blah i'll just repost what i said to the other guy Except they were looking at past numbers consistently when evaluating Cedeno. Theriot has never done anything to show that he can be an everyday better-than-replacement-level short stop. And if he is, then he is, its not like we have that many options. Most teams (other than the Yankees and Red Sox) have subpar position players, its part of the game. Probably most of the reason Theriot draws reactionary comments on this site is because lazy Cubs fans that don't pay attention to the team think he's our Eckstein, awesome-scrappy-dappy-do saviour that can do no wrong. The people that look at the numbers know theres more to the story. 3. Less-than-half season? Check his 2005. i drew my own conclusion that the Cedeno hate occurred in 2006. stop me if i'm mischaracterizing. 2005 - LOVE HIM 2006 - severe irrational cedeno hate 2007 - severe irrational cedeno hate continues...wallops the ball in the PCL...LOVE HIM no, upon further thought i dont see anything reactionary about that Except they were looking at past numbers consistently when evaluating Cedeno. 5. WHY IS THIS SUCH A BIG DEAL The wishing for Theriot to be injured stuff was mostly tongue-in-cheek, are you guys so sensitive that it pierces your soul whenever someone talks about him? Its just like the DeRosa hitting into DP thing, we all know he wont most of the time its just a thing we joke about, jesus guys you're taking the fun out of watching baseball

  7. You obviously haven't read too many game threads this year. My favorite: the "BE HURT THERIOT" comment(s). :-s I mean whatever people want to give Cedeno a bit of a chance too The hysterical hate for Cedeno was a lot louder than this
  8. you're kidding me. it isn't? thats what he's been thus far this season. yet the despisal of him on here is so intense that we've still got non-stop complaining about his inclusion in the lineup. i really can't relate to the loathing of a player on your team who has produced well for you thus far and given full effort. if he's back to a .672 ops again soon then the complaints may become more valid. and a .364 slg. all hail the savior. How much complaining has there been of his play this year? I mean you are basing things off of a 2 week sample size of games, which is a bit ridiculous considering the wealth of information we can draw about his past play. EDIT: BTW I'm not against riding him out there every day, until he either hits a dry patch or not, but I still don't think he should lead off or bat 2nd. Fukudome should be in the mix there.
  9. he shouldn't even be given a chance to keep it up god i hate his white ass so badly if i see him start another game for this team i am going to start bleeding out of my eye sockets Yeah we should jsut let him start at SS every year until he retires while he puts up sparkling .326 OBP's and fails to get his SLG over .400 in his career. Or, alternatively, we could get a hitter above replacement level.
  10. I really really hate that guy and I hope he gets thrown out really soon
  11. Marquis getting the pitcher out is really encouraging He seems to have a handy problem of giving up doubles to them
  12. Bob Brenly's favorite comedian is my favorite comedian
  13. Fukudome might have struck out but he also took 4 or 5 more pitches to do that then compared with Aramis Look at him and try to do the same thing, Ramirez
  14. Aramis has put together waaaaay too many 3 pitch strike outs this season.
  15. Just don't even throw a strike to him, really guys it does more harm then good
  16. well there you go you whiners, Matt Murton is YES DERREK LEE
  17. If it Theriot at bat, Bautista would have double clutched and thrown the ball into the stands.
  18. You can make an argument with the bat though In a vaccuum, yes. However, moving DeRosa to 2B would make some amount of sense and still provide an upgrade over Theriot or Cedeno. Agreed. It should be DeRo at 2b, Cedeno at SS and someone else (Probably Murton) in LF. Theriot should be riding pine
  19. DeRosa has 3 HRs aleady, and what about Ramirez, Lee, and Soto??? Its just a feeling from looking at the outfield, not necessarily true.
  20. You can make an argument with the bat though
  21. With an outfield of Reed Johnson, Mark Derosa and Fukudome I feel like this lineup has absolutely no power
