And if the Brewers end up losing both Sheets, and potentially CC, then they take a step backwards in development. Not only do they lose a couple of top of the line pitchers, but TOP prospects, and now they would either have to sign a pitcher, or use the picks on pitchers. Which means they would have a rotation that has a rehabbing Yovani/Suppan/Marra/Bush, etc. Not a rotation that can win a wild card, much less a rotation. So, if I am Milwaukee I better be dang sure, I could re-sign CC, if I was going to give up LaPorta plus, for a not-so-guarantee playoff push. And considering who could be available (to me the best available after Sheets and CC---no contractual options--- would be Pedro/Pettite//Garland/Dempster/Lowe and Oliver Perez) this would be a HUGE gamble on Milwaukee's part. In other words, Milwaukee would have to be guarantee two things: 1: A playoff spot. 2: A re-signed CC Sabathia. And seeing as neither is guarantee right now, it would be a huge gamble. Baseball, more than any other sport, encourages the ill-conceived blockbuster trade. Lets hope, if this does get finalized, it ends up biting the Brewers in the butt. Lets also keep in mind that its been 20 odd years since the Brewers have been in the playoffs, and after their mega-collapse there has to be some pressure for them to take some chances
