  1. Same. Dude sucks but also will probably improve the team. It’s not a terrible move baseball wise.
  2. I’m sure this is confirmation bias but I feel like this team is somehow more frustrating than some of the losing teams we’ve had recently
  3. at least joe goes with the right move with carl here good chance to keep the game tied but the cubs are almost completely incapable of scoring so
  4. i'm not sure the stats prove you wrong, the team as a whole over the last 30 days has a wOBA+ of 89 and is 15 runs worse than replacement offensively. (More recently its worse, cratering in the last two weeks with a 67 wOBA+ and a .226/.288/.341 line collectively) The team is playing really, really badly lately. They've really gotten lucky with the schedule and some sequencing to just tread water. They have to play better or they're going to collapse.
  5. quintana is relishing the thought of blowing it right now
  6. Well this is all profoundly unlucky
  7. Both these teams look awful. I’m pretty sure if the Cubs scratch one more across they’re at like 98% to win the game
  8. Yeah but this is standard for a new kid coming up. It’s a game of adjustments. We have seen that Bote has a good approach and hits the ball hard. If he can make the adjustments he will be more than fine. If he doesn’t, he will be like the hundreds of other kids that come up with a good bat and don’t pan out. You’re right. The true test of a major league quality hitter is if they can readjust to the pitchers first adjustment to them. Then it’s an arms race for the rest of your career.
  9. Remember when the worst thing we had to put up with was watch Jason Hammel stumble his way to a 3.3 ERA and remain above average as a starter? Ok Taillon looks like trash, can we please somehow muster more than one run?
  10. I just went to check the score and I was mad that it seemed like the mlb app was refusing to update from yesterday lol
  11. Good lord this has been a rough year for injuries
  12. Rizzo is such a delight
  13. Really nice win. Good to see Lester with a nice outing
  14. His 2016 at age 22 seemed to really presage something special, he hit 21 dongers in 598 plate apperaances. It wasn't a tremendous offensive year, he still OPS+ under 100, but that kind of possible power with elite defense at shortstop at age 22.....thats something. Now its nearly 800 plate appearances later and he's only accumulated 17 further homers. Ho hum.
  15. My completely anecdotal and unscientific senses say this team has been shutout more times this season than the last 3 seasons combined
  16. I think the Brewers have hit more homers today than the Cubs have this whole month
  17. Unfortunately momentum is your next day’s starting pitcher we dont have those
  18. The teams played pretty mediocre-to-bad since the All-Star break, we can all acknowledge that. They are in real danger of not winning their division (though pretty much a lock for the playoffs, though wildcard is significantly worse than winning the division) There's really not much more to say. You just gotta hope the injured players come back strong, that some players that have been bad get good, and that Maddon is able to keep the leaky ship together for another 40ish games
